Grew up in the Ozarks in Missouri. I moved to the west coast after joining the military. Got married, etc. After living there for years, took wife and kids for a vacation back to my home town. She did not understand why I would honk the horn when we visited people on farms out on the middle of no where when we pulled up to the house. I did not want to get out of the car, then be surrounded by a bunch of dogs that wanted me for thier chew toy, or get shot by surprising people.

When I was 16, I was home alone. My Dad had a trailer in our field and I saw someone pull up and hook up to it to drive off. I grabbed my Dad's pistol and confronted the guy. Turns out my Dad was letting him borrow the trailer but had not communicated it to me. Probably not the smartest thing for a 16 year old girl to do, but I wasn't about to let someone steal something that my Dad had worked hard for. Needless to say, that fella never borrowed from my Dad again 😏

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I hate huge abandoned warehouses / factories. As a firefighter, I get invited to these places at all hours of the night for fire alarms. The more abandoned, the more dilapidated, the more false alarms we get. And even though they’re false alarms, we still have to go to make sure. The fun part about going to a potentially squatter filled warehouse during a fire alarm is, you have the added cardio accelerator of blaring loud fire alarm horns and blinding strobes. Not allowed to carry on duty and even with flashlights the blinding strobes really don’t help. Hate those buildings. Creepy as hell!!!

Years ago I worked at a warehouse in Detroit, near the river. Not a high quality neighborhood. There was 2 of us working afternoons, getting off at 1am. Now this building was a square city block, and 4 floors high. When our shift was over, we had to set the security alarm before we left. If the alarm did not set, we had to check every door in the building, leading to the outside, to find out why it was not setting. There was very few lights on and thousands of places to hide in that building. Let me tell you, the adrenaline went up about 10 levels whenever that alarm did not set.

@tomjustis72372 жыл бұрын
When Buddy talked about the stress involved with checking out a dark industrial building it brought back memories, and I can confirm his feelings. When I first got out of the Marines back in 1974, I took a job as armed security with Wells Fargo. (I wasn't with the armored car division, but with the contract security division.) One of my posts was a place named the "Space Center". It was a large facility with around eighty buildings which the owners rented out to various businesses who needed storage space. (Hence the name.) Once an hour I had to leave the office and do a security check of the facility. If I found an unsecured door on any building, I had to go in and "clear" the building before securing it again. While I never had to pull my .38 (all security and police carried revolvers in those days) and I was a combat vet from Vietnam, it was still a heart pounding experience being alone in the dark with the unknown, wondering who or how many may be there. The unknown threat can be far more frightening than the known threat.
@circlediamond19632 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing except in an high-rise office building in LA. Only the bottom third was finished and occupied. The top two thirds of the building was empty. Had to do rounds every hour. Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping then going into dark, empty areas, alone, and having to physically check every floor. I too carried and always hoped and prayed I would never have to pull my gun on someone.

It isn’t just in the country…. I live in a very urban, modern, highly populated, major city environment and I too, will not leave my home without my firearm - EVER!! I do have my CCP (although no longer required legally but I still recommend it because of the training benefits). Nevertheless, having my firearm with me at all times has saved my life, and the life of others, 5 times over the last 13 years while living here!! In today’s crazy and unpredictable world where the public cannot be trusted at large, it is a HUGE benefit to know that carrying peace of mind of being able to defend your life (and others) from threats is there and available. It is the most important of all of our Constitutional rights… I don’t know how I stumbled across this “Buddy Brown” channel but this is the third time I have and the third time I’ve been impressed with the video, it’s host, and it’s content. You guys know it! Daylight hours I usually carry a 9mm due to most city people respect a larger bore over accuracy. Around about dusk, I switch over to a .22 with segmented hollow points for a quick kill on possums and coons. I usually carry a 7500 lumen or more flashlight for people because all it takes is a glimpse to be blinded. Plus it's pretty handy for close quarters combat. Peace is better, but sometimes it just takes a little more.

I can relate how things that happen at night in pitch black can scare the crap out of you. I was a security policeman in the Air Force doing building checks alone at night. It was completely dark, and one of those nights where you can hear a mouse fart at 100 yards. I was walking around the perimeter of one of the base buildings, and as I walked under the duct on the exterior air conditioning unit, it kicked on while I was standing right underneath. As you can guess my heart rate too was about 160 bpm. Luckily the air conditioner didn't get ventilated, but it was close!!

Our campus was bounded on one side by woods, and by the Tri-State Tollway on another. My friends used to say that one night they would jump out at me. I told them it was a bad idea, unless they _wanted_ to get hurt. My MO was “swing the Mag-Lite first, ask questions later.”
