Portland Wrestling's villain of the century, "Playboy" Buddy Rose, goes toe-to-toe with the man who's been calling him out for months, "Dr. D" David Schultz, in this ruthless, anything goes Cage Match!! This extremely rare NWA-PNW footage comes from Portland Wrestling's Aug. 21st, 1982 televised event from the legendary Portland Sports Arena!!

In fairness, it was the 80’s and Dr. J was in his prime. Still a pretty major faux pax. Slightly diminishes Shultz that the promoter can’t even get the first letter of his name correct. Sends the message that he isn’t that big of a star.

speaking of tv shows all star ran from 1956 to 1989 coast to coast in canada in color the whole way. stamped ran from 1957 to jan. 1990 going to color about 1972. the 4 promoters for all star were rod fenton, sandor kovacs, al tomko and fred roselli in that order. all deceased. portland may have been the best of them all, all around. fans cheering rose? never in canada. dr. d was always a face on stampede.

now that i think about it, we got rougeau montreal wrestling in ottawa for a very short period, like 2 months.. saw creatchman, the sheik (promo only?), tarzan tyler.. i thought serge dumont was an absolute monster but career petered out... btw, i'm thinking 1970s. 1990's montreal was not a rougeau promotion, although they appeared.

@@smcchandler3430 Don't forget Kiniski he was Kovacs' partner until Sandor sold his part to Tomko. Kiniski sold his part to Tomko and brought in Stampede and basically wiped Tomko off map. Strange thing is it was Tomko who invaded Calgary first with no success. Kiniski had the NWA license so all was cool with Stampede raiding BC

@Mariners_Rich
@Mariners_Rich 7 жыл бұрын
It is Sawyer. When his brother Buzz was here he started as Buzz Saw Kane and later went by Buzz Saw Sawyer. When Brett came he kept the "saw" thing going and so went by Hack Saw Sawyer. Never as Brett Sawyer. Soon Buzz would leave for Georgia and Brett remained for several months before he too went to Georgia and still carried the Hack Saw name for the rest of his Portland days

In Portland Wrestling. Some of the most famous heels in wrestling were fan favorites in Portland. When Buzz Sawyer was hated in Atlanta and battling Tommy Rich. He would come to Portland to wrestle with his brother Brett who was a babyface. And the fans loved both Buzz and Brett Sawyer. Jesse Ventura was another wrestler that was a baby face in Portland but a heel elsewhere.

Is it me or shouldn’t cage matches be decided inside the cage and not that stupid escape the cage. How does that end a feud.
@KayFabe87
@KayFabe87 Жыл бұрын
It allows someone to win without the other guy being pinned. Gives the booker some options coming up with a finish to keep the guy who loses strong. It also helps to smooth out the ego of the guy doing the job. He doesn’t have to take the pinfall. He “loses” by virtue of the winner escaping and “running away”. Much easier to sell that finish to guy doing the job.
@paladin1726
@paladin1726 5 ай бұрын
They have to have a reason to climb the cage. Otherwise there's no reason to climb it, and then you don't have the crowd getting anxious when the action starts climbing. You might as well scrap the cage and have a lumberjack match. I've never been a fan of cage matches, except Halloween Havoc when Muta used his mist to put out the fire when the cobweb decorations caught on fire.
