Buddhist mantra chanting was my way in to meditation. Day by day, sitting quietly after chanting, my mind began to settle. I started in 2013 and have practiced daily ever since; it's hands down the best thing I've ever done, everything in my life is better. Get in - it's free, requires no equipment or classes, and it works.

I hope you're doing better. One huge thing that cures depression is to change the diet you're eating Stop sugar, carbs and alcohol. Do something for someone else to get out and away from the selfishness that accompanies depression. Explanation: focusing just on yourself in circles is self-focus.

To my fellow neurodivergent siblings, try meditating with a fidget toy, rocking, or walking. Moving and being compassionate toward my need to move (anyone with restless leg syndrome or tics knows the feeling) is something I learned to accept and even celebrate. Yes ! My Buddhist Centre teaches walking meditation and my teacher said it would be great for me as I don’t like sitting still. You could probably find some guidance on KZbin. I also chant mantras while I’m walking, which does distract me from my mind, but sometimes I need that too. But breathing meditation is probably my easiest for a sit down. Or look up YOGA NIDRA … it’s fantastic for relaxing, energy and calming the mind 🙏🏻❤️

Have you ever tried writing it down? Often I would notice when I put things into black and white, my thoughts slowed and were less automatic. Most of the time it would be my judgement of something not the thing itself that was the problem. Self criticism is so hard to break. Instead I imagine my best friend telling it to me. Then I write down what I would say to him. Then give that to myself. Cuts through all of the rumination. After sometime, I got to the point where I got used to treating myself better and the rumination was less intense.
@daveadams7989Ай бұрын
@ that’s great advice. I do know that sometimes when I hear myself saying it out loud to someone else, what’s troubling me, I can hear myself saying hang on, this isn’t a thing to be worrying about at all! Just letting it out can make you realise that it’s not even a thing!

I had the good fortune to learn TM Transcendental Meditation in 1970. Thoughts are not the enemy . This monk hated meditation from the start. Those who learn TM from the first meditation sink into an expansive peaceful silent mind. You are taught from the beginning not to push thoughts away, not to care. The focus is on the mantra. But it’s taught in a way that creates effortlessness. After learning this. Whether you use mantra. Breath, affirmation, self inquiry etc the technique is the same. Hearing this talk it sounds similar but there is still some force. Makes me more appreciative of Maharishi mahesh yogi’s technique not to strain or force against the flow of the thoughts. Now many are trying to mimic this but his technique gives the immediate experience of bliss and effortlessness.

If we use the meditation explanation as an analogy for self acceptance - it’s in the noticing and bringing ourselves back where we can expand our self acceptance. It’s knowing that all of our internal ‘stuff’ serves us, it’s what we do with it that can either build or break us. 🙏🏼
