Good to see a video from you again, Tom, just started watching it, and it already looks like an absolute beast of a PC. You're welcome again for the parts, and I am definitely keen to see what you have got planned for the A320. i think it's amazing what people throw on eBay for parts/repairs, and I think it's an absolute steal that you got that B550 board working for the price you got, and it will support the 3600 really well too. On that note too, it's definitely good to see the used market now recovering (especially in the GPU world considering how high it was during 2020/21). Thanks for the video! 🙂

Hope you and family are well Tom, good to see you're still making content and doing tech stuff when you can. This one was interesting as I've been thinking about building a budget PC lately. I've switched to Apple Silicon but need X86 windows for a couple of things. Trying to decide whether to build something or buy one of those little Dell Optiplex things used. 1 constructive thing, and I will be in the minority here, but I prefer the stereo camera mics.
@ItsMyNaturalColour Жыл бұрын
We're all well thanks, hope you are too! I was in a similar position in work, ended up picking up 2 HP Elitedesk PCs from eBay. They're tiny, cheap and seem to be doing really well. Slightly out of date prebuilt systems, especially proprietary stuff from Dell, HP etc are all dirt cheap. It would've cost me a lot more to build the same machine even from used parts. Thanks for the heads up on the audio too. I know exactly what you mean. I prefer the more natural sound of the camera mics, but not having all that static noise with this mic is quite the improvement I feel, for me during editing anyway I've noticed a bit of relief on the high end when using headphones. It's easier for me to control levels too, but it is definitely a compromise as it's far more clinical now and not as real. It's not very IMNC is it.

I've built quite a few Modern Intel and Ryzen systems, I use to use some older monitor to set stuff up, quickly found out the monitor did not like the resolution the bios displayed at, That lead me down a RMA path that I didn't need to go down as a different monitor I tried did the same thing, I found that most modern monitors will usually be fine, but not all older monitors, On my work bench I now use this 2007 era HP monitor that seems to work with everything so far. So if you come crossed another issue where you get no display, Some chance that the monitor just don't like the bios resolution.

Thanks for the heads up! Good to know. I am looking for a more modern monitor for my test setup. Hoping to find just a simple 24" 1080p monitor with HDMI and DisplayPort. I'm keeping my eye on marketplace.

my2cents on this video: 1) if you want to short the bios jumpers or anything in general, power needs to be on in order to short it how do you want to short something that has no power? 2) the power supply fan blows some how warm air straight to the GPU fans. That's not ideal espacially when gaming! 3) I think you'll need at least a 360 radiator to cool this CPU and the 5700 XT to proper temps. besindes that, nice vlog like alwalys 🙂
@ItsMyNaturalColour Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! 1) You are probably right, I just always presume with CMOS battery installed there's a small trickle in the board to perform BIOS level stuff. Removal of the CMOS battery should do the same thing anyway. 2) ATX PSU fans are always intakes, so it will draw warm air from the case and exhaust out the back of the PSU. It won't blow on the GPU. I generally prefer fan side down as it separates the PSU thermals almost entirely from the case, but using the PSU as an additional exhaust is not very detrimental. Fan side up was chosen in this instance for looks only. The only real detriment is the PSU receives warmer air (case temp) as apposed to fresh air from outside the case, but if there are a lack of exhausts in the system this could also work to the benefit of the overall case temp. It's negligible if it makes much difference to PSU performance. When PSUs were common place in the top of cases, PSUs with 120mm fans would always face the case internals, and exhaust hot air. 3) Definitely. I'm really hoping that I can squeeze in 2x 240mm rads, one in the top and one in the front. That's the plan anyway. If not, I'm hoping at minimum to squeeze in 1x 240mm in either front or top, and 1x 120mm.

Only about halfway through but I have to say about the Ebay thing. I got six really nice Yealink office phones from their T4X line for a £1 (they usually go for £20-40 each) because they were pick up only and locked behind and Admin password. I was lucky enough to have the recovery firmware avalilbe to me and I now own 6 nice office phones for next to no money. Ok, this was amazing to see and slightly creepy for timing. the Wife and I started a new project of converting our Garage into a theater room with projector and such. I referred to your living room revamp a while back about ceiling mounting, a day later, you drop a video. "Speak of the devil and he shall arise" funny how it works. Also, I wonder what it costs to ship a cpu from the US to the UK... I have a R3-3200G and a R5 Pro 2400G sitting idle

Sounds like an awesome project, hope it's going well! My projector hasn't fallen down yet, so that's one comforting update if you've used anything from that video 😂 I wonder! Maybe if you're looking to sell either of these, drop me a little email and we can see if we can work something out? That little case is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, well clearly it’s a TARDIS. Seriously Fractal Design cases are quite nice with respect to fit and finish. However, mounting a water cooling radiator in the top typically requires an offset bracket (generally included). Therefore, if you were planning on installing a 120mm or 240mm radiator (if a 240mm would even fit) you might need said offset bracket. It’s probably better to just use the front fan intake for a radiator. Either way it looks grand, can’t wait to see the followup video(s).
@ItsMyNaturalColour Жыл бұрын
Ohhh interesting! Thanks for the heads up on this. I'll have a look into that. Haha yes absolutely, it is very much a TARDIS in this little case!

You would think that by now, motherboard makers would ensure the motherboard boots in a form of safe mode, that bypasses the CPU or GPU if it's not compatible or has an incorrect BIOS, and allow you to update the BIOS or run diagnostics in some form of GUI regardless, rather than doing things literally in the dark.

@ItsMyNaturalColour Жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure. I haven't swung by the Hackintosh community for a while, so I'm not sure what the latest is. I can hazard a guess though and say that the GPU is no good, and as it's AMD it will be much more difficult than Intel.

Personally, I'm not a fan of water cooling. My philosophy is, if you can't air cool it, you aren't moving enough air through enough metal. Water cooling can be easy to saturate with heat, and it takes a long time to give that heat up thanks to water's specific heat capacity. It's good for long-term stable loads, but it's not good for sporadic loads. If you want to cool a computer down quickly, you're not going to do it with liquid cooling. That said, liquid cooling works. You do you. I just never bothered because the gains never outweighed the effort.
@ItsMyNaturalColour Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I can understand this, as I've never struggled to cool anything with air. Same goes for this PC. I'll be water-cooling for fun, to learn, and to make a nice entertaining video for the channel. The system should also be lovely too, allowing a nice overclock and of course, eliminating all the blower noise from the flashed GPU! Oh, and can't forget looks. It won't be very practical but it will be great fun!
