This song is from the heart that has been broken. My mom cheated on my dad when he was in Vietnam. She shamed herself. Something broke in dad and he left one day to heal in the wilderness. To this very day I have not seen nor spoken to him. I know he is alive and well. He has another family now. I have not tried to contact him, I don't want to bring the sadness back to him. By reminding him of a life he worked hard to forget. I love you daddy.

I like it less with the video. If you just listen to the song without it it sounds more like she just rejected him. With the video it seems like she was fickle and he was stubborn and if they'd just sat down and talked they might have made it work without drinking themselves to death.

Guys don't think all of us women are like that. If anyone has problems they should talk them out instead of doing something that would make it worse. This song always hits a littler harder for me, after an experience with a good friend of mine. Zach and I were deployed together on a few occasions, and always had something to talk or laugh about, he was just one of those guys that was super easy to talk to, laid back and easygoing about everything. We came home from his last deployment, and he found his wife with another man. He took his stuff, moved out, and seemed to be handling things as well as he could, given the circumstances. We went to his hotel room to check on him one day, and found him in the chair, with the shotgun on the floor where it had fallen. I love you Zach. You'll always be my brother, and I can't wait to see your smiling face again.

I listen to this song multiple times a day. No one will understand the pain and hurt that the individual endures. I've tried to drink my pain away before. Yeah, I TRIED......I thought about it. But rather than take my own pain away, I told myself, enough is enough. I learned to cope with myself by burying myself in work. Love is betrayal by commitment. Then, all you have left is HOPE. I totally understand the whole song, cause it happened to me, but I wouldn't give up living. Now, I've accomplish wealth to share it with the next one. Hopefully, I'll keep my guards up and find someone that would really appreciate me. Thought I share this whoever likes to hear it.

maro maro You’re clearly disgusting. How could you make such a horrific generalization about American soldiers? I’m a proud American but I know that sometimes I don’t agree with what our soldiers do, but that doesn’t make them terrorists. They are just doing what they have to for their country to protect our freedom. They are still first and foremost humans with a heart and just because they make mistakes sometimes doesn’t deprive them of humanity, and it certainly as crap doesn’t make them terrorists. Maybe watch what you say on the internet before putting it out there for millions to see.

My husband & I had to move from Wilmington NC to Kalamazoo MI in a 2 week warning because my mom was Ill & that move was the biggest mistake of my life I should have just came or brought her to me. My amazing husband 1st boyfriend @ 12 got depressed & stopped working while I worked 3 jobs 100 hrs a week he lay in bed & gambled & drank MY life’s savings up from my business down south. I begged my soul mate for 18 months to help me. We had perfect credit, over 300,000 a yr & a big old savings account to have nothing but debit & over drafted bank accounts ‘ max out credit 😊

This is not a "sad song" its a real life song. It sucks to go thru this, and as someone who somehow survived this literal scenerio 4 years ago, i will say this song made me realize what i was doing to myself and i hated myself and has helped me thru the process. Soldiers not only go through physical pain but also psychological pain in the battlefield and then coming back to the only one thing you love so much and have your heart broken by them. It is too much to bear. If only people realised that staying faithful and loyal is not even hard as long as you truly love someone.

Unfortunately as it is hard to understand for the average un-informed American the US army are a mercenary army, that fight rich man wars and not ever defending their country, only making it worse. The only country that has ever succeeded in attacking Washington was England. The so many poor Arab countries are unable to do anything to America, yet Americans go out there and put foreign children in their graves premmaturely. There is a solid website that speaks about Veterans, called Veteranstoday.com US army is no patriotic joke, wars always take more than they give, while many soldiers on a foreign mission succumb to gambling, alcoholism, and various pleasures of the flesh, especially when they see firsthand they are not fighting a just cause like all US wars are plain heists.

It’s the saddest country song I‘ve ever heard, & reminds me of my precious but has such an angry & pessissimistic due to hls severe Asperger‘s diagnosis. Often he dwells on ending it all; also takes his anger out on me for trivial issues. He also is a binge drinker do all I can do ok pray that God can help him since I‘m powerless. I understand he is going through a rough patch now with severe medical & financial issues, but I believe that‘s no excuse for his verbal abuse. I pray that God shall send him an Angel so he will see things in a new light. I shall always love my sweet & sour Aspie. Thank you Brad Paisley for your heart-wrenching ballad. ☦️🌻💐

@@bloggstein Thank you. I guess I’m like everyone else thinking an artist either knows the thing directly or is making it up. When it’s this clear sharp and real, it has to be from someone who lived it. your link shows someone involved in the process has a painfully real clear experience and image of it all. It’s so hurtfully real it reaches out and grabs people. Humbling levels of communication skills too, cuz at least I KNOW what they mean, say, and are illustrating. The song always hurts hearing it 😞

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind Until the night He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away her memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said, "I'll love her till I die" And when we buried him beneath the willow The angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind Until the night She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la

The original lyrics are “He put the bottle to his head and pulled the trigger, and finally blew away her memory.” Much more impactful, but perhaps too graphic for the general public.
