I got to see this in person - it was spectacular! My vantage point was from the Pest side, up river a bit - they did the light show on the hillside of Buda there.

I found the best place near to "Batthyány tér H" metro stop, where it is facing the Parliament building and Danube River. There are nice sound and light shows projected on the Budapest Parliament Building.

@@Femmink we don't do this kind of state event on New Year's. Simply too expensive to make twice a year. On New Year's Day, only citizens' fireworks can be seen in Budapest.

Locals do celebrate new year eve with fireworks. But, as I know, there is no such official grand fireworks done in Budapest on New Year's eve.
