You can use a long snout water pump also. Actually the long snout water pump from the Lincoln Navigator (Navi pump) is an upgrade. You will need the water pump pully from a Lincoln Navigator or 1997 crown victoria for it to work.

Very informative! Is it necessary to remove the motor or can you do this job with the motor in the car

You can do this job with the motor in the car. It’s actually pretty easy just time consuming. I’ve done a few of them in my day lol. I will say it is nice having the motor out to be able to do an oil pan gasket and rear main seal right away tho.

Do you have any clue if the non pi pistons are a different bore size? I’m doing the swap right now and the pistons and bore of my block are a different size but they are still ford pistons it’s very odd

All the 4.6l engines ever made to the best of my knowledge are the same bore from the factory, however if the engine that you have was a reman engine from ford it might be bored .020 over. I had a 2000 mustang GT and it had a Windsor engine in it, when I got it it had a cracked cylinder wall and when I pulled the motor there was a metal plate on the side that said ford remanufactured 9/04. Doing some investigation some ford engines got rebuilt vs replaced so it’s possible that one of yours was a remanufactured unit

Question i got a 97 block and 00 heads and ive heard to go with comp stage. 4s or any aftermarket cams you have to mess with clearance issues

So that’s not true. I have 2011 heads on a 2000 block, but the crown Vic I got my bottom end and block from was a non pi motor so your 97 block is the same, the pistons have a smaller dish in them then the pi block pistons do, you can run the 00 heads on the 97 and you can do after market cams, what you have to watch out for is the piston to valve clearance issue, to big of cams with make the valve hit the crown of the pistons. I have stage 4 comps in my motor and it’s basically the same as yours without any issues. If I could do it again I would contact Todd Warren cams and have a set of custom cams made. My buddy just did that because you can pick exactly what you want

I used the comp cams beehive valve springs and the comp cams retainers, that’s it. I also had the heads complete gone through and a valve job done and stuff but you might not need to go that far.

I have a '96 GT automatic I bought from an elderly gentleman who took really good care of the car and it's just now hitting 80,000 mi. I want to go with just a little more power not a lot I'm going to a 373 rear end what would you suggest would be my basic setup to add power to the car? I've received many different answers and I'm new to mustangs and a bit confused with all the different answers

We’ll let me start out by saying thanks for checking out the channel! What exactly are your power goals? And do you care if you need to run 87 or 93 octane? The best way to ad power in my opinion Is going to be forced induction unless you want to stay naturally aspirated. Then I would say pi swap your car with some stage 2 or custom cams and some sort of header and mid pipe combination with a good tune, that would require 93 octane if you pi swap as it raises your compression from 9.6 to 10.5 to 1. If you just want to gain about 30 horsepower I would say just some bolt ons and a tune. But if you wanna gain 50 or more you’re gonna have to go into the motor

I'm a canyon Carver when just like an extra bit of power getting up and down the hills of Missouri. I live down towards the Ozarks and the back roads have a lot of hills. I run 93 octane anyway

You’re welcome! Oh okay, In that case I would just do headers and full exhaust, a bbk throttle body plenum, cold air intake and a sct tune. All that should get you around 15 to 30 hp depending on the tune and climate conditions

​@mzondi1970 I'd recommend coil overs, sway bars, panhard bar of some sort. Maybe a k member and aluminum block out of a explorer. Get that suspension tightened up and shed some weight. Really surprise people

Hey so i have a question, i swapped a 02 engine into my 99 crown vic and im having weird issue's. Upon taking the old engine apart i see the front crank sensor tone ring in alot different..... should i put the original for the car back in or is it fine?

The tone rings should be the same. What is different about them? If anything I would just use the ones in the 02 engine with that crank sensor. And does you car have knock sensors? I noticed that when I bought a 99 crown Vic non pi engine it came with 2 knock sensors under the intake manifold and the 2000’s era engines I’ve gotten didn’t have them at all. Just something you might wanna check before you swap it in.

@T-MillProductions so on the 99 the tone ring is alot thicker not sure if that changes the signal or not. And I don't think this newer engine has a knock sensor on it either.

As the wiring harness didn't have a connection for it and I never wired one in.

Okay then you should be fine, I don’t think the thickness makes a difference since the sensor picks up signal on the side

I have no idea man. I had a 96 years and years ago and that had the flat metal one like the mustangs did. Maybe someone switched it at some point idk lol

@T-MillProductions im going to put all new valves on the pi heads that are polished and port the heads myself and put a stage 3 cam ,. long tubed and put cats back on but highflow cats and xpipe boom tubes , then get the victor jr eddlebrock ported intake manifold I already have a 78mm throttlebody ported from bbk new ford performances water pump & oil pump & timing chaine to get rid of that plastic stuff 3:73 gears get a new fuel cell , then get a oil pan protect kit that has bars across to protect it put a roll bar in the back I took out the seats and door panels already put racing seats up front delete the center console and put a tremac 6 speed manual then get a heatercore and paint my car midnight blue on either amrecian racing 16 inch rims polished aluminum or i might go 19 inch but i like more sidewall & tow it to go and get tuned at stlmustang [ I say tow because I'm not driving it a hour and a half to blow up

The dipstick is matched to the dipstick tube the depth of the oil pan don't matter the oil level will sit at the same location no matter what pan is used

No that’s not true. If the pan is smaller it’s gonna raise the level of oil higher on the stick. If the pan is bigger it’s gonna lower the level on the stick.

Basic math. Smaller pan is gonna make 6 qts sit higher and a bigger pan is gonna make 6 qts sit lower in the pan

@T-Mill Productions they are not all 6 quart pans the smaller pan is 5 quart that is why the oil is only sopose to be at a certain height in the pan so the crank dosent sit in oil that would cause massive drag I dont know where you are getting your information from but it is not correct

All 4.6 engines take 6 qts of oil according to the ford shop manual. The pans are different because of the k members in the different cars.

Only if you are going to run the for racing high volume oil pump. If you are going to use the non pi pump then you can leave the pickup tube and pan alone

Might leave my pan and pickup tube alone for the time being. I have a crown Vic so it's really just going to be a cool cruiser/daily driver until I get too carried away eventually. So the only things I actually have to swap out should be intake manifold, the coolant line under that and the connectors to the injectors?

For the most part yes, are you trying to pi swap your engine? If so then you’d need the heads, pi intake, pi coolant cross over, possibly injectors depending on what then flow rate is on your stock ones and a tune.

Yea but the pan is shallower and with the high volume oil pump I wouldn’t wanna run the pan empty

So can u just add the heads and leave the oil pump, oil pick up oil alone. Are you just mentioning the different pan because you changed the oil pump and pick up?

Yes that’s correct. I was just putting it in there that If you get the ford racing high volume oil pump and pickup tube you need the deeper oil pan. If you run the stock pump and pickup from the npi engine you wouldn’t need a different oil pan. I probably should have specified that better lol, thanks for bringing that to my attention!

I have no clue, I haven’t even gotten it in the car yet lol. I’ll be dropping it in soon I hope. I thought about putting it on an engine dyno first and then a chassis dyno and see what it makes on both

I think will my set up I’m hoping to make around 325 to 350 at the wheels. I do have an edlebrock intake I may put on too. But this combo should work. Did you see my 4.6l engine build videos ? I go over everything I’ve done to my engine. I’m gonna make another video on what I did too it since now it’s completely finished
