Congratulations on teaching your kids how to work out a budget as well as cooking skills , I think these sort of things would be great if they were taught a school ( I was taught how to cook at school in the 60’s , as well as my mother )

Pat yourself on the back! You are teaching your children some great life skills that will stand them in good stead as they mature. They all look so confident in the kitchen, they'll never go hungry! Well done, all of you.

What a wonderful mother you are, great skill sharing and teaching. They say that a job of a parent is to put yourself out of a job. They will be independent individuals able to cope with life.

😊kitchen pros- musical kitchen pros at that!! I chuck the pumpkin in the microwave for a couple of minutes to soften...makes it so much easier to chop....mind you it is a lot of fun smashing it on the concrete too. Awesome recipes🎉THANKS!
@CheaperWaysNZ5 ай бұрын
haha thanks! Next time I might let the kids try smashing it on the concrete (can guarantee it would have ended in disaster if I tried to film that!) 😂

I absolutely love that you are teaching your kids the maths behind the cooking. I learnt to do it from you about a year ago and I’m 56 😂😂😂. Such a wise thing to do

Fabulous idea! My homeschooled 14 year old will heat himself a pizza for brunch most days, because he can just set a timer and get on with doing what he needs to do. Seemed reasonable since he was combining meals, to buy him the budget ones. But heck, if he just belts out a batch once a week, that can save me $15/week ($60/month; $750/year)!!! And he can learn to batch cook. (Don't worry, his dinner is always much healthier than pizza, haha. I'm sure someone online will be upset at me for allowing pizza every day 😂😂)

Hey sometimes you just have to go with what's easy, and there's probably much worse things he could be eating lol ... at least he's catering for himself that's great!

Awesome vid Sarah! Teaching those kiddos such fantastic values. Just shared it with my daughter, my wee grandson is only 17 months old but never too young to start learning such important skills! Life hack for dealing with pumpkins… chuck the whole pumpkin in the oven and bake at roughly 160-170c for 1-1.5 hours depending on size. Pumpkin can then be cut & peeled super easily and already pre roasted for yummy flavour for the soup! X

Oh that's not silly doing the pumpkin that way! Yeah I had my kids sitting on the bench making muffins with me as soon as they could - it's a good wee entertaining activity for them as preschoolers too 😊

Great vid. I will show my kids this- I couldn't cook a thing when I left home- had never made a single meal (I think I thought my flat mates might just do the cooking 🙂)
@CheaperWaysNZ5 ай бұрын
haha yeah I was similar ... when I left home I could make beans on toast or bacon & eggs, that was pretty much it 😂 I never really thought about nutrition until I had kids to take care of!

If you have tomatoes in garden I always put sliced tomato under cheese topping sprinkle if your family likes tomato I have even put a layer of silver beet or spinach from garden as a mid layer😊
@CheaperWaysNZ5 ай бұрын
Oh yeah I love tomatoes! We decided for this challenge not to use anything in the garden, as that's something not everyone can do, but normally I raid all sorts from the garden especially leafy stuff to dice up and throw in everything 😀👍
