Aw man, that explains why the solarizing alone last year didn’t work for me. Bermuda grass is the devil!! I think the previous owners of our house seeded it for the lawn. I’ve dug it up solarized and it still grew back. Are there any alternative sprays to glyphosate that will possibly work?

Sprays are pretty brutal and we try to stay away as much as possible! With the REALLY tough grass we would recommend scraping the top layer of soil, then solarizing with black plastic during the hottest months of the summer. The black plastic is pretty much going to nuke anything under it, but the downside is that the beneficial soil microbes are going to die as well. You'll have a bit of amending to do to get your soil health back for sure!

Why isn't 'fossil fuels' also listed as a con for sod cutting? The emissions of going to the hardware store (and possibly having to rent a truck if you have a small car) and then using the machine that runs off gas and doesn't burn clean like cars
