Glad to see you up and about post-surgery, Wade. My tip is to get a long narrow bag like one from the produce aisle at the grocery store or that a sandwich from Subway comes packed in. Use the bag to pack the stove in before putting it in your pot. That will keep any of the stove’s soot residue from dirtying up the inside of your pot.

Hey Wade. I do hope you are recovering well. As you are likely aware, I have played with that stove a fair amount and I agree it is not a true wood gas stove. Secondary combustion does occur at the ports but not pyrolysis. Still, when combined with the chimney affect, it is a fast, hot and smoke free burner. I do feel there is a bit too much airflow at the bottom but that can be restricted with a plate that has smaller holes. There are not many stoves cheaper than that one that performs as well. Great review my friend. Thanks for sharing

Great to see somebody finally saying good things about the Lixada stainless steel wood burner. I love mine to death, and it nests like a champ inside my GSI Pinnacle cook pot. I also like to throw in with that my "plan B" stove which is a fancy feast stove and a 4 oz bottle of fondue fuel and wind screen. Pro tip: any wood gas camp stove can be used as a TLUD (top lit updraft). What I do is load the stove completely, placing fatter twigs on the bottom. Once the burn chamber is fully loaded, I shred a small handful of birch bark on top and shower it with sparks from my fire steel. The whole thing takes off like a house on fire. After your done doing whatever cooking needs to get done, I like to keep the stove going as a mini camp fire (because I'm a hopeless pyromaniac). At this point you can throw in some really fat branches. The thing will burn for hours if you have the fuel on hand. Loverly piece of kit. Cheers from Montreal QC (new subscriber)

Lixada also makes a titanium version of this stove, which I have. I also have the small version of the Toaks stove, and yes, my Lixada titanium stove is a gasifyer stove. It burns very efficiently with very little to no smoke. The reason I got the Lixada stove is I was looking for a stove that would provide a more stable platform for my pots. The titanium version of the Lixada stove sells for only $39.99 U.S. on Amazon and given it's much larger size and wider stance it's much more stable than my Toaks.

I just came back to watch this video again after seeing you use it in a more recent video. I definitely want to get the pot (you’ve sold me on that) BUT, I’m not sure about that 3 story stove combo. I don’t like the idea of playing ‘stove jenga’ with a pot of boiling water on top. Also, I already have the Bush Buddy stove and the Lite and Titan stoves from Solo Stove. All 3 are legit gasifier stoves. I’m not sure I need another stove lol

Hi Wade, hope your recovery is going well! I have the larger Toaks and the Tomshoo that is similar to the Lixada. As you mentioned they’re high stoves and can be tippy. For the Toaks, you really need to put it on a flat surface (plate or tent pegs) in order to ensure the air flow coming from the bottom . It’s less of an issue with the Tomshoo as bottom part of the stove is sitting higher. They’re both great stoves. The Tomshoo was like 28$ on AliExpress. I would like to thank you for demonstrating and sharing the Lixida wood stove with us . 😉✌️👍

Hi Wade, i want to wish you a good and fast recovery first. Thanks for the video, i like those tower-style stoves. In Germany i think its best to use kind of nearly stealth stoves cause its not allowed to do campfires or even stovefires, accept at special locations. Some rangers probably would accept it if its really small and safe but you never know. So my gears are very tiny ones. Trangia, also a little gasburner and a little stove like your firebox nano. But a little cheaper brand. Thumbs up Wade 👍👍👍

thanks - was wondering how that burned. I have the Lixada gasifier unit - one piece with a fitted pot stand. very easy to use - looks like my SOLO patio campfire unit but miniaturized, so isn't what might be called a space-saving unit and it too is stainless so comes with the weight - however, when doing a short day hike or wanting to cook a meal other than dehydrated without lugging fuel (trade-offs) I like it. this unit with the inclusion of pot and top bowl/lid/pan and all nestled together appears to take an equal amount of space or maybe even less. That in my mind would make it a more viable option for a day hike/overnighter and/or multi-day as well because wouldn't need additional space for my cook pot etc. on the overnighter/multi-day hmmmmm 🤔

I know that wood doesn't burn anywhere near the ignition temperature for titanium, but to this day I still hesitate to put a flame near it. I've had a titanium drill bit go up once before and it wasn't pretty, like magnesium on steroids, a total nightmare to put out with a bucket of sand. Thankfully I was unhurt, but I'd definitely choose the cheap stainless steel stove in a heartbeat after that experience. Edit: just bought a Lixada after watching this! I'm going to see if I can make a little locking door for it as an 'improvement', but if it doesn't work no loss, I know it works fine without.

