As a Hindu I agree to it. The goal of Raja yoga of Hinduism has similarities with Buddhism, like suffering, control of mind by Meditation, and at the end attaining Samadhi (Nirvana in Buddhism). Samadhi is the end of all suffering and escape from Karma and the Yogi would enjoy eternal Bliss

My force isn't force to the universe. What makes a life is not knowing what makes me is still being empty of knowledge to move on in life. Taoism believes we are water going to the sea. Good and Bad is the same because we don't deal with them only because they represent something sacred also - people. Beauty and Ugly are the same for the same reasons . Hi there, wanted to ask you a question. They say we are not our thoughts, but I have been searching through meditation for the real self behind the thoughts and can't find it. It seems that to me all I see are thoughts "the ego" but no self at all. They say the self is pure awareness but I can't seem to find that pure awareness. All I see are thoughts. Thank you.

@@Blades729 You say, "all I see are thoughts." Who is this "I" that is seeing the thoughts? By recognizing that "you" are observing something (your thoughts), you have already made the distinction between two separate things: You and your thoughts. Just like how you can observe a tree because it is detached from you, you can observe your thoughts because your thoughts are not attached to you either. Does that make sense?

My story. I had a child at 23yrs. Cleaned houses so I could keep him with me. Degrading. People appreciated my hard work and dedication. They paid me fairly. I enjoyed pleasing "clients". Got better and faster all so to have more appreciation (worth) come to me. Money followed. I now have a thriving cleaning service, 6 figures/yr. I honor my clients deeply. In turn, I've been rewarded (I am worth it). I am thankful. I am humble. I am not attached because there is no trying (it is my livelihood, yes). It came to me. 30yrs (not sure what I would otherwise). The 'quieter' I have become, the more pain and suffering I see. The more I listen, the more I hear. We still have to live and abide by the rules of this society. Money needs to be made. Still have to interact with others. This is a balancing act. Sometimes I have a hard time knowing which way to turn. Life can be such a struggle when I have too much 'activity'. Om Shanti

One Buddhist idea that has helped me understand myself is the 5 Aggregates: form, feeling, perception, mental formations, consciousness. For example, I see a nice man (material form); I have a pleasant feeling (feelings); as I perceive him to belong to my category of pleasant forms (perceptions); I indulge all sorts of fantasies about this man (mental formations); all this enabled by consciousness of the initial form (consciousness). All this can happen so fast that before you know, you're acting on that initial consciousness of form. However, with mindfulness and time, you start to notice it happening. At first, this insight is after the fact, and you can even trace it back. With further time and practice, it becomes easier to see.

I got a real hard time in my life, which reflects in all negative impression to lead to the worst depression, hopeless and the worst case is that I visual and project negativity out, I met 99 percent people who are showing disgust and dispite towards me now for at least 9 years, the first year I had embodied Buddhism, stoic philosoph but after 5 years or less it was a big blow back, this year I found your channel and I feel stand corrected philosophy mindset sometimes needs to be relearned like a man who need to relearn to walk, to stand and live, which knowledge are eroded by wrong everyday movement and behaviours, thank you for your effort, dedication and tutorial best regards from Hong Kong , 🙏🙏🙏

I am someone who struggled with self-discipline even when I know I shouldn't be doing it. And just recently I've turned to the wisdoms of Buddhism and now I want to talk about my own personal experience with that lack of discipline. don't be ignorant towards your own desires. the more i tried to supress my desires the more i thought about it. and the longer that i suppressed to it the easier i fell into it once again. and when now that i've started watching videos on self development, the more i realized that i should acknowledge them. but not pursue them. and maybe it's only for me but it helped me. it allowed me to think about more thinks and not just "i shouldn't do that" over and over in my head. I told myself "I know that i want to do this. the people are me are also doing it, encouraging me to do the same. but there are consequences to this desire. will you continue having that short periods of pleasure now and suffer the consequences later? will you turn your back the promises you made? now that you've experienced the consequences of your decision, will you continue going down this road?" and there's more to it but this is the general concept of it. it's impossible not to have desires. desire has made society progress. desire is a part of having goals. and sometimes, you have the desire to do things that will only slow you down. acknowledge that you have those desires but do not pursue them. don't be one of those people who swore not to drink and later smell the alcohol leading them into drinking. itch and the itch will spread. don't entertain those itches. don't let them control you. you are the captain of your boat. not money, not alcohol, not games, not anything. you decide what road you choose to go down on.

There is this American, buddhist, Bhante Vimalaramsi, who uses a very structured and sound way of teaching meditation, via KZbin. He is also the U.S representative in the global, buddhist conferance in Kobe, Japan, so he is a well acknowledged guy. The stuff he has done in regards to Metta meditation has been extremely helpful for me. His instructions are very simple and clear (The 6Rs) and he speaks English fluently (he is american born), which I think makes it easier. Futhermore he is a well acknowledged guy whose teachings obviously are very authentic. I think this is one of the dangers of looking up meditation on KZbin, some stuff may seem good on the surface but ultimately a lot of it is bullshit. Authenticity is such an important parameter. For me his teachings have changed my life for the better, I just feel so much happier and more joyful. Even from a performative aspect I see a radical change. For when it comes to things like advanced mathmatics, which are inherently hard, a heavy mind will make it impossible, a joyful and light mind on the other hand is so much better equipped to deal with things like that. Ultimately I think that whatever we do, our minds are always the arbiters of how we percieve and interact with all the beautiful and bad things in life, so to cultivate a happy, joyful and kind mind, that is free of craving, is to do ourselves the best service possible, regardless of our situation. In extention it will also be the best thing we can do for other people. Let's say you have sweet affections for a girl (the strongest craving), well, in letting go of this craving through meditation you will be happy and detached, and you can show sincere kindness towards her with no strings attached. Ultimately, this will make the relation between the two of you the best it can be, regardless of whatever it becomes (Speaking from experience, lol). This is truly beautiful in my mind. It also makes leading a stoic life so much easier and to fully commit yourself to hard work, because ultimatly I think that through cultivation of the mind we realize that happiness derives from within and that the intention is what matters, and that wokring hard ultimatly means that we are doing an act of kindess towards ourselves (Kindness is exactly the intention we cultivate in Metta). Bhavana is the pali translation for meditation, it literally means just that, the cultivation of our mind. In the role of an arbiter I think that the mind is the most important aspect of ourselves and as such I think that meditation is something that anyone should take seriously, but I guess a lot of people on this channel already do :D I would implore anyone who is looking for a sound meditation practice to look up Bhante's metta meditation work though, it is truely something special and has a profound effect if you indeed stick to his principles. // Warm regards from Sweden.

Is funny how nearly every religion or life philosophy has in common the control/influence of consciousness on the mind and/or body. The first philosophical realization was literally the huge extent of our ignorance [Socrates : "One thing i know know it's that i know nothing"]. With that knowledge, peoples started to understand and the more they understand, the more they realize what they don't control and what they don't know. Knowledge is power.
