All this time later and your video is still helping people, like me. I appreciate your step - by- step instruction on top of the small tips like putting oil on the cam shaft for the initial start protection. I am surprised it is so easy to remove the gasket. I could not say thank you more. I bought a 98 dx sedan with 108k and it was overheating. Paid over 1,300 on replacing the thermostat and radiator, and then found out it had a bad head gasket. Was quoted 2260. Found this vid, paid 60$ for all the gaskets, my girls dad had the tools, so I did it myself. First time working on a car too. 9k miles so far no issue, and even with all the money I put into it, still cheaper than any of the user used cars people were selling with more miles on them. Y’all saved my ass 😂

So this vid really helped me while being on a budget.
@BlueEternities3 жыл бұрын
A real service to humanity you're offering here. Without the extra things that will assure another 100k+ (machining the head in particular), these are perfect instructions. Sometimes your options are limited. Those are the most important times to have someone who's able to tell you exactly what is absolutely necessary to fix your car so that it won't break down again right away, at least from that particular issue.

Might want to mention the knock sensor sits right behind the head under the intake, and if not careful and you break it, that's 130$ and waiting a day to get it. Careful tilting head back!
@Al_Swilling2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you mentioned that. I've redone heads on V-8s and older inline 6-cylinder engines in the pre-computer days with carburetors instead of fuel injection; so I've never taken the head off of a Honda 4-cylinder engine before. If you hadn't mentioned the knock sensor, I probably would have broken it. Thanks for mentioning it.

Is the reason you take the valve gear out and the cam so you dont have to set it at TDC because I have always set the engine at TDC before removing a head especially on interference engines
@atm95663 жыл бұрын
He marked the timing. He took the cam gear out so he can slide the timing belt off and on. Few other ways around this. You can just slide the timing belt off and have someone relieve tension when you slide it back on, also you can get a pick and remove spring off the tensioner, careful not to drop it down inside the cover. If you know the car got really hot I would rec removing entire head and having it resurfaced. But this is listed as budget job.
@jnoneofyodambidnezz28763 жыл бұрын
@@atm9566 but in ways.. he has lead many to believe that the cam is not going to shift or any of that. When in reality once you loosen those cam bolts and remove the rocker arms from the cam shaft. Everything is going to be out of wack and unaligned. It’s just way easier to loosen the tensioner pulley on the timing cover and remove the head and cam and rocker arms in one piece
@applepoop104 жыл бұрын
Looks like someone neglected their oil changes. Even at 358k miles, proper oil changes done on time will have a golden brown color and not black as sin. Also never reuse those head bolts, they are designed to stretch once they are torqued down; if you try to reuse them there is a good chance they will snap inside the engine block when torqued down again.
