Honestly, even if I am not a professional Engineer, a novice at best, I hear very subtle, almost non significant difference at all with the expensive mics. I really think that your skills in mixing what was captured is the most important tool you need in order to produce a good sounding recording. Nice video by the way,

No joke, Those Mics are very Good, I always use behringer`s stuff at the church. As a audio engineer i dont have excuses when speaking budget. We even Use Behringer speakers and also Sub. Behringer makes good stuff on budget,... dont be fulled by the price.

It’s a great day and age when quality sounding tools can be available to those on a budget. It’s made recording accessible to people that may have never had the opportunity! -Justin

Sounds pretty solid with the affordable mics. For any drummers getting into recording on a budget, I think they're best off to start with cheaper mics and invest most of their money into great cymbals.
@FromZeroToStudio
@FromZeroToStudio 3 ай бұрын
@@garycoysmith for sure! The kit, the room, and the player are going to have a bigger impact than pro vs budget microphones, and this mic set is a testament to that. My kit is an older Tama Rockstar. It’s “ok” at best, but still sounds decent in a mix. I would like to swap the A Custom cymbals for something darker though.

For me that 100$ BC1200 kit is a great set of spare mics for whenever you wanna double mic something or try any experiments with an additional room mic position, etc.

@@rockboy360 100%! And if these were all I had, I’d be happy with them. I’m not sure of the longevity or actual durability of them yet (haven’t given them the missed drum hit treatment haha), but I know an SM57 can take a beating. I’m curious how well these would hold up after being hit with drum sticks multiple times, accidentally dropped, etc. Any experience with that yet?

LoL. I don't believe you need expensive gear to get a good sound. I use Nady DM70's on sanre and toms , with a DM80 on the floor tom. $30 each. They sound just as good as my SM57's. ($100 each) I use Behringer C-2's on overheads , hats , ride/china. $50 a pair. I like them just as much as my Avantne Pro CK-1's ($150 each). Only mic I use that is a must is the Sennheiser e-602 ii on kick ($150) , I actually sold my D6 as I like the Sennheiser better. And I build my own sub kick mics fom 8-10' speakers for the kick out and botom of the floor tom. I just use whatever cheap mics I want for the drum room. And I'm totally happy with my drum sounds.

Exactly! Budget friendly gear has advanced so much in the recent years that it sounds extremely close or even indistinguishable to higher end options. Even with this Behringer set, I wasn’t crazy about the sound of the kick mic, but with just a few EQ moves I was able to achieve that same rock kick sound I like from the D6. It’s a great time to be making music!

Behringer is killing it. Most of us have trained our ears listening to songs from the early 2000s or older. The equipment our favorite bands were using, were often considered classic even back then. I think now thanks to behringer, as long as you know how to EQ and set the Levels, there's no excuse to having a poor quality mix.
@FromZeroToStudio

For sure! Today, the quality gap between budget and expensive gear is almost non-existent. If it’s a well-written song that is recorded and mixed well, the end result will sound good.

eq boost lowend on OH ?.. really? Why?.. you very rarely want to mix with OH that have anything below 100-150 hz. Unless you are doing a jazz kit or a 3-4 mic setup.
@FromZeroToStudio
@FromZeroToStudio 2 ай бұрын
@@HR2635 that’s like saying you rarely ever want to paint a room red. Some people like a red room. When matching these mics to the raw sound of my Neumanns, they needed that low end boost to match, and I personally enjoy the amount low end the Neumanns capture. There’s no right or wrong way to go after the sound you are after, and it all goes hand in hand with how you are processing the rest of the mix. If you prefer cutting the all the lows, do it! You can still get a great sounding mix that way.
@HR2635
@HR2635 Ай бұрын
@@FromZeroToStudio not saying there are rules. Quite the opposite. just saying that for OH you rarely need the low end. To match it.. sure. As a drummer I hate too much low end in OH.. midrange though, there the behringers lack too. And the transients. The OH are the weakest point in that set. A pair of t.bone sc140 would be a lot better.

And what about Behringer BC1500, did you ever take a look on it?
@FromZeroToStudio
@FromZeroToStudio 29 күн бұрын
I haven't tried the BC1500, but I imagine it would be a solid mic set as well! Behringer claims it's a step up from the BC1200, which is already great for the price, so at $149 it's still a bargain. Let me know what you think if you get them! -Justin
