I just bought one its spot on Top tip If you put the handles on the front and back of the box in the upright position then place the grill on top with the loops over the handles the handles stay up and Act as a pan rest😉 It also helps keep it rigid and put the ash tray with the lip facing down 😊 The pan as a half inch gap so fire can now breath 😋 Happy campin🍻👍👊

I have one of these stoves, the door should always stay open and face the wind direction. The wood should be cut longer and allowed to rest on the door, hence pushed forward when it gradually burns out.
@wildwoodways58123 жыл бұрын
There are two versions of these, one with the pegs as above and the one I've got where the grate hinges down and rests on metal hooks on the sides. It's pretty solid, no problem picking it up by the handles and moving. The ash plate slides in the same. Of course, you miss the Trangia option unless you drill extra holes Edit: the Redcamp one linked above is like mine, see the rivets for the clips on the side. Recommended!
@oxxnarrdflame88653 жыл бұрын
That’s the one I got.
@longrider423 жыл бұрын
Oh am I glad I bought the Redcamp version. The fire grate is hinged inside the unit, so when you unfold it. The grate drops down and engages a hook built into the folding sides and locks it into place. Then yep, you got the ash pan right, and the top grate, only fits in one way really. Other then that, its a good little stove that I thought I'd never buy. Mine weighs in at 1.9 pounds, and also comes in a case. I bought mine to primarily use it with the Military Trangia Spirit Burner.

Great review. Got the same one by Redcamp. Mine doesn't have the pins, when you open it the bottom grate is hinged and it drops into place. I did a couple of modifications to mine. Added a lower grate with smaller holes. Put a flat washer under the keyring on the latch, and found out the ash pan wouldn't go in all the way because I had it upside down. The bent end faces down.

I agree with the comments. I have the hinged grate version which locks up nicely and holds things rigidly. The dor works fine when you realiseits just a simple latch. I bought mine in the middle east where is cost an amazing £11. As a consequence i bought two and by removing a hinge pin from the side i can join them together for when i need two pans on the go. Another tip, if the hinge pins fall out, put a slight bend in them and they will grip tightly. Rickety...nonsense..hahaha
@marksadventures38893 жыл бұрын
I got one of them- rock solid and apart from the nasty blue film coating I can recommend it. I didn't get pegs with mine. As for the latchh I tightened mine when I did my first inspection and burn. I use a foil try below- no dramas.

Hi Andy I've got one of these and yes I've had to do a few modifications such as a cross pan support about an inch high which seems to work well, yes it is cheap and the build quality is questionable but as an entry level wood stove It doesn't break the bank🙂

@andrewbadinski70403 жыл бұрын
With one simple mod this is in my opinion by far the best stainless steel folding wood stove on the market for the price. Been using mine for quite a while and has never given me any trouble. I wouldn't hesitate in buying another one if I lost this one... Even over a Firebox.

I have a Redcamp version of this in large. If I need to carry a burner in my pack I would take a little rocket stove. But for car camping, or if you plan on doing proper cooking, these things are great. You basically have a decent, stable platform for doing decent cooking with camp cookware or full size pans. Much more efficient and useful than trying to balance your little camping cup on a log fire whilst you spill your noodles into the embers lol
@kennethwilson86333 жыл бұрын
Yep pretty solid stove I have the hinged bottom grate and the pegged version both work well and you don’t need a wind block but if you use one it reflects the heat to you well in cold weather. Have fun stay safe.

the fuel door on a 45 ° or 50° might make it work like a rocket stove.. say a hook & eye or a chain & slot arrangement to hold the fuel door at the desired angle ... .. if feasible .. it would allow longer sticks to be used...

I have one of these, you can raise up the 2 side handles and clip them in the upright position with a bit of wire so that you can get better airflow for boiling quicker.But then it gets hot so you have to use pliers on a multi-tool to remove it for other cooking. I think it should be possible to get some sheet metal and make a pot stand that either sits on top with the good airflow, or slots into grooves cut into the stove with an angle grinder to make it flush and reduce airflow for normal cooking
@outdoorpoormet94473 жыл бұрын

The redcamp model they sell today does not have the pegs for the bottom grate which is hinged and makes it less rickety. Ali express sells stainless steel floor drain plates and grills the right size to close up the bottom holes. I bought both to give my the option of using wood pellets with the drain or just firewood using the added grate, which is much like your top grate in hole size. These are great stoves for those on a budget. I love mine and nowadays they remove the blue film.

Hmm...I bought the same stove, but the fire grate on mine folds down immediately upon opening; also, try inserting those hanging side-handles into the ears on the top grill, which will stabilize it on top when cooking. The door is an admittedly frustrating thing, as the latch isn't well conceived. I bent the ring so that it is easier to turn when blazing hot. The door needs to be open, usually, to allow air flow. Overall, i have used this stove extensively, and i must give it excellent grades in all areas...except for that frustrating blue plastic, lol.

I have one of these stoves now for 6 years, but mine come with a bottom rack inside that folds down when you open the stove….it stays open and is very sturdy….i use it with wood and wood pellets…..if you use it with the door closed it still works very well and maintains a perfect fire…. Just 3 negatives and 1 of the negatives isnt that big of a deal breaker…… 1). the handle to open the side door gets very hot and you need have gloves or your fingers won’t have any fingerprints left… 2). When you place a large pot on top, it can smother the flame and put it out….i hade to make a raised pot stand for it…. 3). This isn’t a big deal, but still a negative… I like to go minimal with chest sling bag…it takes up a too much space…..if I use my backpack, then it doesn’t matter….

I think it would cook a lot better if you were to get four small rocks or four glass marbles and space them out on the grill to set your pan on. And also open up the door on the side to allow more air to come in. I have made a few of these out of metal cans. For you use it you should spray paint it with black barbecue grill heat resistant paint. It can help reduce corrosion and protect it from rust assuming it doesn't get so hot it burns off. Because I know it has its limits but it was designed for barbecue grills so it might work on it. It works on my other cooking pans I take out. If you want a good free one, go behind a restaurant with a buffet and get a large green bean can or other metal can. And you can cut a side hole to add more materials. Small holes around the top and even cut down a little ways to allow air to come in, and then some holes around the bottom for air to come in usually about half inch above the bottom of the can. If you use a can opener to make the top holes you can bend them up enough to where it will lift the pan up off the edge providing some space too but you don't want to leave the impart Sharp
