I love this! No $50k+ Taco truck outfitted with every possible accessory - just two regular people making it work with what they have. I'm trying to do the same thing with a '97 Chevy 🙂 Keep it up!

My first 4WD truck was a 1979 Chevy Luv 4X4.... 2" suspension lift, 2" body lift. To run 31"s ... Regeared, 1.8 liter 4 cylinder. Actually, I still wish I never had sold that truck.

..... Great features you've put together there... BTW, for the past 12 or more years, and hopefully for many more, my '88 Comanche serves me well... 4.0, 5 spd, 4X4, longbed, camper shell is about 1 1/2 foot over the cab, so i can sit on my fold out bed with my hat on and not touch the ceiling, has a rear door, and the entire rear comes off... put thousands into maintaining it... so I wouldn't hesitate to drive across country and back anytime ... I'm in the mountains, in Sequoia National Forest... Regards .....

Your Comanche sounds awesome! It's neat to hear and see all of the different types of rigs out there. We always say, there's no perfect setup for every occasion, but if you find the one that works for you the majority of the time, it makes your adventure so much more enjoyable! Thanks for watching, and I hope you do take your Comanche across the country some day!

I love Jeeps and I’m a Jeep enthusiast! I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 2wd 4.0 I-6 since April 2011 and it has over 200,000 miles on it and the alternator is wearing out which is causing a parasitic drain. I’m getting that fixed in the spring along with other stuff that’s needs to be fixed on it. By the way, I love the tent on your Comanche ! I need to find one for my ‘06 Ram 1500 4x4
@campoutwestus27 күн бұрын
@@starman9458 thanks! We're big fans of these old Jeeps as well. We also have an 89 Cherokee. The tent in this video was a Smitty Built and it was a good tent. Last year we switched to inspired overland slim, lightweight tent and the jury's still out on it. Glad you're keeping your Jeep going!

On the rear end did you end up welding new pedi stools or just flip the axel 180 degrees to get your leafs on top? I’m trying to do that to my Comanche and am wondering how much work I’m looking at getting into before I start it 7:31
@campoutwestus3 ай бұрын
Yes, we welded in new spring perches in the correct position and at the correct pinion angle. I did the swap close to 20 years ago before I had a good welder, so I just tacked them into the correct position and then had a welder burn them in.

Very decent rig. This will go more places than a full size 50k plus overlander will for sure. Looks like you took care of most if not all of the weak points the Comanches have. Cool its an AX15. Manual or nothing baby!

I'm building up a 1997 Jeep Cherokee to do some overlanding. Since I've not been happy with the tire carrier options, I'd love to know more about the ones you guys used. If it fits a Commanche, I'd think it should also fit a Cherokee.

There is a link in the description, I don't think KZbin will let me post it here. It's made for a Tacoma and Body Armor's bumper, but it worked on our home made flat bumper. There might be more and better options out there for the XJ.
