This has been a fun series so far and this episode is no different. We finally get some walls on our budget overland trailer as well as add some structure inside.
She is going to be heavy but durable and I think over all this will still be super affordable compared to what else is available in the overland trailer market.

I'm thinking once you get the trailer up on the 6" wheel chocks and start using it, the table is going to be too tall. Mine was the same on my M1101 build, and ended up moving it lower. Especially if you want to use a Partner Stove of anything on top of it. Love where you are going with this so far. Looks amazing. Maybe you can include a 270° cheap awning from overland pros and add your shower and potty setup on the other side. Looking great Nate!

I completely agree this table is going to be tall. I'm trying to decide on how to deal with that. The issue is if I move it lower I will need to change the shape. I will brainstorm on this while I build my wifes gladiator next week 👊

I thoughtbthe dame exact thing. Also I'd add side access to the fridge . Back home in Australia they have fridge holders that pull out and drop. It would make it easier to get wuick access to the fridge thile travelling. If you wanted a slide out kitchen that runs across the front would solve multiple issues at once giving you a full slide out kitchen that locks away then the back section could open up from the top aswell for access to storage from the rear.

Build is looking excellent🍺👍 Lots of comments on the table height and rear access. I'm a yes on rear a access door. Also, I would think reaching into the pantry hole with the depth of that table could be tricky for the vertically challenged. Just my opinion though and not a criticism👍👍

Diamond plate would look nice but keeping it light weight to me at least is more important. As far as the door for the rear I’d consider putting it on the driver side rear. Pulling stuff out of that small hole in the back can be a nightmare.

Expanded metal table is great… definite rear door. You could put an “open door” warning light on the front of the trailer that you could see in the rear view of a tow vehicle for safety

This has been a great build so far. I have enjoyed the videos! I'm on the fence with the expanded metal. It wouldn't be budget friendly, but I would see about a stainless table top in some way. Expanded metal tends to be kinda sharp and potential for rust, which wouldn't be good for an area where your prepping food.

Rear door…absolutely yes, easy access to gear in the rear. Expanded metal table? Love it, clean up will be so easy, only issue is if you are camped for an extended period the food that will inevitably fall through could attract animals. Love the build so far.

I actually question the cleanability of it tho. It's cleanable when you have a hose nearby eith infinite water but at camp you can't simply wipe it down. Has an upside and downside for sure. Maybe a plastic sheet of some sort as an inlay can solve that

Great episode, love watching your concepts come to life. I would suggest a stainless table top, easier to clean and more food safe. Back door for sure, climbing in to get gear is gonna get annoying pretty quick. Great T designs!

I agree that the expanded metal will clean a lot easier for a table and drain out too as it rains every now and then in the PNW. However, the diamond plate would look rad and give you a flat surface to prep and cut on. With the expanded metal you’d be using a series of cutting boards and surfaces that bits of food and other kitchen messes would fall through. What if you did a diamond plate with a big plasma cut DL logo cut into it for the outside. Then the inside you cut up one of those tailgate food grade cutting boards to fit. Make it removable to clean etc and bobs your uncle. That’s inspiration I got at least watching this video! Keep up the awesome work Nate!

Expanded metal is "grate" but small things will fall through. Better flat stainles steel. You can still hose it out. For a sink, consider a stainless steel bowl shaped boating sink. When you fold down the table, the water taps are where the sink WAS when folded up. Sink stopper is a plastic ball valve, drain is a removable hose. Thanks for the videos. Jon

The expanded steel looks great and is light, but there's a reason no kitchens or restaurants have tables with holes. I'd try to prep on it, gonna get messy. Also it's not flat so small items won't stay level. I'd definitely have a rear door. Remember some cars had the gas cap behind the license plate? Put the handle behind it for a stealth look.

Great build so far Nate! I think a rear door is a great idea just from the standpoint of accessing the stuff in the back without having to move the stuff in the front and crawling in there. I think your definitely on the right track with everything and I love watching it come together! I have always had a similar build style.

