I recorded this unaccompanied solo positioned 5 ft. away from BR's drums. Though posted elsewhere on KZbin, the sound quality is greatly improved, and the pitch corrected, which is all important for a post like this. Recorded at the ETCETERA Club in Washington, DC, Nov. 29, 1974.

Nice work, JOHN! Buddy was super dangerous when he was relaxed. And he is super relaxed here.

Great, I'll be looking forward to that. (There are 22 previously-unpublished BR concerts on my site, at www.mikejamesjazz.com/br_clips.html (free to listen and download) You can hear a couple of the performances I mentioned as being close to the time of this one. (the "Mother's" concert, in particular) Enjoy!

So great that you recorded this. I saw Buddy several times in that era, but never recorded a performance. 40 years later, I'm still trying to play like him. 😀

Nice one! Thanks for posting this. I heard Buddy twice this year, within a few months of this performance, and recognize the (Slingerland) drum sound he had at the time right away. Cool.

Mike James I'll be posting more from the Etcetera. Glad you had the opportunity to experience Buddy perform in person during this period.

Thank you John! I will put a note on my lesser quality post, directing people to your post from the master tape! (and after a while I will delete mine)

I'm guessing he was appearing with a small group and not the big band
