Nothing like the sound of a high idling Detroit 2 cycle.

Looking forward to the day when she gets to go for a nice run outside of the yard. 😀

"Sept 29/2010 antifreeze -40c" I know the guy that wrote that on there. I miss riding 6133 and her sisters (6135 & 6148) out here on the island. Glad to see someone who cares taking good care of here again.

We wont let you Island guys down …. We will take good care of her ….. 6135 is sitting two cars from her again … but she is cold …. Its in long term storage unitl Via Rail decides whay they want to do with her …. As for 6133 … Still need to test the A/C system next spring and until then we have to replace the B end Bulkhead and complete washroom from the water damage that occoured in the past ….. Still a lot to do ... but we are getting there

Any idea on 6148? I know at one point she was on the Sudbury White River run. Glad that 6135 is still around. I know that 6133 is more desirable from a preservation point of view due to her still being Detroit powered, but the other two cars, having been rebuilt with Cummins engines, were in great shape and had lots of life left in them...

A gallon per hour isn't bad. They would sometimes idle these cars around the clock in bitter cold climates in the U.S. when fuel was dirt cheap.

I can never understand why you let passengers in through the cab.

Nice job! Will this be moved to a location for revenue generation at some point?

I know an island with a barely used railway that has excellent scenery for excursions...

Great news! Thanks for all of the hard work, allowing us who missed the golden era to see these machines. Is that the plan for the LRC too?

Didnt these have some kind of electrical system to enhance shorting the rails...they needed this system because the car wouldnt short the rails reliably for crossings and ctc.

They have shunting shoes … like small brake shoes but are all cast . They are on top of the wheels held by torsion springs and an electrical shunt

@@tieplatecaf thanks for the info. If you ever find out that there is some kind of electronic system to amplify the amount of shorted current flowing through this shunting shoe system let me know. I read something way back and it might be the shoe system that was described or it might be something else. I'm not sure. But I do remember riding a bud train on the Harlem Valley Line from Brewster to Pawling, and the engineer would have to slow down near Crossings because they would not trigger as quickly as necessary. It was cool because there were very few passengers and the engineer would keep the cab door wide open and talk to us about various experiences. He'd show us how the brakes would operate and told us how messy it was if he hit a deer. However when they ran an F9 pair at rush hour there were no slow downs.

My son loves trains 🚆🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🛤 especially railcars like those he thinks they are highly underrated and should be restored, preserved, and put back into service. He also thinks that Siemens, Progress Rail, or any other company that builds railroad equipment should build clones of RDC's and put them work on lines that don't get rail service anymore carrying both passengers and mail.