Expanded metal table is perfect. When it gets muddy you can use the water sprayer up there to do a quick rinse off. Also, rear door for sure. In kinda think one one the driver’s side would be nice down the road. Love this series, Nate. Thank you!

I think a door in the back is a good idea. And also I think the expanded metal was a great idea. Easy to clean and serves its purpose. If you ever need a more solid surface you could use a silicone mat to lay on the expanded metal. Great build so far. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Rear door absolutely! As far as the table goes I like the expanded metal. Allows for a place for dishes and other things to dry. Absolutely love how this is turning out and can’t wait to see the finished product. It’s definitely giving me a lot of ideas for my build.

The table top is good the way it is. Looks good, light, and it's done already. Leave it my dude. You will kick yourself if you don't put a door in the back. If you want want make sure you don't drive off with the door open, you can wire a normally open switch in the back to a little led signal light on the front. When the door is open the light is on.

Firstly, loving the trailer build. I think it to be a great design. Like the table top idea, especially the expanded steel for ease of cleaning. I think a rear door would be great, for storing parts and/or tools. Easy to get to and out of the way. Keep up the amazing fabrication. Always a joy to watch and learn from your ideas!

Three things Nate: 1. You can never have enough doors 2. Yes, go with a diamond plate tabletop. You'll be kicking yourself when that meatball or shrimp falls through the hole onto the ground. 3. You might want to consider not putting a cable to hold up the table near the fridge. It might get in the way as you 're taking stuff out of the fridge to put it on the table. Maybe use a support from underneath the tabletop instead. I'm enjoying this series. Like you, I make changes as I go along, which includes stupid mistakes.

I like the expanded steel table. Also a door on the back is crucial, I think, especially with the slanted back. You can open the back and throw odd shaped gear like sleeping bags, trash, etc. in the back for easy access

Gotta love getting done in the garage for the day, pouring a beer and seeing Nate has a new episode. HDPE would be sweet for the food prep surface. Maybe you could get a few cheap cutting boards and screw them down to the frame. I was thinking about how to seal between them, but then decided a 1/4" gap makes a lot of sense for drainage, then you don't need to worry about trying to make the surface continuous. Some of the cutting boards are outrageously priced, but you need to look for something that hasn't been FDA or NSF approved for a commercial kitchen. HDPE isn't UV resistant so you can apply a coat of paint to the bottom side that will get sun when the table is stowed. Maybe leave a section of expanded steel for your stove. You'll regret it if you don't add a rear door. Think of all the things you could stash in there and have access to quickly from the rear. Giggity.

Another great video Nate! I think adding a door to the back is a great idea. Maybe put in a shelf to keep it separate from the rest of the interior. Also had a thought that you could add a drop down hatch below it and use struts or braided cable to support it. This would give access to the area below the new shelf. Last thought is you could add a slide to one or both sections to make gear access easier. You make Sundays great!!!

Yes, definitely put a door on the back! Have you thought about making it another flip down table? You can never have too many tables when camping. On the other table, love it, but I would have mounted it lower to where it rests on the tire for support and once the trailer is on chocks it won't be too high. Love this project!

Best reuse and vast improvement of a inferior item video seen in a long while. On the table nice job with expanded metal. Get 2 piece of UHMW(fancy stone plastic) to fit table. For cleaning fish and other large meal prep.

Originally as a cook I would have wanted a solid table but after seeing what it looks like, I like the look and it will be more aerodynamic as you are driving down the road. The expanded metal is brilliant for a table top! Alot of people will disagree but for an offroad build it helps with cleanup ten fold. I'm behind on this build so I not sure the next stage but a good idea for the fridge and storage boxes would be a slide out base/table that they sit on to make the access quicker and easier. Overall excellent build! This project has helped me in my pursuit of ideas for the innovation of my projects I have ahead of me. Thanks for the hard work and the ideas you have given me from your creative point of view! Helps me narrow down exactly how my creative ideas will fit my needs without as many roadblocks or speed bumps getting in the way of the creative process

I have 2 dr Rubicon so with such a low towing capability pretty much every decision I make is based on weight. I like the expanded steel idea for weight reduction yet very strong.

