Born in Norway and having lived all over Scandinavia, in England, Scotland and Wales along with Germany I led a gypsy life and I have also traveled most of the US... that is until I found my all time favorite place in the world, the South, I have found my "forever home". I love the South and its people, customs and manners and this song just nails it.

I’m 30 now. When i was 16 my Aunt Edie died in a bad car crash. The funeral was held in Mississippi and it was something I’ll never forget. Mississippi police stopped every intersection for the funeral procession and saluted us (40 cars) through each light. What’s even more fascinating is that cars from every direction on a very busy road pulled off to the side of the road, stopped and waited out of respect. I always think well you wouldn’t see that up North.

I'll stop my truck in the middle of the road or drive the middle to make people stop for a funeral or a school bus. They'll hit me before they hit a child or funeral procession. We also pull over for ambulances and fire trucks. You've seen our roads, so you know how narrow they can be. I would hate to be the one that held an emergency vehicle up and someone died that could have been saved. I'll bet your Aunt Edie is smiling down on you from heaven when you think of her. ❤❤❤

@@KingofredeyesI was gonna say. Move back before you lose your roots. I am from the Midwest, with my grandparents from KY, and I could never live in NY. I have been to NY city many times but I could never live there. One if the reasons that the South has been the cultural North Star of America is because y’all down there were never very willing to run asphalt and cement over the graves of your forefathers in order to conform to the industrial spirit of our age and that is a good thing.

I recently traveled to LA to visit a childhood friend and to take a week long vacation. I wanted to see the California beaches (ps they suck! the water is freezing and the beach is nothing compared to the beaches on the gulf coast and east coast Florida.) Anyways me and my friend and some of his friends went out for drinks at club. Another group of people approached us and started making conversation, one of them noticed my university of Alabama shirt and my thick southern accent. So he asked if I was from Alabama and i told them I was a proud Alabamian. He looked extremely triggered and asked what I meant by "Proud Alabamian" I said I'm proud of where I come from, which is Alabama. He said no I get that, but why are you proud of being from the capital of the confederacy? Then he told me I must be a racist, Nazi, slaveowner who hates everyone who isn't white. Next thing I know half the bar is surrounding me calling me a racist. I knew I could beat the shit out of Most if not all 1 on 1 but I had no chance against the whole bar so i left. I'm never going back to California again.

I moved to Alabama in 2001; I've met some of the friendliest, most patriotic, tradition loving people here in the South; they know the value of family and friends. Although I will still love my home in the North, I'm glad to live here in the South, especially today when much of the country seems to have lost those values, they are still here in the South.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. A very good friend mine lives in Florida. She was born and raised there. She has always told me that people in the south are more loving. But you know people are different every where you go. I grew up in a tiny town in Oregon. No one knocks on the door you just go right on in. We would give our last shirt on our back to back to anyone. I believe we are loving and friendly here. You are going to find horribly rude people and extremely loving people everywhere you go because of the times we live in. The Bible even tells us that there will be a lack of love everywhere (Matt 24:12). I’m not putting anyone down and I know my dear friend is probably right. But you can find truly loving people everywhere you go. I really hope I get to visit the south someday soon.

It's not that the northerners are bad it's just it's different here in the south. After the tornadoes it Alabama in 2011 I seen work crews and state police cars from every southern state. Same thing with Katrina. We help each other here in the south and we never met a stranger

I like this song and I'm British. It's foreign and exotic to me but I think that feeling of being from the (American) South is expressed well through this song - I think music is the universal chain, what can't quite be expressed through words alone, music often makes up for. But do bare in mind that there is something unique and special wherever you are and whatever community you belong to in the world.

When Buddy came out with this one, at first I didn't hear much new in the lyrics but, that music and his voice just drove the whole tune into my head and, now I hear it while I'm driving the highways with no radio even on... Buddy Jewell has a fantastic voice and this is a great song! I left The South just long enough to serve most of my time in uncle sam's boys club, then HAD to come right back home. I missed The South so much. I don't have to think about it, there's no place I'd rather be! when I dream about the Southland, home is where it all begins. carry on Sweet Southern Comfort, carry on.

You know what, I really hate how people are always saying, "Oh you cant be southern if you aint born southern." Well ya know what, Im a born and raised indiana girl, But Im a COUNTRY GIRL. Soon as i hit 18 im moving to georgia. It dont matter if you was born in Mississippi, Louisiana, Washington, California, or Jersey. Im as much a country girl as anyone that was raised in the carolinas. Dont matter where you're raised, it just matters whats in ya.
