It's because they are in a transition period. Until they get all regions to go eSIM only, you'll still see the current approach. Once everything gets moved to eSIM only, that space will be reutilized.

The battery-release technology with electricity is incredible! I cannot wait for Apple (or someone) to figure out how to get this technology onto the front-facing screen and rear glass. A simple electric charge to remove the glass would be so much easier for everyone!

Doesn't matter when the screen costs $300. There also don't provide schematics/boardview files and neither can you buy any board level components from Apple, just overpriced assemblies. Apple structured their first party part pricing in a way that it's barely worth it to do the repair yourself.

You can run a low current through the battery adhesive to deactivate it, so you can remove the battery without finicky pull tabs or messy alcohol. I wonder if they’ll start using this tech to remove the adhesive on the front and back glass.

EU models are all philips screws and have an electrical element which you hook a battery to for the battery to be released reliably (i guess that the pull tabs aren't good enough for user repair).

I seen the reg 16 with the new battery! It actually has no adhesive strips to remove it, just one small tab that you actually have to use a 9v battery connected to the tab for a few mins that will disconnect the battery from the iphone 16! Crazy stuff!

Imagine being a iPhone just chilling on the shelf, someone comes by, picks you up and you're filled with glee for being chosen and being able to show what you can do. Once you get removed from the box you're immediately layed face down and without so much as a hello your entire backside is removed and your power source unplugged. You wake up later in the hands of an entirely different stranger and it dawns on you, you were bought just to be opened and stared at followed by being given to a new owner. You don't know if you'll ever recover but your story is one amongst millions!
