Hello, beautiful hearts,
It's another year to start making goals! Have you started your list yet? How about creating a financial wellness goal by saving money? In this vlog, I am showing you how we manage our finances and save money using a traditional Japanese budgeting method known as Kakeibo. I'll be talking about it while baking one of my favorite Filipino snacks called Shakoy or twisted donuts! I hope you can learn something and enjoy baking with me!
If you haven't already, I hope you could be part of my small yet loving KZbin community by liking this video and subscribing to my channel. 🙏
Also, I've been uploading irregularly lately. So if you click "All" from the bell mark 🔔 button next to the Subscribe button, you'll receive notifications immediately whenever I upload!
Take care always and may your heart stay beautiful!
Love,
Dee 💛

Save Money the Japanese Way - Kakeibo Method | Financial Mindfulness for 2022 | Silent Vlog #69
👇🏻 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐲 (𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐬) 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐞:
Makes 8 (6-inch) pieces
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 ½ teaspoon active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk
1 egg, at room temperature
2 tablespoons melted butter, cooled
Coating:
1 cup white sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
Vegetable oil, for deep-frying
1. Mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix in medium speed for 10minutes.
2. Transfer the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and set aside in a warm spot (room temperature will do) to proof for 1 hour or until double in size.
3. After 1 hour, gently punch the dough down and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, cover with a damp towel, and let rest for 10 minutes.
4 Roll each piece of dough into a thin log around 14 inches in length. Fold the log in half and loop each end around the other, forming a twisted doughnut. Squeeze the ends together. Repeat with the rest of the 7 pieces.
5 Set the doughnuts on a tray and cover with a damp towel. Let rise for 1 hour or until double in size.
6 In a wide plate, mix the white sugar and cinnamon together. Set aside.
7 Fry each doughnut over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
8 Immediately after frying and while the Shakoy is still hot, roll each piece over the cinnamon-sugar mixture or until even coated. Eat as is or serve with dulce de leche or tsokolate on the side.

*There's a method my family always use for family vacation or for personal savings, just something we learned from our grandparents and so on. It's call the "Dollar Jar" or "Dollar Box" we would use an old jar, tin can or built a wooden box; any change that is left over from our spending goes into the jar. I guess its similar to the Japanese method even though we never heard of it in the Turks and Caicos.* 😊💕

I was unaware we are already doing this method. We had been involving our kids in listing the daily expenses too since they are the ones going to the store to buy few goodies we currently don't have. The difference lang is, we put the coins in an open basket, ang nangyayari, if we need coins, nabubunot din namin siya easily, so hindi talaga lahat ay nasi save. Thanks for sharing this sis. Swak this January, 🙂💜

I didn’t even know that I was (slightly) doing this on an unconscious level. I need to do it more now since I am starting over in life, again. I was caretaker of two elderly parents and when my father passed almost three months ago (and my mom almost seven years, this year), I found myself needing to reevaluate my financial (and health) situation. I live on my military pension, so I have to be more than careful. But searching for some kind of clue on how to start, I came across your channel and I am thankful I have. I will starting looking at and doing this right away. Greetings from Florida: U.S.A. 🥰
