I did pretty good then after looking at this. I picked up a MY9.5 VE SS wagon off my next door neighbour for $500. The car was on jack stands since the day I moved in. He said the starter motor died in it, then he purchased a new one, but bought the wrong type (there’s two types, clip or bolt style connectors) anyway he was going to call a scrap yard to pick it up as he had bought a new car, and I told him I would give him more than the few hundred bucks he had in mind. He helped me push it next door to my house, I ordered a new starter motor and had it running the same week. I spent the next 3 months fixing everything that needed fixing (shocks, brakes, discs, hood lining, engine mounts, A/C) and then got it registered. I’ve been daily driving it for just over 6 months now. Best Buy ever! Owes me $6500 now as it sits haha!

I’m looking into at least a refresh my LS1 in my 2000 ws6. It has 187k miles and just headers, exhaust, and SLP air box. On a cold dense day it feels good and powerful I assume it makes stock power on those days. On a warm/hot day it feels a little weak on the power side. Looking at the total cost I’m thinking I’ll probably just convert to a blueprint LS3 for $2k more that will come with everything and make over 500hp with a warranty and guaranteed power number.
@MuscleCarLover3 жыл бұрын
All in all, not too bad. I don't think I've seen an LS crate motor ever go for less than about 15 grand, and this is almost half that for what is hopefully a sorted engine. Granted the crate motors are LS2s and up, but no frills, stock as a rock

Great video and I appreciate the honesty on the cost of your engine. I didn’t place a comment with my guess in time, but I was thinking approx $7k. Everyone thinks LS’s are cheap, but it still costs big money for big power and reliability. I like your engine build. 👍🏻

I did leave a comment a while back saying you can buy summit forged cranks for under 1k (no import tax to aus). You needed pistons anyway. So then all you need are the 6.125 rods, cheap ones for around $700. Then you have a 383ci. No clearancing required like the ol 5Ls. Just some washers on the windage tray to space it out. This is a forged rotation assembly with gen 4 style rods and pistons. If you didn't have the extra $1700 fair enough. But to not mention this as a cheap reliable build is not bad but average advice. If guys have used ls crank, rods and pistons which are in good nick they can be flogged for $500 and up. Put towards the 4" forged stuff. Honestly I would have skipped a bit more on the top end. Your build your choice, but another 20 guys gonna go out and rebuild with stock rotating assembly and be missing out just by not having alternative info.
@MindieJ3 жыл бұрын
then add some heads to go with it because youd be silly not to, a bigger converter again, a more serious box to handle the power ect ect......its not just "ad a crank and youve got a stroker" as for not having alternative info, LS is literally the most common engine in the modified car world, hundreds of thousands of different videos, articles, forums ect out there
@Dan-rg7jj3 жыл бұрын
@@MindieJ Stroker budget. They happen to come in forged and gen 4 style. Not suggesting that's needed. Heads? Heads are useless on the street. Those ppl are idiots who suggest that. Same thing could be said for aftermarket cam and trunnions. High stall again not a good idea unless going further. Higher diff ratio? Yes good for the street. More serious box? Camshaft and heads will kill it before stroker. Bringing the power band up. Injectors? Cam and heads = more fuel up top and more power more likely need injectors. More revs less reliability. Increasing stroke and crank length is not going to do those things simply on their own.
