Hi Mark, About 20 years ago I got interested in watch repair. I used to buy and sell at a local Flea Market, just as a hobby. One day I went to a local watch show, and Bought a couple of 10 pound bags of junk watches. I had since lost interest in watches till I started watching your channel. I started digging through those old watch bags. I came upon a Louvic watch. It has a Swiss movement looks to be good quality, Missing case back. But the bags are full of backs so it might be in there. Just found it interesting to have gotten back into watch repair because of your channel, and finding a watch with your name on it. What a coincidence. Thought you might like to hear about it. Love your vids, and hope you had a Great Christmas, and have a Happy New Year.

Great overhaul! I got the same watch one year ago, it showed good readings in the timegrapher but it was gaining 5 minutes per day when on wrist. My guess from visual inspection is that the diashock spring was not sitting well on the cap jewel so this last was slightly inclined. I told the seller and he sent me another unit without cost for me, the second unit was working perfectly, around +0 s/day for one year now.

I bought the same watch more than a year ago. i only paid $35 dollars.. and im so impressed with the quality. sapphire glass and the movement has been going strong ever since i got it. A good frind of mine bought a very expensive Oris that was DoA AND had pieces of metal / flakes all over the dial... yiikes so i guess it can happen at many price points..

I do minor repairs but have never had the courage to take a movement apart so I thank you for at least showing me how and without some of the 'drivvle and garbage ' of other reviewers. I bought this exact model over a year ago to see if I liked autos. I still wear it regularly and it has been completely reliable. Unfortunate that you got a damaged piece, I would have loved to see a your thoughts on a working watch. But sadly that is bit of roulette you play when ordering one of these Chinese models.

I've seen several more DOA and almost new quitting NH35/36 over the past two years. I am a watchmaker myself and noticed some lubrication issues with them. All in all I have managed to get 320 degrees amplitude on an NH35 by properly lubricating it, which indicates to me that this isn't done up to the full potential of the movement straight from the factory. Now I understand it's not worth it regarding the cost of these movements, but the fact that some had very thick grease on high speed low torque bearings surprised me and in some cases literally caused total non runners. The Starking is not a DG movement by the way, even though it resembles it, there is literally not a single part interchangeable with the DG. Not even the hands. There is a drawing of it, where it is printed as SK1813. These movements can be reliable, but are definitely not high quality and SK now uses the Miyota 8215 in all these models. The 1813 had at least 50% defect rate, which is indeed more than just bad.
@clou3778
@clou3778 4 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering if the new movement that starking is using better or worse than the one that they use. Also, do all of their models use the same movement, and are there any watches that are better overall for $100 or less? I'm very new to watches(as in 30 min ago) so please don't bully me too much for these questions that are probably very easy to answer :)

If I understand correctly, the movement is a Chinese NH36, and not a Seiko. No so-called connoisseur has already reported this. you have my full appreciation! you are the only one who knows what he is talking about! Wonderful keep up the good work 👍 merry Christmas

Hey! Excellent video as always! If I'm not mistaken, the NH36 is actually called 4r36 in Seiko watches, which is the successor (or upgrade) of the 7s26/7s36. Hacking and handwinding. Sorry your watch was dead... :(

I have the same Cadisen, great watch, works great. I received it with a super annoying dust particle by the dial. I opened the case back (later I removed the dust by removing the front glass - i didn't know, that it was removable). It was real nightmare to put the case back into place. I didn't have a press back then, I managed to close it, on the kitchen table, using my whole 90kg body weight. I put the watch onto the table and on the case back I put another case back from a bigger Forsining watch, which was just pressing on the metal and not the glass itself. Then using a kitchen bread board I pressed it with my whole weight and it snapped! Imagination is everything ;) With the press would also be very difficult, i suppose you also had a tough time there :)

Thanks for sharing. I have the exact same watch. Gains 40 odd seconds a day on wrist. Off the wrist it loses about -10 to -20s a day in all positions! I put it on a timegrapher and it’s still +40s but then after a few minutes it slows to about -20s/d! Weird! Poor QC with these but I love the clean design of the case and dial so wear it anyway! Guess I’ll have to buy a new movement too. Ps NH36=the newer Seiko 4r36 i think!

FINALLY we get to see a more modern Seiko 4R/NH movement! I've seen pictures online but I'd never seen how that hack lever works on video until now. That's weird that the 7S26 center wheel didn't fit. Maybe that's an older version of the 7S movement? Many of the parts of the more current 7S/4R/6R/NH/NE movements are meant to be interchangeable.

