Yes, you can use cardboard, but cardboard wrinkles more easily, so you have to be careful not to bend it.

Hello there, just found your channel, nice videos :D btw when you talked about the morita assault rifle i think you should said "under-barrel shotgun" not grenade lancer, they had shotguns in the movie not lancers.

You can also make this carbine by finding a clear photo online, downloading into a graphics program, scaling it up to the size you want, and printing it out--then use that fullsize photo to draw the outlines on foamboard.
