Oh wow the river was dry. We crossed in a few feet of water in 2016. I've done this route twice from the other direction starting at the River.

@scottymac5174 having done it both ways, I didn't notice a difference in difficulty from one direction to the next. I'm sure wet conditions would change things significantly, but we had good weather both trips.

Hoping that you guys got through the earthquake up there OK! That fault by Ferndale/Centerville beach. Some of the biggest quakes in the USA in the past century are from around there. That was a 7.0. I remember the Loma Prieta quake down here in Santa Cruz county. A 6.8.

I was down in Capitola. My phone started doing this emergency beeping. Tsunami Warning.. evacuate to higher ground. WTF? Took me about four hours to actually what was happening. None of our local news stations.

@@scottymac5174 they evacuated downtown Eureka and other areas close to Humboldt Bay. My work is on high ground and has a backup generator, so we just went on with business as usual.

Was so cool to see Goffs Schoolhouse! And then my Grandpas portrait (a glimpse of it on the wall ) My Grandpa rescued the schoolhouse from rubble and made it his home…he hand dug water lines from the railroad tracks to the schoolhouse by hand…in his 60s!! They sold it in the early 90s to the friends of the Mojave when they needed to move closer to medical care for his wife. He had gardens and his corrrals and round pens out back where he broke horses for area ranchers…. I have memories of him on the porch at the schoolhouse playing his fiddle in the evening… Ty for the joy you gave me w that glimpse !!

I love Jeeps and I’m a Jeep enthusiast! I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 2wd 4.0 I-6 since April 2011 and it has over 200,000 miles on it and the alternator is wearing out which is causing a parasitic drain. I’m getting that fixed in the spring along with other stuff that’s needs to be fixed on it. By the way, I love the tent on your Comanche ! I need to find one for my ‘06 Ram 1500 4x4

@@starman9458 thanks! We're big fans of these old Jeeps as well. We also have an 89 Cherokee. The tent in this video was a Smitty Built and it was a good tent. Last year we switched to inspired overland slim, lightweight tent and the jury's still out on it. Glad you're keeping your Jeep going!

I've only been down to the Mohave once. Mostly Death Valley/Panamint Valley. East as far as Tonopah and up into the Humbolt Toyiabe National Wilderness. Six million acres.. Largest wilderness area in the USA outside of Alaska. One trip. This is on my bucket list to go back to.

I used to like Grape Nuts cereal.. Ule was the guy. I've always wondered if Bristlecone pine nuts are any good. The oldest living organisms on the planet. I've seen them loaded with fresh berries/nuts up in the White mountains..Never been brave enough to try them.

Absolutely no way in hell that thing was ever going to fit back into the factory supplied bag. So I got a big duffel bag off of Amazon. Also made in China. I just stuff that thing into the duffel.

So many of those old cabins are so cool! Mojave and in Death Valley. Restored and well taken care of. The challenge is finding them and getting there. Not going to happen in a Prius or a Tesla. Edit: I would say that cabin you were in was on private property. With the gate. As as you left it like you found it. Oops! Saw the guest book. A lot of time and love spent there..

There are many of those cabins scattered across the deserts in CA and NV. Many were part of mining claims. They are on government land and usually maintained by volunteers, many times off road or Jeep groups. It's customary to raise the flag when you are staying there so that others know they are inhabited. We've been to some that were well stocked with extra full propane tanks, hot water, solar battery setups ETC . You can tell that many take pride in maintaining and upgrading these historic cabins. I caught the slip up on the road, but didn't think it was worth worrying about. Thanks for watching!

Another awesome video. I'm sure most of the cinder from that mine went into making cinder blocks. Today we use concrete blocks, or CMUs (Concrete Masonry Units). Even though they haven't used cinder as the aggregate for many years, concrete blocks are still often referred to as "cinder blocks." Now you know why.
