With how large the area of sky is that these things take up, there are probably hundreds of millions of galaxies behind them, so there are probably at least a few hundred million active supernovae going on in every image, if not billions. 0:53 reminds me back in the day when I was at local bonfire night show. One of the locals in the area had been killed on duty in Afghanistan close to the date and his family (and most of the village) paid for a 21 gun salute in the form of 21 massive mortars being shot off in succession just like that. There were bigger fireworks that night but that's the one I remember most. Made me decide I want a massive firework in my name if I clock it early.
