If your that far just do the heads now! Heads cam and headers, intake manifold. The kit that Richard holden use to promote was slap on 100hp plus i got one also dont know if im keeping it yet but might make some videos im gonna subscribe for this ride tho hell yeahh brother bog block thumpin!!

What type of cam you use ? Im looking to buiild my buddy marine 454 block with not a wild cam just for cruise.. i have a edlebrock top power package 2095 that my friends say thats not a typical street driving application because its a 1,500 to 6k RPM . Im keeping my heads they are nice edelbrock

Those are flat tops with dish. I look at posts where people ask what the compression ratio is with heads they using. I bought 454 ftom salvage yard i pulled. $278. Tore down and engine super clean already been rebuilt everything look great, bearings etc but stock timing chain very loose. Heads like new! 030 pistons. Even cam has no wear. Pistons im mine are true flat tops with 2 valve relief. Just a hair below zero deck. Probaly .0005.

nice yeah I'm on the hunt for an old motorhome now, then I can get the 454 and th400 in one shot plus have some fun with it before we scrap the motorhome

Why wouldn't do a compression test first to see the condition of each cylinder?

Can you turn it over by hand fast enough for that to be an accurate test? I got rid of this engine, searching for an older version

bummer on the spun main. block is probably junk. At this point you are probably best to sell the heads for 100 bucks, give the crank away and scrap the block. keep the pistons/rods (just in case) and the lifters (not kidding). Lifters are easy to resurface by hand and the gm production lifters are way better than anything you will get in 2023. Find a mark iv 454 thats got much better aftermarket support.

Yeah I ended up selling the whole thing, back on the hunt, thinking old motor home, could have fun with it for a bit on the property then scrap it out and build the engine