I get bored hearing how many minutes a stove takes to boil water. What I’m doing in camp is relaxing. If it takes 5 minutes instead of 2 minutes - what the heck was I going to do in that 3 minutes anyway. Maybe I was talking, having a cup of tea, or watering down a local tree? Heck, in those kinds of activity, I’d prefer a bit more time. Oh well, just me. Most of the time, there’s no net to boil it anyway, and we have to sit and wait a few minutes for the way-too-hot-to-drink-anyway coffee or tea or cocoa. There went the time we saved!

This combo, i find to be the best value stove+pot. Only thing better would be a titanium Version and an actual zebra billy pot, which is stupidly versatile. I store this combo with an alcohol stove and fuel inside, a kindling bundle, a lighter and firestarter Vaseline cotton balls in a bag. Only problem is i gotta be careful not to out the plastic stuff inside while it's still hot, but I got used to in it's the first thing out of the pack and the last one in. As soon as I choose my spot I will have grabbed a twig or two on the way, take out the stove and light a fire inside to preheat it if I'm doing a lot of cooking, or just preload it immediately, right over the feeding port and light a fire on top of that. Then I unpack my stuff, set up my hammock which takes me little over 2 minutes, because I've optimized that as well. Lay a groundsheet and move the fire and pot right next to it and sit in my hammock while i prep ingredients. I can also put the stove under my tarp of it's raining but that'll leave a smell on nylon (not so much of the rattly plastic ones) The stove heats up while i get my ingredients into the pot for cooking and i set it and forget it after the fire has descended to the gasifying burn chamber (burns for a while if you make a top down fire). On this combo i most often make a one pot stew. If i have my zebra billy can I'll make some rice in bottom and stew veggies on the top. Once that's done i lay the veggies on top so i free up my frying pan for either meat or eggs. These stackable stoves get tippy when empty so i use tent pegs in the bottom vents to hold them down. Remember to always clear vegetation off of the floor so it doesn't set it on fire. Still digging a cathole for the ashes and coals is my preference. These are great for grilling thin slices of meat too cuz they always leave a bunch of coals on the bottom, so you can colapse the stove, and just use that and lay the meat on a mesh to be grilled, using lingering heat + coals to cook it nicely, or rewarm precooked food. If i don't need to cook anything other than the pot and pan I'll kill the coal's and save them for next time. This stove is better than the solo stoves imho cuz it can be disassembled, and used in other ways as I've just explained. Although if I intend on cooking for two meals and store half I'll use my zebra billy pot and a flat folding stove instead, so i can cook, store leftovers and pack away the stove anyway, otherwise this stove will take up more space (unless i bring the aforementioned alcohol stove configuration) That was a full blown essay XD This is my thru hiking stove, as you might have guessed. I keep coming back to this video to look at the Lixada pot/stove combo. I have questions… Do you still use it and if so, how frequently compared to other stoves you own? If you lost or misplaced this set up, would you buy another one? On a scale of 1-5 stars, what do you give it today I can get the pot and stove set on Amazon for $32.99USD and the pot alone is $17.99USD. I know I’m going to get the pot but is the stove worth the extra $15 ? Thanks Wade

Hi Alan, good question. It's a great stove, I like the way it nests, that's a big plus for me. It's your decision but I think it's a great deal even though I only use it occasionally. If you're a gear junkie... you need it, if you're not a gear junkie you don't lol. Thanks for watching👍🔥

The fuel needs to be below the preheated air outlets to be a true gasifier, these stoves seem to be just an overloaded gasifier for no reason.

Thanks for comparing the less expensive stuff, I've been using Stanley gear from Walmart. Use what you can afford and get out in the woods.

You're welcome! Stanley make some excellent gear. You're absolutely right, the gear doesn't matter at all, just get out in the woods! I did a budget bushcraft clothing and budget gear video a while back if you want to check it out sometime.👍

The both work well, one is just lighter. If you want lighter go for the titanium version, if weight doesn’t matter the Stainless version is superb! Merci!👊

I have the Lixada stove in titanium and find it a much better twig stove than the Toaks. For me, it just burns better.

You absolutely do NOT need to babysit these stoves. If you load and light it properly, they'll boil water on the first go.

Nice vid. I own some steel stuff and some titanium. If value equals cost times utility, steel is much much better value. An extra half pound for most people isn’t going to make much difference. For the $100 you saved you can buy more crap..., oops, sorry, meant useful stuff.

Well of course it's going to feel awkward feeding a front-loading wood-burning stove from behind. I was so sure you were going to set your beard on fire.
