Gary Moore was a big fan of Buddy's and wanted him to have more recognition, which is why he'd often turn up at these gigs.. to try and bring him to a wider audience. It's not about one guitarist smokin' another, it's about mutual respect !

I think that's just Gary's demeanor. They jammed together on several occasions I believe. Two of my favorite guitarists on this planet!!! Still sad that Gary left us. Much respect to both!

Buddy is a serious guitar player. Gary really liked him. Buddy has a real nice touch to the blues & boogie. Maybe Gary could smoke him playing heavy metal but Gary had basicly gone over to the blues & stopped playing heavy rock. I really liked Buddy. That's a great sounding strat Buddy is playing too.

I was sitting three rows back right in the firing line of Gary's amp on this gig and he was disgustingly loud. He came on and played the second half with the band and for me it was ruined by his volume. Obviously the audio on the videos of that night was either recorded from the other side of the stage or thru the desk and edited afterwards. Make no mistake, Gary Moore drowned everyone out. Full marks to the sound engineer on these vids...

I can imagine how it must have been. I saw GM several times and on one occasion he was supported by Buddy...and I agree that GM was really OTT with volume....and a tad arrogant...I actually rated Buddy as a better musician...

Don't forget Darby Todd on drums - in the pocket or what? Apparently when Gary Moore had Albert King guesting on one album, The King said to him, 'son, don't you think your playing too many notes?' Gary's response was not recorded. Buddy W is superb here.

bob lackey IMO Gary was the best blues and blues/rock player ever. If not, who's better? Would need to see evidence. That said, buddy w is right up there. One of the best humans. To me, Gary is on diety level. Human measurements don't apply.

I was at the jam to and I disagree with Graham Rowley. Gary 's tone and playing was superlative and biting and he didn't drown out the band he was using a smaller amp then Buddy. It is that gary's aggressive playing and with a Les Paul with is a far superior guitar then a Strat made it sound louder. Buddy will never allow anyone to play over him or his band.Gary looked bored and life looks like life has taken a toll on him.
@garymansho93668 жыл бұрын
Excellent respect between 2 great guitarists.
@grahamrowley16918 жыл бұрын
Looks like you weren't directly in front of Gary then, Mike. Amp size and guitar type son't alter the volume. The amps are mic'd to the main pa so the desk can balance the volume. The Les Paul, in my opinion, is not superior to the Stratocaster (I own two of each), but I think that your comment 'made it sound louder' backs up what I said. Gary Moore sounded louder. That is what I said. His Marshall amp was actually more powerful that Buddy's but as I say, if it is kept at a reasonable volume the sound will come through the pa well balanced. I wonder if you were further back or sitting at the right hand side? It is nice we can all have our own opinions and are able to express them on here. I have been a GM fan since way back in the 70's and have seen him perform numerous times in bigger venues where he was very good indeed and I still listen to his playing. Best wishes, Graham.

Mike O'Brien Gary Moore he was a profesional guitar player , you can not making noise o trying to show up when there is a piano and another lead guitar , everything was on its place but nowdays people listen music with their eyes.

Did I say Buddy was a bad player or a joke as a player? Nope. Just said Gary looks bored. Got nothing to do with Buddy's playing or tone.
