Born as Siddhārtha Gautama, Buddha is regarded as the founder of Buddhism, and revered by most as a savior or the Enlightened One who rediscovered an ancient path to escape the cycle of birth and rebirth and attain Nirvana. He was born in northern India near the town of Kapilavastu to a ruler of the Indian tribe of Shakyas. His mother died seven days after giving birth to him. It is said that twelve years before his birth the brahmins prophesied that he would become either a universal monarch or a great sage. To prevent him from becoming an ascetic, his father kept him within the confines of the palace. Gautama grew up in princely luxury, shielded from the outside world, entertained by dancing girls, instructed by brahmins, and trained in archery, swordsmanship, wrestling, swimming, and running. When he came of age he married Gopa, who gave birth to a son. He had everything, and yet, it was not enough. Once in the streets of Kapilavastu, he encountered three simple things: a sick man, an old man, and a corpse being carried to the burning grounds. Nothing in his life of ease had prepared him for this experience. When his charioteer told him that all beings are subject to sickness, old age, and death, he could not rest.
As he returned to the palace, he passed a wandering ascetic walking peacefully along the road, wearing the robe and carrying the single bowl of a sadhu. He then resolved to leave the palace in search of the answer to the problem of suffering. After bidding his wife and child a silent farewell without waking them, he rode to the edge of the forest. There, he cut his long hair with his sword and exchanged his fine clothes for the simple robes of an ascetic.
For six years Siddhartha along with five companions practiced austerities and concentration. He drove himself mercilessly, eating only a single grain of rice a day, pitting mind against body. His ribs stuck through his wasted flesh and he seemed more dead than alive.
He sat, having listened to all the teachers, studied all the sacred texts and tried all the methods. Now there was nothing to rely on, no one to turn to, nowhere to go. He sat solid and unmoving and determined as a mountain, until finally, after six days, his eye opened on the rising morning star, so it is said, and he had his realization and found what he was looking for. Therefore there was nothing to attain, and no longer any struggle to attain it.
For the next forty-nine years Buddha walked through the villages and towns of India, speaking in the vernacular, using common figures of speech that everyone could understand. He taught a villager to practice mindfulness while drawing water from a well, and when a distraught mother asked him to heal the dead child she carried in her arms, he did not perform a miracle, but instead instructed her to bring him a mustard seed from a house where no one had ever died. She returned from her search without the seed, but with the knowledge that death is universal.

@@yoongs3878 Look up “Dasaratha Jataka” in the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism. It details Buddha’s life as Prince Ram. To be fair, Buddha denied being Krishna. I was raised Buddhist but my current beliefs seem to align more with Hinduism so I’m doing the comparisons between the two. In Theravada Buddhism, Buddha is documented as being Ram in a past life yet he denied being Krishna. I don’t understand it, myself. But I find it interesting.

I remained silent and suddenly I got the notification as "____ replied". Someone wants to know the meaning of Moksha and someone wants to know the meaning of avtar. Simple logic. 1. If Nirvana is moksh, then what is Mahaparinirvan ? 2. If Moksh is same as Nirvana or Mahaparinirvana and Nirvana & Mahaparinirvan means complete irradiation of the cycle of birth & death, then the final avtar of Lord Vishnu will never happen because for Lord Vishnu to take the Kalki Avtar he has to come to earth right. But once gone in Nirvana or Mahaparinirvana, there is no return. If return was possible to teach humanity Dharma again, there would't be another bodhisatta waiting in the Tushita Heaven waiting for his turn to come to earth and teach the Dharma again. Even Gautam Buddha revealed that uncountable Buddha's will be born as bodhisatta & achieve Buddhahood to teach the dharma. Upagupta Bhante, who is a 3rd century Arahant Monk still existing till now in the Naglok will protect the dharma and remain till the teachings of Gautam Buddha exist. Point is, it is very difficult to say anything in India. Someone or the other will raise an issue saying their thinking is right and others are wrong. Here, the topic of "moksh" was used to contradict my theory. But I used it back. This is not a chest thumping thing. Reality is after death truth will prevail. And truth win.

A little disclaimer from a Buddhist: Hay hindu saga, your content are good and knowledgeable. But i think you haven't gone through the other side of load Buddha story. In Nalanda university of old century, they haven't said that Buddha was a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. If so ,they had written it in scriptures, but neither the teaching nor the scripture have any words on it. What I means is that you are telling a story of hindu scriptures. To correct Gautam Buddha is not a incarnation of Bhagawan Vishnu. The Sugatha Buddha is the real incarnation of Bhagawan Vishnu and was born in Kirat present day Budhgaya in Bihar. Gaudha Buddha was agnostic and preached budhism based on "an atma" meaning there is no atma. While sanatana dharma is purely based on atma and paramatma which is Bhagawan Vishnu Himself. According to Srimad Bhagbatam. Bhagawan Vyas didn't incorporate agnostic Buddha as ninth avatar. It is Bhagawan Sugatha Buddha who helped Bhagawan Siva to kill the demon tripurasur.

Lord buddha never declared he is avatar of God or messenger of God. During buddha's time(you can find in tripitaka pali canon) they were only 3 vedas, not 4. And there was no ramayana Or mahabaratha epics. Not even in vocal form. People used to pray village goddess and they were brahmin used to practice 3 vedas. Lord buddha challenged brahmins and won over brahmins. You can see this in many suttas of buddhist texts.

The Puranas defame Buddha by claiming Vishnu incarnated into Buddha to preach adharma (anti dharma) and lead people astray. As an ascetic, he was taught by two Hindu yogis and eventually left them because he knew that their path was not the path to enlightenment. The Buddha denounced vedic scriptures. He was against the idea of Brahma and Brahma existing in every living being. The Buddha was against the caste system. He rejected the idea that people are Brahmins just because of their birthright. He was also against animal sacrifice which the Brahmins used to do in their ritual. The Mahabharat/Bhagavad Gita was a response to Buddhism because they saw Buddhism as a threat. The Puranas incorporated Buddha into the avatar of Vishnu because they wanted to claim ownership over Buddhism and they also saw Buddhism as a threat to the Brahmins.

This is not correct. Buddha is entirely different. The Gita says to take refuge in Buddha, 2:49. Buddhi Yoga is refuge in Buddha. Krishna Vasudeva (Ghata Jataka) was cursed and was reborn as Sariputta - the chief disciple of Lord Buddha who destroyed the curses on Vishnu. The Buddha line is independent of Hinduism. Unlike Hindu sages, Buddhist sages have infinite love and do not curse anyone. The hindu avatar of was the son of Anjana and was born in Gaya to lead the demons. Please do not confuse things.

Lord Buddha is not an avatar of lord Vishnu.In Dasharatha jataka,There's no mention of ayodhya.It was Varanasi.and there's no mention about ravana or lanka.and Sita was the sister of prince rama.There are similarities ,but not the same one.The jatakas are stories from different kalpas .And according to buddhism some things happens in the same way again and again.also the kalpas are a huge time range,so there can be another Rama,sita,lakshmana in any era.Not Vishnu avatar Lord Ramachandra