Re do table top in ally diamond plate, flush with the top, makes it easier to clean in the trail. The easier mud and water can enter the easier it can stay, that's why the extruded panel you have used is a pain, because you can't clean it without a hose or effort as apposed to the diamond you can clean with a rag and bottle of water. Also, hole at the front and use a cabin filter, positive air will stop dust and water easily getting in... You can also use drop stays to keep the table level, house kitchen hardware... Might be ugly but it's more reliable than braid because it won't catch something and get ripped off. Love your work bro, your an inspiration ❤

Definitely yes to a rear door. Id also do some kind of delrin or that cutting board material, cut to fit snuggly in the frame of the table. Either full length or partial length, maybe multiple pieces to make it modular. It'll make a perfect working surface. And you can tack in some angle iron to the ceiling of the trailer as a track to slide it into to keep it clean, safe, and out of the way. Fold the table down, pop open the back door, slide out the table top, and sit it on the table.

I just got into fabricating and watching your work flow really helps me. Table looks awesome. Like other comments think it’s too high. Maybe make to the shape of the lower body panel (much more work) and have it rest just above the tire. Definitely add the door, having access to gear and cross ventilation will make life much easier. Creativity is where it’s at! I built a 5x8 enclosed trailer as a prototype. Lift. 31” mud terrains. Extended tongue. 36”x18”x18” tongue box that houses my two 100 amp hour batteries and all of my electrical. Fuse panel, 110v inlet for shore power or geni and outlets inside, solar input for batteries and input off added 7way for charging while driving. My 12v system runs inside led strips and outside leds, 12v roof vent and cigarette plug with usb plugs for my 12v fridge/freezer. Fully insulated and finished inside. Set up with a diesel heater which I’ve slept in at -15f at an inside temp of 65. Fabricated spare tire mount on the front and stabilizers in back. Roof rack. I have side boxes on the exterior that hold grills axes etc and folds down as tables. I am going to swap them out for a rigid molle panel on each side so I can swap out what I mount to it. Either pelican cases of various sizes fuel/water rotopax etc. These builds are sooo much fun and the shies the limit. Actually the only limit is your imagination. Love your creativity and attention to usability and detail. Keep up the videos.

This thing is turning out awesome! 1. Don't go diamond plate as the bumps are a pain for setting glasses on the table. 2. That table height may be too high when you drive up on the ramps to get the RTT above head height. And if you need to lower the hinge point to get the table down to a good wrking height you can make a taller (deeper) table as well. 3. Hatch in back is good. You don't want to have to unload stuff to get to stuff. The more doors/hatches the better.

My vote would be to rebuild the table using HDPE either marine board for UV or cutting board. Still easy to clean, and very light. The expanded steel will absolutely rip your hands up if you are doing things with it in the dark. Those sharp edges have bit my fingers many times in the past, when I use my small utility trailer for ATV/camp. Great videos, keep it up Nate🤙

I say yes to the rear door/hatch as without it you'll be sending a kiddo up in there to grab stuff. I'm thinking like bulky items like chairs, awnings, folding tables, sleeping bags/blankets/pillows all are easy to just throw into that area. Loving the build so far.

I like the expanded metal table for weight and easy clean up. If you decide on diamond plate you can use aluminum diamond plate, still lightweight and it won’t rust. And a definite yes to a rear door.

