One suggestion I have for improvement if you're in an area where gophers and other critters often get into and live in garden boxes is to staple down a hardware cloth grid on the bottom. In some places that's a must if you don't want pests literally eating your plants from below.

I would love to know your take on raised beds vs improving your soil to hopefully (eventually) plant in the ground? I'm so torn!

Also, I've been told to lay down cardboard to prevent weeds, but that would prevent the idea of improving your soil, no?

Sheet mulching is a very good way to improve your soil... over time! The cardboard and the mulch you lay down will break down over time, which will help amend your soil. But short term? You're just killing weeds. We'll be doing a video on raised beds vs. old-school ground planting soon! Thanks for watching!

I can’t find the right sized 3.5in wide pickets. How can I modify either with extra 5.5in pickets or 5/8 in. x 3-1/2 in. x 3-1/2 ft. pickets?
