I recently traveled to LA to visit a childhood friend and to take a week long vacation. I wanted to see the California beaches (ps they suck! the water is freezing and the beach is nothing compared to the beaches on the gulf coast and east coast Florida.) Anyways me and my friend and some of his friends went out for drinks at club. Another group of people approached us and started making conversation, one of them noticed my university of Alabama shirt and my thick southern accent. So he asked if I was from Alabama and i told them I was a proud Alabamian. He looked extremely triggered and asked what I meant by "Proud Alabamian" I said I'm proud of where I come from, which is Alabama. He said no I get that, but why are you proud of being from the capital of the confederacy? Then he told me I must be a racist, Nazi, slaveowner who hates everyone who isn't white. Next thing I know half the bar is surrounding me calling me a racist. I knew I could beat the shit out of Most if not all 1 on 1 but I had no chance against the whole bar so i left. I'm never going back to California again.

I’m 30 now. When i was 16 my Aunt Edie died in a bad car crash. The funeral was held in Mississippi and it was something I’ll never forget. Mississippi police stopped every intersection for the funeral procession and saluted us (40 cars) through each light. What’s even more fascinating is that cars from every direction on a very busy road pulled off to the side of the road, stopped and waited out of respect. I always think well you wouldn’t see that up North.
@bjwhite72104 жыл бұрын
I'll stop my truck in the middle of the road or drive the middle to make people stop for a funeral or a school bus. They'll hit me before they hit a child or funeral procession. We also pull over for ambulances and fire trucks. You've seen our roads, so you know how narrow they can be. I would hate to be the one that held an emergency vehicle up and someone died that could have been saved. I'll bet your Aunt Edie is smiling down on you from heaven when you think of her. ❤❤❤

It's foreign and exotic to me but I think that feeling of being from the (American) South is expressed well through this song - I think music is the universal chain, what can't quite be expressed through words alone, music often makes up for. I live in the Pacific Northwest. A very good friend mine lives in Florida. She was born and raised there. She has always told me that people in the south are more loving. But you know people are different every where you go. I grew up in a tiny town in Oregon. No one knocks on the door you just go right on in. We would give our last shirt on our back to back to anyone. I believe we are loving and friendly here. You are going to find horribly rude people and extremely loving people everywhere you go because of the times we live in. The Bible even tells us that there will be a lack of love everywhere (Matt 24:12). I’m not putting anyone down and I know my dear friend is probably right. But you can find truly loving people everywhere you go. I really hope I get to visit the south someday soon.

This was the first country song I ever listened to.. I'm talking about 14 years ago, I was 4 years old in my brothers green 1996 GMC Sierra and it was the first song he played from his CD. I've been hooked on country music ever since then. Good memories(:

Ahhh, the sweet sounds of the south. Listening to Buddy sing this I can hear all of the kids playing out in the yard and listening for the sound of mothers voice calling everyone in to dinner. At night we would lay outside under the stars and I always wondered when God created this wonder if he could have started with the South... Just a thought... God Bless & Good Health to All
