I used both Amaran and Colbor. I really like Colbor's form factor, mount and rails. Amaran has advantage of the eco system, so I'm switching to them. If it were just about these two, I would go with Colbor. Amaran's advantage of ecosystem will even increase, quite drastically. Aputure recenty acquired Prolycht, a company with their own lights, but more importantly, they have really thought up and advanced color science. Prolycht also provided Dedolight with their color engine and cooperation will continue, most likely there will be direct cooperation between Dedolight and Aputure.

Thank you for testing brightness properly and also discussing how much brightness you really need for a scene!!!

What is the most amount of sunlight you'd be able to use these lights with? Or how would you think about using one of these lights if you also have daylight in the scene?

I wish seen this video before... I bought the amaran, but, today, I would bought the colbor, because I want to buy the cl220 and cl330 and do a Colbor Light Ecosystem, that is way cheaper than a Amaran Light Ecosystem... Just for that

Yah, that makes sense. The Colbor stuff is hard to beat at the prices. I was actually very surprised, I expected the build quality, or light quality, to be poor, given the price, but I can’t fault it.

Great review! Thank you! I was thinking about buying the Colbor Cl60r, but now I might choose the Amaran 60xs because of the mounting bracket. I want to mount the light on a ball head :/

The G60 is great, but after owning it for a while, the bowens mount absolutely sucks. Plastic, and broke already. Not great. Gonna buy the 60x now.

Watt is actually a great way to compare the brightness, just look at the bare bulb test vs wattage

Interesting review on color and brightness accuracy. I appreciate the other points being made. Being more objective and using a light meter would provide more useful info. Just bought the Colbor CL60 this afternoon and have been testing it to see what I bought. At 6,500 k setting, the measured CCT is 5,810 k, with Lumu light meter, and a meter away. Lux. is @ 1,833 lx, less than 2,082 lx advertised on their site. To make it close to the daylight 6,500 k, one needs to crank the green all the way to +10, max., in the settings. But, if you don't have a light meter, you are clueless on what you are seeing. At 2,700 k setting, the measured CCT is 2,630 k, with 1,419 lx. CCT is much closer at this setting. If you are a foot way from the LED, the CCT is better, but still falls short at 6,110 k, when set for 6,500 k. Lux. is at 21,220 lx in this situation. I was reading on their site that the CRI is at 97+. I just don't see that happening in this situation. Guess this thing will be going back to Best Buy.

You really need a spectrometer to know this with any real accuracy. They cost $2000, and I don’t have one, if you’re testing with the in-camera custom white balance, the accuracy tends to be highly variable and something you can’t really trust. Best best is to find a review that tested with a spectrometer.

True. Others use such equipment in video and photo editing rooms, where light is important, as well. Some might not have a camera, or even a light meter. I do know that my light meter out in bright daylight it reads almost spot on, with +/-100 k, so I trust what it measured in this case. Was really looking forward to using the light, but will have to go back. @@markwiemels

Great comparison. One thing I noticed you didn’t mention was the swivel stand/mount on the zhiyun. Could that be used to mount to a light stand? Also how do these compare to the Godox ML60bi. I currently use them to light weddings and they are mostly good but one has stopped working after a year so I’m looking at a replacement.

What would be good light stands for these lights? I’m considering mainly the Amaran or Colbor, but I can’t find any info on what stands are recommendable.

I saw a review of the Amaran 60x showing a horrible (half) battery life compared to similar 60w models (Godox, Nanlite). Did you test anything about battery life maybe?
@markwiemels

I didn’t test that. It’s a good question to ask.

Just in time was thinking of Colbor 60 for my YT setup. Can you also add Ulanzi 40w in comparison next time as these 60 watts are overkill for small studio especially when you want 2, to illuminate both sides equally. Thanks for the comparison.

These aren't really over kill though. They should probably go through modifiers and get negative fill to prevent spill.

I will say this is the best comparison on KZbin for these portable cobs! not only you compare the light without reflector, you also add a proper bowen softbox for the measurement AND you even compare the size with their stand and bowen adapter! Thank you so much! also have you try Nanlite FS-60B? not a small light but still compact, plus it's cheaper than Godox sl60s and can be controlled by bluetooth app, kinda underrated
@markwiemels
@markwiemels Жыл бұрын
So kind of you to say. The thing about lighting videos, on KZbin, is that they are hard to do well, and even when you do, the views are not great. So they rarely repay the time the take to make. All these lights have app control now, I should have mentioned it. The Nanlite stuff is great, but does tend to cost more. The FS-60 is very highly regarded.
@masadamofu
@masadamofu Жыл бұрын
@@markwiemels agree I think KZbin algo put the lighting stuff behind other gear idk why... anyway I guess since all these light have common strength the colbor with pd powerbank/npf plate is the sweet spot!

The brightness is a factor for me because I use the light as a bounce light off a ceiling where the white ceiling is the diffuser. Works great in hotel rooms with the ladies...

this video was made in 2023..still use laptop charger? for high wattage power supply? come on.. there are so many mini 65w GaN charger. for anything under 65w is so small and slim. you can carry 6of 65w charger for the size of G60 light itself. no one carries stupid bulky laptop charger anymore…it’s mean quite while….do some research on type c power supply or charger. I have 275w type c 8port charger and it out puts 65w for multi port. and it 1/3 size of zhiyun G60. it can power up 4 G60 lights at the same time.

That’s the purpose of the sample footage, so everyone can see the results. I can’t pick them apart, and even the manufacturers rating of the lights are so close that I wouldn’t expect there to be any obvious difference.

The thing ist the Lightquality below 20% Output. Most budget light tend to be horrible at low outputlevels. The Molus G60 ist one of them. There is no point using it a very low power setting. The Interface of the Molus is better than statef here. It also got Quick Settings if you just press the knobs down. And a fiddly Studio Mode, so the light turns on and off, if you cut Power. You should really be aware about color accuracy on low Power settings, because might dont want to use them, with a 20Watt powerbank anymore 🎉
