Radios are one of the most important items for any prepper, outdoor enthusiast, hiker or todays minuteman. It seems there's a heightened likelihood of civil war, civil unrest or political unrest and radios could save your life!
The baofeng is by far the most popular radio on the market. Here I'll show you my setup, how I have these radios programmed and you'll even see the amazing ranges I get.
I use radios daily, for hiking, fishing, camping and off-roading. I always use a push to talk while driving, and while training at the range or with other range enthusiasts. I also own a boat shop so having radios programmed with VHF allow my customers to contact me while they are out on the water.
Radios can be a lifesaving tool so there for you need to get familiar with what your radios can do. And that my friends comes from practice. Also downloading CHIRP is not a bad idea. Its free! There are other great KZbin channels out there like ‪@TheNotaRubicon‬ you can watch to se how to get these radios up and running. This video is more of your introduction, and a tool to find the gear I use. Links below! Please Subscribe!

GRMS is a license that costs $35 dollars. Tech license for HAMs isn’t much, $25, lasts ten years I believe. People are adults. They can decide what risks they want to take on. Use extreme caution with emergency services frequencies, they do prosecute. They are also one of last to go down in a grid down scenario. They have hot hook ups for diesel and stand by ready reserve tanks to keep the public safety repeaters online / powered. It’s local high priority assets…I will note a HAM license does not give access to use it either.

They do prosecute if you’re using those frequencies for anything other than emergency uses. Ham licenses are completely stupid and they are only for ham operators to feel better about themselves.

@@The_Outdoorsman Yes and no. You can cause a lot of havoc / interference with the same equipment that Extra Class privileges have…Knowing how to use it, forcing them to learn or self regulating the debate will always be there and you of course are entitled to your opinion. Licensing isn’t going anywhere and we have see what happens when people go crazy. I know what unregulated illegal supped up CB rigs do… Operating on Simplex is common, unlikely to get complaints although possible, it’s done on pretty much every milsim / paintball field with the AR152 and UV5R. It’s done all the time with Ukrainian and Russian forces as well in real world tactical situations. Hard to suppress although easily intercepted. It’s likely Broad spectrum jammers are utilized by both sides.

@The_Outdoorsman I treat the HAM license as a admission slip to learn radios. I have met with my local HAM club, and learned a lot from them, have done POTA, and from Texas with their big base radios they are able to reach Greece. Make friends with your HAM clubs, some of them are like minded, and have great radio equipment

I also have the AR152 which is the military version of the Harris PRC152 Falcon III that the military uses. I can do digital over analog radios just like the military. The best thing is it at less than 1/4 of the cost of the Falcon III. Great job!

When this radio was released most people (hams) did not like it, but I think the battery life alone makes it worth, even if it is a simple "UV 5R" hardware. Getting a radio with spare batteries probably cost more.

Where I live all the agencies went to 800mhz encrypted trunk radios. I don't believe I can get even a scanner that would pick up their frequency. Wish I could would love to have one.

Gear: Btech pro GMRS . Has GPS, texting, and dtmf. Hunting application. GPS is good to see wherever team members are at in the party. Texting is awesome. When you really want to be silent and have no service, you can send text msg ( no pictures ). I do pair it sometimes with sr112 to have a simplex repeater (message storage device) for longer reaech or rely message.

@The_Outdoorsman
@The_Outdoorsman 3 ай бұрын
Well I’m certainly not an expert. I will say radios that will handle encrypted comms are about 25,000 each with a network. So stick with the radios I have here and just tinker around with stuff. That’s all I did, mucked with it till I figured it out.

Brother, when I first got into this I didn’t know shit either 😂. I wish there was a guide i could show you, but I didn’t use one, I literally just figured it out. You can too.
