I'm sorry for such a long and boring video. I promise to make the part 2 video better. I will be doing a P.I (performance improved) swap on a non P.I short block. I spend most of the video comparing P.I cams from a Mustang GT, F150, and Crown Victoria. Enjoy!

Had it bored .010 over due thin walls the already have. forged JE pistons, mmr rods ,mmr oil pump and OPG , clevite bearings , factory forged crank , factory timing components with metal tensioners and stock truck cams. I didn't know the cams are basically all the same . I learned something new. Thanks man . The more i can learn about these engines the more i love them . Im putting a lightning intake and homebuilt mid plate to bolt up gt500 superchargers and intercoolers. Hoping to get a vmp gen 3R on it soon

i recently bought a 2000 gt that already has comp cams, trick flow springs, bbk long tube headers and full exhaust. however whoever put it together didn't do something right when installing everything. cylinder 1 is a dead cylinder and 4 more cylinders have low compression. i was able to look down the fuel injector hole with a scope and noticed that the intake valve guide had snapped off and is still connected to bottom of the valve. this is my first "project" car. so I've been watching as many videos of tearing that engine as possible.

Sounds like it was not timed correctly. I would anticipate rebuilding those heads and possibly pistons too.

Would you mind going over the cam bores and how you inspect them for excess wear? I know the oil lasagne can be checked with plastigauge but there’s not much info for how the bore surfaces and cam journals should look.

These days, absolutely! Ford made millions of 2v and they put them in trucks, vans, and cars. They respond very well to power adders and are tough as nails.

While caliper measurement is interesting as i personally had different results.it still doesnt show duration, lobe separation angle and various other details that i have verified thru engine builders. There are many that cams that have very similar lift but different duration and separation angle. I know 5.4 trucks have the same cams as mustangs but the van and the explorer did not that i put a caliper on. Interesting finds tho. Todd Warren said even with some difference it wouldnt account for much power.. he couldnt see anymore that 10hp AT MOST.

I obviously don't have the best tools. A good machine shop can measure the tolerances much tighter than I can. You could very well be right but I've never found a difference but I could be wrong. I have a dial indicator i can use on the 2000 mustang and 05 crown vic cam. I think the formula that you use is take the lobe measurement, subtract the base measurement, multiply by the follower ratio.

Just to make sure I understand correctly . You are saying I can just use the PI heads, factory cams and all on my non pi 4.6? I don't have to have them ported or run aftermarket cams to get 300 ish HP? I have a good set of low mileage 2001 grand marquis heads and intake, I would like to use.. I'm doing a budget WAP rebuilt and swap, have you ever used 4v na pistons in a pi headed engine for an even higher compression? And also are coyote rods direct swaps in 4.6s?

Yes and yes! Coyote rods are an excellent budget rod. They can handle 700hp no problem.

Everything has a shelf life but I think you'll be fine. Just make sure you have a good supporting fuel system

Absolutely. I recommend using ARP head studs when building your engine. I also recommend upgrading your fuel system and running high octane fuel like e85 or at least 93 octane with a high quality octane booster.

TFS heads are amazing IF you can get them. You have to be careful with cam selection though because they are completely redesigned.

Hey man I have a question if you can help me out ? I have a 97 f150 4.6 2v 5speed I wanted to build a Pi conversation with the pi cams as well But is there anything I need to know before doing this ? And can I swap my 5 speed transmission with one form a different Ford ?

It's a pretty straightforward process. You can make any transmission work, especially if it's 2wd. You may need some pigtails to splice into your wiring harness and some basic modifications for a crossmember if you are wanting to make it a 6 speed

Your 07 f150 already has pi heads on it. If you are thinking about doing a 3v swap that would be a whole different story. You would have to find a donor vehicle because everything but the block is different. You would also have to figure out what you want to do with VCT. It can definitely be done though.

Rebuilding the engine is inexpensive. Maybe $500 if there is any machine work needed. Have you tried to see if the engine will spin over with a breaker bar?

Just seeing your videos for the first time .Im just learning the 4.6 engines.. question: I have a 97 Lariet 3.6 5 speed, obviously the non p.i. engine. It does great for what I use it for which is work and driving. I was going to doma ligting swap and eventually will. But right now the engine runs as new. But I want a little more power.. so longtubes, pi heads and non p.i. cams... what do you thing the power would jump too or should I not even waste my time?

Ok, first off...you're not an idiot. It's very complex. The 98 had different pistons to keep the compression ratio higher because the 98 heads had bigger chambers. The 02 has pistons that lower the compression ratio because the heads "performance improved" heads had smaller chambers. The 02 cams have a more aggressive profile. I'm not too sure about the trucks but on the mustangs the intake manifold is the best improvement. I have a video for comparison.

You would have to change the heads to the 4v heads with cams and intake (depending on the year of the engine you have) that or just a complete cobra engine. The GT has an iron block as well, most cobras have aluminum blocks with the 03 04 cobra being the exception.

What all can be done to "beef up" this engine on an extreem budget and build for boost? A friend told me to get MLS head gaskets. Arp head studs. Coyote rods. File the rings. He said do that and get the heads ported,polished, and cams and it should be good for 500+ hp. Any truth to this?

A couple fell out with the valves. Last month yanked some NPI off an ol250 i found in an ol air park storage building in oklahoma. Im hoping I can use the 750k Romeo's in my truck as a spare later down the road. I know at some point the turbos are going to run out of cam so id like to have an extra set.
