This song is from the heart that has been broken. My mom cheated on my dad when he was in Vietnam. She shamed herself. Something broke in dad and he left one day to heal in the wilderness. To this very day I have not seen nor spoken to him. I know he is alive and well. He has another family now. I have not tried to contact him, I don't want to bring the sadness back to him. By reminding him of a life he worked hard to forget. I love you daddy.

I like it less with the video. If you just listen to the song without it it sounds more like she just rejected him. With the video it seems like she was fickle and he was stubborn and if they'd just sat down and talked they might have made it work without drinking themselves to death.

Guys don't think all of us women are like that. If anyone has problems they should talk them out instead of doing something that would make it worse. How can someone have no guilt in cheating on their partner while they are deployed? If anything I'd miss him so bad I'd need a drink to calm me down. When he gets home I'd hug him so hard he won't be able to get me off of him.

My brother died in August. He was way too young and struggled with alcoholism..he fought so hard to beat it. And my own mom drank herself to death and this song makes me think and cry for both of them. He never got over losing her. And in the end I lost both. I wish I could join him some days. God give me strength to face the future without my best friend, my brother.

This song always hits a littler harder for me, after an experience with a good friend of mine. Zach and I were deployed together on a few occasions, and always had something to talk or laugh about, he was just one of those guys that was super easy to talk to, laid back and easygoing about everything. We came home from his last deployment, and he found his wife with another man. He took his stuff, moved out, and seemed to be handling things as well as he could, given the circumstances. We went to his hotel room to check on him one day, and found him in the chair, with the shotgun on the floor where it had fallen. I love you Zach. You'll always be my brother, and I can't wait to see your smiling face again.

Unfortunately as it is hard to understand for the average un-informed American the US army are a mercenary army, that fight rich man wars and not ever defending their country, only making it worse. The only country that has ever succeeded in attacking Washington was England. The so many poor Arab countries are unable to do anything to America, yet Americans go out there and put foreign children in their graves premmaturely. There is a solid website that speaks about Veterans, called Veteranstoday.com US army is no patriotic joke, wars always take more than they give, while many soldiers on a foreign mission succumb to gambling, alcoholism, and various pleasures of the flesh, especially when they see firsthand they are not fighting a just cause like all US wars are plain heists.

I’m not American so please excuse for any errors. I just found this song randomly on a bus traveling just two weeks ago. Rain was pouring and the snowy fields covered in snow melting slowly, all is dark, the bus warm and cozy. Damn, I started choking up hearing the chorus. Honestly it felt like I haven’t been listening to music at all in my whole life, until I heard this song. Exceptionally well written and straight to the heart type of lyrics.

I listen to this song multiple times a day. No one will understand the pain and hurt that the individual endures. I've tried to drink my pain away before. Yeah, I TRIED......I thought about it. But rather than take my own pain away, I told myself, enough is enough. I learned to cope with myself by burying myself in work. Love is betrayal by commitment. Then, all you have left is HOPE. I totally understand the whole song, cause it happened to me, but I wouldn't give up living. Now, I've accomplish wealth to share it with the next one. Hopefully, I'll keep my guards up and find someone that would really appreciate me. Thought I share this whoever likes to hear it.

It takes work, therapy even after a husband being a drug addict for over 20 years not just walking away taking everything in the home leaving a few beds on the floor no food and towing a Durango with a husband trying to stop tow driver...changes to a trap house living under bridges and an ex-husband in another relationship completely different from a Clear Window looking in seeing a family being family at a dinner table.

maro maro You’re clearly disgusting. How could you make such a horrific generalization about American soldiers? I’m a proud American but I know that sometimes I don’t agree with what our soldiers do, but that doesn’t make them terrorists. They are just doing what they have to for their country to protect our freedom. They are still first and foremost humans with a heart and just because they make mistakes sometimes doesn’t deprive them of humanity, and it certainly as crap doesn’t make them terrorists. Maybe watch what you say on the internet before putting it out there for millions to see.

I met Alison about 19 years ago at a little festival in Eastern KY. It had a flea market and live entertainment. I was at a booth looking at some things. When I turned to walk away, I bumped into a lady walking by. I stepped back and apologized, I couldn't believe my eyes! It was Alison, she apologized to me too. She was so polite and humble, I was in seventh heaven because I had just met the lady who was behind the voice I fell in love with on the radio. That was a long time ago, but a memory I still hold dear and will never forget. She is still my favorite of all female artists.

Soldiers not only go through physical pain but also psychological pain in the battlefield and then coming back to the only one thing you love so much and have your heart broken by them. She put him out, like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind Until the night [Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss:] He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away her memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said, "I'll love her 'til I die" And when we buried him beneath the willow The angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la [Alison Krauss:] The rumors flew, but nobody knew how much she blamed herself For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind Until the night [Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss:] She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la

We ended up getting back together in 2012 and eventually moved in and started a life together. Married in 2014. Now separated as of August 23, 2024. Been a rough few years. She walked out and left a note about selling the house and thats it and we havent spoken since. Im prayin for a miracle. This song speaks to me. I can understand it. While im not going back to that dark place. Im no longer drinking, and im a born again christian, i do see how this would be a lot easier…. Feel like bein gone would be easier. Lyrics: She put him out, Like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette, She broke his heart. He spent his whole life tryin' to forget, We watched him drink his pain away, A little at a time, But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind, Until the night... He put that bottle to his head, And pulled the trigger, And finally drank away her memory. Life is short, but this time it was bigger, Than the strength he had to get up off his knees. We found him with his face down in the pillow, With a note that said, "I'll love her 'til I die." And when we buried him beneath the willow, The Angels sang a whiskey lullaby. La la la la la la la, la la la la la la. La la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la. Oh, rumors flew, But nobody knew how much she blamed herself, For years and years. She tried to hide the whiskey on her breath, She finally drank her pain away, A little at a time, But never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind, Until the night... She put that bottle to her head, And pulled the trigger, And finally drank away his memory. Well, life is short, but this time it was bigger, Than the strength she had to get up off her knees. We found her with her face down in the pillow, clingin' to his picture for dear life, And we laid her next to him, Beneath the willow, While the Angels sang a whiskey lullaby. La la la la la la la, la la la la la la la. La la la la la la la, la la la la la la la. La la la la la la la, la la la la la la la.
