Update - I just recieved my order from Urban Survivor - 2 days! much faster than I expected. Everything including the NVG30 was much higher quality than I had expected. I wasn't expecting junk based on the reviews but I'm actually quite impressed with the build quality of everything. Speaking of the NVG30 - It's very capable IMO. If you're looking for something to augment basic home defence or work as a backup to a PVS14 etc - I think it's absolutely fantastic. Functionally I feel as if its about 80% of the performance of a Gen 2 NVG for about 20% of the cost. Outside of performance you give up a little FOV and keeping additional 18650 batteries as a backup in your go-bag or truck is probably a good idea as ENVGs don't sip power as efficiently as analog systems do. Very impressed with the the Good Nite Gear service and the quality of equipment!

Give it another 2 years and it will be amazing to see where digital NV is at. If we're all still around by then of course with the way things are going. At $495, the NVG30 is hard to pass up. Biggest downside is I've heard the mounting solution is proprietary to the company and not compatible with most mounts on the market. Hopefully the company changes that in the next version. Also I couldn't find any information on their site on how to get the NVG30 with the 940nm vs the 850nm it comes with except that it mentions it being possible in the description. If they add an option to get with the 940nm, I might just buy one.

After 17 seconds.... and we have a clear winner! The NVG30. Let's be honest, that is a massively *HUGE* price difference for the average consumer, or the average Prepper who has to budget out his preps. And, realistically there are going to be a massive amount of items, gear, supplies, etc. that are going to be higher priority than spending $2500.oo for analog Night Vision gear. Which, admittedly isn't even remotely touching the ceiling of where analog NVs can be found, in terms of price. Wealthy Preppers? No issue at all. Average Prepper? Yes, many of us would love to own a brand new Porsche. But our bank accounts say "Base trim Nissan Versa." (The cheapest brand new car currently available in America as of 2024.) Most folks will buy the NVG30 because it's affordable, and gets the job done. Is it going to be as good as the PVS14? No. But realistically, you don't expect it to be; at that price-point. Still, I enjoyed this comparison video, and was the 50th Like on it.

Awesome video! Just a little sidenote; PLA soldiers definitely aren't running around with NVG10s, but they are running around with Type 19s, which uses a monochromatic Brigates ultra low-light CMOS sensor. You can now buy the ADNV-G14P, which uses a similar sensor from Brigates, I have a short on my channel showing its performance in comparison to Gen 2+ and Omni VIII Gen 3. Also, NNVT is now mass-producing compact EBAPS/EBCMOS sensors, which are essentially CMOS sensors with GaAs (same as gen 3 photocathodes) as the photosensitive component. Digital NV tech is just getting into its stride. I'm really excited to see what we can buy in the next decade or so.

I love my nvg30. I've owned or used probably close to a dozen and a half different nv devices over the past 30+ years. Everything from Vietnam era Starlight scopes and Soviet Cold war era PN1s to stuff from ATN, Nightowl, Bushnell, Sionyx, and a L3 gen 3 pvs14. I can say as far as bang for your buck, the nvg30 can't be beat. The size and weight are great, the built in IR is nice, the lag is barely noticeable, the picture in picture zoom and color filters are awesome, and the ability to not only record, but also run it off of an external battery pack which can double as a counterweight is excellent. My only complaint is that it seems like there should be a way to adjust the ocular lens to bring the screen closer to your eye so there's less unused black dead border around the screen and the body could be a little more durable, maybe using a fiber nylon polymer material similar to what Magpul uses for its products.
@UrbanSurvivor8 ай бұрын
Thats a great idea! There does seem like a lot of dead space around the screen that could be better utilized. The manufacturer is aware of my channel and will be scanning these comments for feedback and I'm putting togther a list of ideas that might be worth considering in future device upgrades.

They can even be made true color with a filter wheel that spins in front of the detector.

I still have my 1st gen Russian tube. I was into night vision before night vision was cool. It worked - ish (for what it was) I also owned an OG PVS-7 and that thing was great (for what it was) I now own an NVG30 and am exceptionally happy and completely surprised for what this unit can do. It’s proof that year after year, digital is coming ever closer to making the choice toward blurring the difference. I have been walking almost nightly with the NVG30 without illumination (for the most part) Will I be driving my quad at 40mph through the woods with this? No. But for using it in and around my home and forest, for fun and security, absolutely. I have a rifle mounted IR Illuminator/laser (TLR VR) and as soon as I’m able (recovering from cancer), I’ll post some videos on my barely used KZbin channel. I’ll mount the TLR on a pistol and demo it from my perspective of ownership. The mount by the way, is not perfect, but perfectly serviceable. Lastly, there is supposed to be an app, but I can’t find it. If NVG30 ever developed an app where you can program from your phone, or tablet, that would make this unit just about perfect - especially for the price. Really lastly, I’d also love at some point to pair this with a thermal. I’m almost wondering if adding thermal 1x to a bridge, might make the NVG30 close to perfect for home security.
