The 14 is the reason I switched from Android to iOS after years of using the former. The dual e-Sim feature was a must have for me after moving from the UK to the USA. Now I have both a UK and US number on one phone. I would recommend adding your work line to your new 14 and just disable notifications for it, or disable it during non-work hours.
@ItsMyNaturalColour8 ай бұрын
I would love to be able to do this, but sadly the majority of the separation I need actually revolves around apps and accounts. If Apple offered the ability to have separate 'users' on the iPhone, each user with different logged in accounts for social media apps etc or different app sets entirely, one phone would be completely fine. Sadly I can't see them ever offering anything like that.

Tom why don’t you just add the work sim to the new phone and use both lines instead of having 2 phones, then turn off notifications on the work line Simples

good video! hopefully the 14 serves you well the idea of separating work and personal phones is an idea i've thought about with for a while, it's a lovely idea, but don't know about carrying two phones in one pocket lol. it's a shame the personal XR didn't work out for you though with all the defects in its refurbishment interesting that Three and Vodafone UK are merging though... especially as the same exact thing happened with Three and Vodafone down here in Australia in 2011! Granted, the Vodafone network down here is still less good compared to say Telstra, but I digress lol

It's definitely something that takes some getting used to. Another tricky thing is if your work life is at all weaved into your personal life, choosing what number to give to certain people is difficult.

@@ItsMyNaturalColour I agree, I nearly chose the iPhone 12, but the iPhone SE 2020 was too good of a deal to pass up, for $200 US dollars and that was with insurance, and new headphones and a new case
@JoshuaFawcett8 ай бұрын
I've had my iPhone 14 since November 22, a couple months after release, got a black friday limited deal £24 per month for 24 months with three for 100GB data utld mins/sms, worked out less than retail over the term so couldnt say no. I dont use the sim as three is incredibly poor in our area but I keep it as a spare just incase I travel. After ~18 months battery health down to 90% so slightly noticable on busy days requiring a quick top-up charge. Also just picked up an iPhone 13 from O2 from their "like new" range, voucher stack deal for £150+£20 rolling sim which I'll be cancelling within the next week or so. I plan to use as a dedicated "iPod" type device with music loaded up. Battery health 100% so I suspect it was just a cancelled contract phone reboxed and sold as refurbished. Best phones I've ever owned, no plans to get the 15 anytime in the near future, perhaps if a good deal comes up but otherwise both the 14 and 13 will stay for the forseeable future until they break.

Fantastic video Tom as ever 👍🏻 I too somewhat recently upgraded my iPhone. After 4 years of flawless service, back in January I upgraded from the iPhone SE 2020 to my current phone which is the iPhone 15 Pro and I've been loving it thus far. Cameras are phenomenal (I've even built up a filming rig for it) and I adore having USB-C on all of my devices nowadays

Great video, I’m sure the 14 will last a long time! It’s unfortunate that your second XR had so many low quality parts, I know how annoying those can be. On the bright side, you could always get something like a good condition iCloud locked one or just some genuine Apple parts and swap over the components. Been watching some older IMNC vids and it’ll be exciting to see more awesome Mac Pro action! I know how life can be, but it’s always cool to see a new upload.

This is an interesting idea. I've been wondering what to do with the XR. In its current state it's pretty much worthless.
@TheOriginalCollectorA13037 ай бұрын
I’m sure it’ll be a fun project to film also, I’ve done many iPhone related things in the past. Plus, if you manage to find a good condition XR with a lot of iPhones/iPods, it’ll be interesting to see if they work and the iOS versions. Of course iCloud is a thing still, but Apple actually has an official way of removing it. No guarantees it’ll work but it’s worth trying. As I’ve been focusing more on iTunes, my older Apple devices are getting much more use.

Ooh! I switched from a 13 mini to a 12 Pro Max a few months ago primarily because of battery, but I also got tired of the small screen to be honest… I feel like most apps don’t optimize properly for the smaller screen… very unfortunate. Nice to see a video!!!!
@ItsMyNaturalColour8 ай бұрын
I agree. It gets a lot worse too if you have quite large text size enabled. I prefer the smaller devices in my pocket and to hold, but not worth it with such a cramped feeling UI on the screen.

Sold my 14 Pro Max that I got in late 2022 and upgraded to the 15 Pro Max 1st Jan this year - it was the faffing around with USB C and lightning cables that did it for me. I had an iPad Pro M1 2021 1TB at the time and a 2020 Macbook Pro M1, both of which were USB C, whereas my iPhone was still lightning connector, faffing around with 1 charger for two devices and a whole seperate charger for the other device got irritating so I just upgraded and sold my old 14PM. Also the reason the NFC doesn't work in one of those phones no doubt is because the ribbon cable got torn. Last year I spent a bit of time buying a few iPhone X and iPhone XS's and repairing them to sell on. On one of them the NFC connector was incredibly fragile and very small, and I ended up ripping the connector off of it. I bought a replacement but because the connector is so fiddly and is difficult to align to the port due to how small it is, and that it is layered underneath other ribbon cables, I didn't bother spending hours trying to get it fixed and just sold it as a working phone without NFC. The person I sold it to bought it for his daughter and couldn't care less about NFC. I bought an iCopy tool for cloning the screen information so I was always able to get True tone and night shift functions as well as Face ID to work. For what it's worth - where I live, the London and Kent border, the cellular service is appalling and has been for 25+ years and has hardly improved. I was with Vodafone from 2017 to 2020 and left them due to poor coverage. I joined EE in 2020 and then left them last year also due to the piss poor coverage and whopping 14% price increase. As I had numerous devices (lines) with them I was paying a lot each month, in the region of £350 a month for all of the devices. The 14% price rise jumped the bill up by another £70 EXTRA, which would have taken it to £420 a month so I told them to "do one" and walked away, especially after i'd struggled with piss poor service. At my house inside and out, you'd be lucky to get 1 bar of coverage. On my entire road you got 1 bar. I used to have to drive 5 minutes up the road to send a text or make a mobile phone call... often i'd not bother and just use the landline. It used to get me in trouble with work on the odd day I'd be working from home, as a colleague would try and call me and it would go to voicemail, so they'd assume I wasn't working or was having a "lie in" when in actual fact I was working but as my phone had no coverage any call went straight to voicemail. I'm now on a Tesco Mobile (O2 network) contract and the coverage is actually a lot better.

The USB-C / Lightning thing is a pain. I only have an iPad with USB-C, the rest of my stuff (2x iPhone and AirPods) use lightning, so it's not too bad, but I will be buying a new MacBook at some point so a bit more USB-C coming in there. I'm definitely looking forward to being all USB-C in a few years time. Interesting to hear about the cause of the NFC issues, makes a lot of sense. I had absolutely zero desire to try and fix it, even without looking into it I presumed it would just be a massive headache. Glad to hear Tesco is working well for you. I was very close to pulling the trigger on a Tesco contract, but found this one at the last minute. Tesco seemed like a great option though and excellent savings with a clubcard.

This is why I'm all for Apple doing the whole component match thing. Especially when it comes to things like Apple Pay, you never know what some random third party component in there might be up to if it isn't properly certified. We have so much ultra personal data on these devices that I'm generally in favour of them being far more locked down than your classic "computer".
@ItsMyNaturalColour8 ай бұрын
Yeah definitely agreed. I think I'm pretty much done with used phones now. The bad experiences outweigh the good at this point. You're right too, it's not really an area we want to be cutting corners these days, with our lives stored in these things.
