It would have been interesting if they did a “blind” comparison. So neither would know which TV was the Hisense and which was the LG and then compare. Sometimes I feel like from just knowing when something is an expensive product we get it in our heads that it’s just better regardless just because of the price or brand.

I mean 1 the hisense should have been half ass calibrated ( as default setting usually suck on budget tv) at least put it in movie mode or something... The other is while I don't doubt the Hisense would still lose... I think it's amazing how far TV's have come in the last 10 years or so.... The fact the you can take a TV that cost less than half the other and have pros struggle to tell the difference tells you the budget TV will be enough for most people...

Both these tv`s were straight from the box, i don`t know about anyone else, but i have never bought a tv in my life and left it at the factory default settings. You tweak the settings to your prefered viewing pleasure. This test would have been farer, and would have shown different results(i`m certain of it), if the prices and Brands were kept hidden. Maybe then the poor Hisense would have not have been so badly beaten up by the 2 viewers(i`m certain of that too)😋👍

You must compare TV models with similar dimensions and price ranges. If Hisense were to offer a TV priced at £749, they could potentially outperform LG, given their ability to produce a high-quality TV at half the cost. Imagine the possibilities if they were to compete directly with major brands by matching their prices. Hisense lowered its prices to cater to consumers who may not be as concerned with the finer technical specifications.

I think this is somewhat of a misnomer. The LG is £1800 and the Hisense is one of their lowest models and costs less than £749. Considering the price gradient, I’d say the Hisense did very well, and punched above its price point. If you really want to be fair, aim the Hisense U7H or U8H against the LG, they come in between £1000-1200 and have all the same features that the LG has. That would be a reasonable comparison, as this is the equivalent of comparing a Lexus UX to a Dacia Sandero.

Where the LG stands out most to me is the refresh rate. Coming in at 120hz over the Hisense 60hz, the screen quality alone isn't worth amost double the price. If the latency is also better over on the LG then. Someone who wants a large gaming experience may want to look at the LG. Otherwise, you're better off going with a 60hz LG 75HZ tv. I'd buy an LG c1 65 inch oled for the price of the 75 inch LG. Oled really is worth it if you want the best picture. And there is no back light so no awkward bloom and jet black blacks. Not to mention seriously impressive viewing angles.

Viewing distance and screen size should always take priority. You're not going to see the benefits of better picture quality if you're too far away from TV.

@@TT-df9hp you'd have to have some size of room for you to not see benefits of a 65 inch TV picture quality because you're too far away. 75 inch I feel works well for pubs and big areas. You are right though about right sizing. For this reason I've got a 48 inch. Anything bigger and I'd be too close. Meanwhile in my media room which is a converted loft I have a 55 and sit further away.

@@paultasker7788 I currently use a 55 inch at 11ft away and I can't even read the text in some games. A 55 inch OLED at my distance would be pointless so I've bought a 75 inch QLED as an OLED at that size is just too expensive.

@@TT-df9hp good point for gaming. Not sure why the font size is always so ridiculously small in some games. I remember trying to play ps3 games on 32 inch TV and it was very tough. Now the resolution has increased the font size has got smaller still. To the point where my 48 is pretty small in some. Qled is supposed to be very good too. And for gaming there is always that small risk of burn in with oled.

In my opinion, not adjusting the Hisense was not fair. Everyone who likes TV would never use it with out-of-the-box settings! About sound, if you go with Hisense you still get a LG sound bar with dedicated subwoofer that will give you much more sound quality than tha LG standalone sound. At the end, of course if you have money to buy LG, you wouldn´t even look to Hisense or TCL... But choosing to buy Hisense+soundbar you wouldn´t miss that much. Today, I would go Hisense+Soundbar.

You cannot test out of the box and say its good or bad ....ALL tvs have to be calibrated first (but nobody does that almost) ... and most people like the high colors...(not me..still heve the latest PLASMA (bring it back) tv from Panasonic) but you can always change the settings to your like...Its also beter to look at one tv at the time. But since they already said there is little difference between the two The Highsence absolutely gives the best bang for the money..

Working in A/V we stopped using Sony years ago because they are so unreliable. LG are OK but a little leached out and lack punch. Samsung pretty much the same as LG but sharper and more dynamic albeit poor shadow detail. For cheap and cheerful the Hisense are incredible value for money but absolutely need setting up. We tend to use digital signage sticking with NEC because they're reliable but picture wise they're pretty grim even 4K models. Whatever you buy ALWAYS set it up yourself, when you first unbox use the display for a couple of weeks on the OOTB setting then fiddle around until you like what YOU see - its not about ultra realism or super sharpness etc it's what you feel looks the best for your viewing experience.

Sony is definitely unreliable. I had a $1,500 Sony TV stop working and it could not be repaired. I also had a so-called "Flagship" type of "ES" Sony A/V Receiver stop working just a couple weeks after the warranty had passed. I was told there was nothing that could be done, because the motherboard stopped working. Sony was not willing to replace anything. I don't buy Sony products anymore. Hisense is inexpensive, but the products - including the new U8H - have so many glitches, defects, and hardware problems that it isn't worth buying.

Hardly a fair comparison, both TV's should have been calibrated to give the best performance they are capable of, not left at the out of the box settings. To me all they have done is prove that the way more expensive is the better TV, not everyone can afford £1700 for a TV. If they had compared a top of the range Hisense TV against the LG, the difference would have been far less obvious. As for the LG sounding better, of course it does, but if you are looking for a true home cinema sound, then a soundbar or full seperates system will beat any TV's internal speakers. The Gadget Show doesn't always get it right, and this proves it.

So straight out of the box, the LG is better… but since “settings” and “adjustments” are a thing, it seems disingenuous to not even try to see if the Hisense can get close to - or even match - the LG. For my money, the artifacts produced by the local dimming immediately render the TV undesirable - it is painfully distracting and always looks cheap.
@Kuranghi
@Kuranghi 4 ай бұрын
Agreed, the local dimming on this particular LG, the QNED816, is one of the worst examples of local dimming on any TV ever made. Its not true FALD, since its dimming only "columns" and not rectangular "cells" like with most FALD TVs. The thing that makes it really bad is that it only has 6 zones. Overall the Hisense A6 should be worse on paper, but the LD on the LG QNED81 is so bad that its more distracting than a benefit, so you would probably want to turn it off, meaning its only advantage over the Hisense is having a wide colour gamut via quantum dots and being (a bit) brighter: The A6BG is ~250-300 nits and the QNED81 is ~450. The 2022 A6BG has since moved on to the 2023 A6K model at this point (soon to be the 2024 A6N presumeably), which added PFS Phosphor to the backlight, giving basically a wide colour gamut similar to the QDs give the QNED81. So the difference is just brightness now and its not a big enough jump to justify the crazy price tag on the QNED81, one of the most overpriced TVs there is I'd say. Only the LG NANO76 is worse, one of the worst TVs ever made by a big brand. If you are going to spend the ~1700 and want best bang for buck you would go for the Hisense U8K, that blows the QNED81 out of the water with 120hz panel and 1008 dimming zones and a peak brightness of ~2000 nits. Or even "just" the 75" U7K at ~1300 is far far superior as it has 512 dimming zones vs. the 6 in the LG lol, its ~850 nits, whereas the QNED81 is ~450 nits.

They're not equivalent models though, so it's an unfair comparison. Would be better to compare it to a Hisense up the range, like U7 or U8 - things would soon change. It's also down to settings, such as both would have to be in the most accurate (Cinema/Movie) modes.