Hello Mark. I unfortunately did not buy the Cadisen but instead purchased the first watch shown in this video-the Starking Automatic. And yes, it stopped working after 3 hours. Only $40+ but anticipated a better outcome. Got the usual runaround from Ali Express and Starking and ended up keeping this albatross. My question is, which movement(s) can I purchase to replace it with that any half-competent watchmaker can replace and what should I expect to approximately pay the watchmaker for his labor? Another excellent video and always exciting to see a "master" at work!

I guess I am one of the fortunate ones. I received this watch in early December of 2019. So far, it is about +0.5 seconds on the winder and +3 seconds on the wrist. With its sapphire watch crystal and solid end-link bracelet, it definitely is worth what paid for it, which is about $48 US.

I'm wearing a huge Paulaeris "Classico U1001" homage at the moment, suspect it has a Mingzhu in there but has surprising features like a titanium top ring, what appears to be sapphire, AR, the fly in the ointment is the expectation the very neon orange hands and numerals would be lume but aren't is a tad annoying but I bought it for the canteen crown more than anything else and £18 for a 50mm plus crown automatic watch with two functioning subdials is pretty darned good and I haven't had to correct time yet so its holding well. I have big hands and large wrists so I prefer oversize pieces anyway.

The Starking does not contain a "DG2813" as stated in this video, which is a caliber produced by Dixmont-Guangzhou (Five Goat Watch Factory). Several Chinese companies use a similar design, including Beijing Watch Factory's SB11, SB12, and B16ZR. Starking Watch Group actually has their own movement manufacturing company, Shenzhen Jingrui Movement Company Limited. The caliber is the SK1813, and it has been modified to run at 28,800 bph, and feature 25 jewels, as opposed to Dixmont's 21,600 bph, and just 22 jewels. For around an extra $10, Starking now sells the AM0171, which is almost identical to the AM0184, except the date window is moved from 3H to 4.5H, and it contains a Miyota 8215 movement, instead of the in-house SK1813.

I bought two of those with 7S26 movements. They kept accurate time for four months and then became woefully bad, even when kept on a watch winder. I replaced with a $225 Orient and am very happy with it after one year -- and it also has a sapphire crystal.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! as to the watch... I am a bit scared to order one of these, for two reasons. The first the lack of quality control, and secondly the range of happy customers vs unhappy customers, is a very wide swing... so I may get a good watch and I might not, and if I don't I have to wait another 3 months to get a new one, or get mine repaired and returned... I would rather just buy a nice Citizen NH8350, or something like it.

That's unfortunate, I haven't had any problems with mine. If you bought it from Aliexpress you will probably get a full refund.

You will get a full refund, but you have to ship the watch back, with certified mail, and with your own expenses.

@@stevepa999 I got a second watch because the first one was faulty, I had to send it with certified mail and the seller paid the certified mail. It was the official Cadisen store in Aliexpress

Great video thanks, but I'm still pissed that people treat time with contempt. Always late and behind schedule. No point in having accurate time piece in my world.

Nice video. I have a cadisen , different model though. So far it has been really good. Mine has Miyota 9015 movement but it comes at a cost.

I bought one of these Cadisen during the Singles Day sale. I was luckier than you because mine works fine - arrived in good working order - and it feels pretty good for the price. Bracelet is nicer than the disposable Seiko 5 bracelets or the natty nylon straps. Case and dial is uninspiring but serviceable. Can't really complain for $50 to be honest. But spending a few bucks more and getting a Seiko 5 or a Citizen Eco-Drive is better value IMO. Truth be told I hardly wear the Cadisen so whether it's working or not, it wasn't a sensible purchase.

Watching this lovely video in late 2020. Your final comment struck me as extraordinarily poignant. It seems SO long ago we all felt so optimistic. Now. Let's get this annus horribilis over and pray 2021 is back to normality!

My only watch with a 7s26 movement is a new Seiko SKX007 J With no "hand-winding" or "hacking" I was quite SHOCKED that Seiko was able to sell this movement at all, in the U.S.A. ! But, since 1996, they have sold MILLIONS of them! First thing I did was order a brand new NH36 for it. Will get that installed in January. Maybe then, I'll actually like and enjoy the watch. It's my first SKX007J. And am so far disappointed.

I've done this swap. The day wheel and movement spacer need to be transplanted from the old movement. Also you need to source a separate crown and assemble your own stem since the 7S26 stem won't work. Or you can source a SARB059 crown with stem which will fit. It's not a simple movement swap. There are plenty of videos all over KZbin showing the details of all this though. And yes, Seiko has been selling the SKX with the 7S26 since 1996. It seems the 7S movement models (SKX and old 5's) are finally going away now so no more shocks for people who don't know what they're getting.
