Thai Buddhist Monks Collecting Alms | The Monk Life
It is tradition that Buddhist monks go on alms round daily in Thailand. This beautiful tradition of walking barefoot on alms round is both a practice for Buddhist monks and the lay community. The monks get to develop and practice mindfulness and the lay community get the opportunity to practice generosity. This sacred practice is part of the life of a monk. This video gives you a little glimpse into our world. We hope you enjoy. #monks #minimalism #buddhism

There were so many moving shots in this short video--the young girl in pink especially! I have a few questions: What is the significance of pouring water? I saw it twice--once upon the ground and once into a cup. How do the lay people know how many bundles to make? It seemed like there was always one for each monk passing by...is it the same number each day? The words that are chanted after giving--is it a blessing? Your videos are so lovely, thank you for sharing. I've become more interested in Buddhism because of them. I especially find contentment in the Eight Fold Path. -Diane

Hi diane. Great questions. Pouring of the water is symbolic of transferring The Good deeds that the lay people have cultivated to share it with their relatives who have passed away. Regarding alms offering, when we go to a new village, the head of the village will make an announcement the day before as to how many monks will be on arms around. And the chanting is a blessing that we give the late people for their act of generosity :-)

@@nickkeomahavong01 Oh wow! It is VERY symbolic for them then. Thank you for taking the time to answer. Watching these clips of the people, and how much it means to them is always so moving to watch, and I can’t imagine what how it feels to actually be a part of the exchange. Thank you for capturing a glimpse for us though. 🙏🏼

I normally don't think about these things but to answer your ? I've donated a few high street clothing this week for a good cause, I got someone who's craving for 🍦an ice cream, I sent someone who's going through difficulty in life my "well wishes," I said ILU to my cute niece, etc. I guess doing good things for others does not always have to come with a price tag. I just wanted to put a smile on someone's face, that's all 🤗

@@nickkeomahavong01 Yes there is no simple answer. But to begin with in the line with the question, who is this real god? Is there one? or which one amongst thousands humanity worshipped and worship as real. Worshipping monks? do Buddhist worship monks? Find your answers by yourself as Buddhist do not force anyone to believe with sever punishments and hell for not believing in things. What monks represent, that is a wonderful question, look for yourself. This is from an ex Christian.

@@Honestandtruth I do not care whether I have 'met' you not, as I do not troll or keep records of what I am replying to people. I do not follow a dogma now, but learn by myself. Likewise Buddha Dhamma allows you to understand your way, not my way. If Nick stays *silent* let him be silent, and find your answers and way, as there is NO evil god or deity to reward or punish anyone. I have been there done that [as a Christian] and now I am here for my freedom in Buddha Dhamma for a much better person. Buddha also kept silent for few questions and they are available to read, nothing hidden or secret for gossip. Forcing and demanding people is not accepted any decent society, unless someone is brainwashed in a dogma. Enough said and good bye, learn to be a better person giving others their own space [rather than trolling and harassing], that is what Buddha said in Kalama Sutta. May you be happy, may all sentient beings be happy, in metta, good bye!!!

@@Honestandtruth You said you asked 'hard' questions from Nick and *demanded* answers, I repeated your questions too for *you to find your own answers* rather than brainwashing with a dogma. Did I ever demanded or trolled replies to my questions? And that is the way of Buddha Dhamma. Just find your own answers to my reply to Nick. good bye and have a very nice and peaceful day, and let others follow their ways as we decent human beings [unless not].
