I love going to estate sales that are not advertised, that is where the bargains are for sure. Went to one a few years back and it turned out to be a $20 push, pull, or drag sale. The family that was there were of a certain religion and had a lady that hit every store sale she could. Needless to say I was in a PT Cruiser and that poor thing hauled completely full purses, bolts of clothe, and whatever else I could find that would fit including my moms lap in the passenger seat. Made out like bandits there. lol Have a great day and safe travels

Hi. George, regarding the embroidery pieces, sometimes the "stiff" feeling is they have been starched to gold the ironing job....I use this when I do my vintage dresser linens. I need the Pink PYREX!!

Our estate sale ended up being terrible. I deliberately parted with a lot of things and left them behind to be sold. I was in NC when it took place - and it broke my heart. Almost a year later and I am still depressed over it and have pretty much stopped watching videos because I keep seeing stuff I owned and lost. He told me it was going to be such a good sale. It wasn't/

It's difficult to not get the return you expected. Especially if you let go of items that meant something to you. It demonstrates the validity of George's observation that choosing a dealer/estate liquidator with a proven track record is important.

Good evening, George. Those prices were mind-blowing! It sure seems she shorted the family some money, by not advertising properly. I'd have grabbed every one of those doilies. I use those things like mad. That brown drip piece looked like Canonsburg's _Carefree_ pattern. I have a juice set in that pattern, and the tumblers are double-use. Flipped upside down, they are egg cups. I really like the ice crusher you got. I had a '72 Mustang Mach 1...never plan to own another Mustang. I spotted a book title _Krakatoa_ at the thrift store I would've had to grab. That 1890 secretary desk was interesting. Never seen one like that. Is the dragonware popular now? I've never cared for it. I have two of the _Iris and Herringbone_ water sets - one clear and one marigold. I wanted the older clear, along with the newer marigold examples. That portrait cake plate would've come home with me. Love those things. Great deals! Thanks for taking us along!
@TheAntiqueNomad5 сағат бұрын
Wow! My sister had a '71 Mach I, what a great car. You had to be pretty hip and cool to have one of those. Dad had a '66, it was a fun drive but so prone to fishtailing that it wasn't a great car. I can't believe how cheap that sale was! I think you're right about Canonsburg, there's so many drip brown glazes...I like the egg cup/tumbler combos, always thought that was smart! Dragonware has adherents among younger people because dragons are such a dominant theme in fantasy world games and movies. I shoud've gotten you those doilies, I thought they felt thick and a little synthetic though, darn! I've been looking for you. I like the Iris and Herringbone a lot, and I knew the portrait plate was too pretty to leave. Thanks for watching, it was a lot of fun!

@@TheAntiqueNomad I traded that '72 Mustang I had in on a '64 Impala. Mustangs, to me, are built cheap, but they're priced high. I never plan to own another one. Those prices, at the estate sale, were unbelievably cheap. It would've been worth getting even the tissues from there. That brown drip dish looked like it had the "eye" in the pattern. That's a distinction Canonsburg's _Carefree_ has the others don't I like my little juice set. I've wondered about the popularity of Dragonware. It has never appealed to me much, but if it has lithophanes in the pieces, it does catch my interest. There have several times I've had chances to buy tea sets in the pattern, but I've always passed on them - they didn't have lithophanes. If the doilies weren't old ones, I likely wouldn't have bought them, either. Some of the thick ones don't do so well, as far as stability, for tumblers. If you bought the portrait cake plate, and still have it, I'd definitely be interested in getting it from you. Mom loved old portrait pieces, and I've added some to her bedroom. That was, indeed, a fun premier! It isn't too often you come across a sale like that one!

I wish I'd seen this sale, but if I knew she presold I might have skipped it too. I'm a jewelry buyer and chances are a dealer got in there first and bought anything I'd have wanted. That's why it was all ho-hum. I've hit a few of those sales where "oh we had to make money so we sold all of the "good" stuff already".... why waste my time. I've gone to a few and they didn't even leave a can of Who Hash.