The table: Love the expanded metal. As you said easy to clean and spills will keep on going. I don't like the rim on the top of the table ( would have had it on the bottom). Having to "confine" things within the space on top will be a pain the way it is. The back: Yup a door. Speaking of doors I would redo the front door and put the hinges on the bottom. It would act as another surface (always handy) and you may to be able to avoid the expense and weight of gear sliders/trays (as I thought you were planning). Put the spare and other camp accessories on the "blank" right side. Having said that...I would not have commented unless you asked. Love your thinking and your build skills. And your wife's design skills rock too.

For the water use an outdoor spigot. The kind you would hook your garden hose to. Then thread on to it a handheld shower head and hose. A little clip on the side to hold it to wash dishes and with the hose you can use it to wash the kids down. Double use. When in travel you can unscrew it from the spigot and stow it away so it doesn't get damaged

As I’ve said in previous comments on this series I’m going to be curious what the total weight ends up being, especially in comparison to “Store Bought” trailers of the like. Idea: make rear angled piece fold down with molle panel or other mounts for tools, recovery gear, first aid, etc. Also provide added interior access to a special area, with drain hole, for storage of wet/muddy gear.

Awesome build! The back gate will be a great addition to access the rear of the trailer. For the side table, I'd suggest adding some wood. It give you that flat surface we always need plus it'll give you a surface to prep your food on.

Expanded 👍🏼just spray it off and go, plus cooking spills have little to no cleanup. And absolutely a door in the back I think you'll regret having to climb in to get stuff in the back. Love the build keep it up.

I like it ! As far as the table I would consider covering half with a plastic cutting board, you can get large ones at any restaurant supply and cut it to size. Yes to the back door, you don't want to have to crawl in just to grab a bag.

Expanded metal also doubles as a drying rack AND gets rid of the need for sink/drain for your wash station. And yes, add a door. You will never regret access.

Keep the expended metal table. Easy cleanup because the yucky stuff will just fall thought. Now having some type of rad insert when you need a solid table top is in order. Yes do a diamond plate rear door. Great blend of off road adventure and fab projects.

Do a rear door with a pressure switch to a light on the front of the trailer box. When the door is open a small 3/4" odd color (purple, bule, green, white ?) lights up to "remind you" the door is open. Or, to lock the door open you must use the hitch pin that locks the trailer to the vehicle towing it. My $0.02 worth. Love the builds love the channel.

Nate a very entertaining build. A rear door is a must it will increase you usable space for soft item storage once the hard boxes are in. I have been using a Dometic 40 litre for more than ten years now it replaced an Engel that I have had since 1993 still works now a bar fridge in the man cave. Both fridges have seen most of the Australian outback. I really can not fault either.

Another yes vote for a rear door, maybe a barn door style like the old Chevy Suburban. I think the side table is great, but if I were you I’d make sure to bring a chopping block or cutting board, some flat surface that food won’t fall through. Expanded metal, cleaning, weight, design 👍👍👍 If you don’t put a door in the back your kids better not grow or who is going to crawl in behind the cooler area and get the stuff from the bag that didn’t get zippered shut. Put a light switch on the door with a small LED on the front that you can see in the drivers side mirror, if it’s on the door is open.

Yes an access hatch on the back would be a good idea. Maybe you could have some kind of reflective material on the back hatch that you can see from the driver's side mirror that would show you it is open.

Yes on rear door. Table is good. Expanded metal is easy to clean, though you will need several poly 1/2 in thick cutting boards to put down for stoves, etc..

Turning out great, really inspiring Nate. +1 on expanded steel over the diamondplate, and I think a rear door/hatch holds a lot of benefits and is worth doing. Looking forward to the next one, awesome series!

A buddy and me are kicking this around also. Wanting to build us one. Yeah! You get it built and use it once and wished you would have done something different. Argh! Yes you should do that door in the rear. It will make access a lot easier. I think the expanded steel was a great idea for the drop table. I do think you missed an opportunity on the other side of that water tank to install another tank for more water, fuel, etc. Can't wait to see the next episode!
