I am a born Catholic, but I always liked the teachings of Buddhism. I started listening to Rev: Ajahn Brahm,s talks and they are simple and inspiring. I like his style of preaching too. I wish him good health and long life to spread Buddhism in the materialistic world.
@user-gj4hn1hl2q9 ай бұрын
You aren't born Catholic you're raised Catholic. I was raised Catholic as well. From your name, Catholicism is very common among Hispanics and Europeans. There are many good moral qualities that can be taken from Christianity, but what attracted me to Buddhism is that it does not expect you to have faith or believe in anything. Buddhism suggests you find the truth for yourself. I e. Don't accept blind devotion, come to your own conclusions based on experience.

Ajahn Brahm's teaching makes me laugh even in a moment of deepest despair and depression...and I had to agree with everything he says. It's amazing how his jokes bring so much joy and healing power...and make me understand a bit more about how ignorant and illusional I am, just as any other human...

Honesty and humility and acceptance--not just for life, but for our own weaknesses. Thank you for talking about disappointment and how life may not turn out the way we hope, and about how to throw out plans and interact with life instead of trying to control it. Of course he's contributed to the wealth of the country. He brings contentment and a means to help deal with life's difficulties, making people healthier. Healthy people are better able to take care of themselves and are more productive at work. He can always argue that he's improving workplace productivity in the country. ;)

I lived much of my adult life without a plan (also without a spiritual life which might make a difference), my life improved a lot once I had some kind of plan, I was able to progress at work and get a better salary, and this gave me a bit of mental/emotional space to explore spirituality... I think some kind of plan can be really helpful in navigating this life, so long as it's not a concrete or adaptable plan.

The closest proof I could offer would be to suggest looking to Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the research around that. A great deal of Buddhist philosophy has been incorporated into DBT and "Real" people not in a "Bubble" have been able to use the skills to improve their lives both personally and interpersonally, myself included. What he's saying here and has been echoed by psychologist Nick Salsman, is that expectations and judgments impede reality and can cause suffering.
