For $3000 drum mics they better turn a $500 drum kit into a $10,000 drum kit.

Great sounding mics! They each have their own characteristics and I could see all of them being used depending on how you want to use them! Excellent video Casey!

I got two of the DRST100/DRK100 kits for my 7 piece set. Nothing to complain about with those! So glad you are testing these ones out, Casey.

I think the Lewitt kit is the better deal. Pair that with room mics and a preamp upgrade and you’ll get a way better tone than earthworks still being under 3k. The earthworks are nice but I don’t think they’re better, just different, and since they are really transparent that means you’ll have to spend more time in post production to do the boosts and cuts that are already inherent in the Lewitts. Which is ironic considering you argued that part of the disadvantage with the low budget mics is that they need more work in post.

I'm currently sifting through KZbin, because I want to replace my old cheap DrumMics. Your Video is one of those, that helped a lot. That's some value here! Thank you for your effort, your opinion and the RAW mic smaples

I use Sennheiser mics on my kit (I don't remember the model). They sound fantastic and have a tiny footprint. If I were to replace them, I'd go with the Lewitt set. They sound great and I can put the extra $2k towards other gear, since I have a serious case of G.A.S. 🤣

Absolutely love Earthworks mics for the “real” sound. Of course if you want to colour your sound use whatever mic sounds like you want. But if you want authentic, stunning clarity Earthworks is best. Clips are great as well.

That mid range kick mic is interesting. Would like to check that out as an option.

The missing option in this video is the Yamaha EAD10 - that sits in a price between the budget and Lewitt. It also doesn't need the extra audio interface etc.. so also presents a budget option and easy to setup.

This video was very good. My son plays drums and I always said to him you pay for what your talent level is. So I played hockey I didn’t buy a $500 goalie stick right out of the gate but I also didn’t buy (well my parents at the time) didn’t get the cheapest one either. I was naturally good at hockey but until I got more practice I didn’t buy expensive equipment. If he ends up wanting to try and make money playing drums then the 3k mics are a great investment honestly sound quality wise they were much better than the other but the others weren’t bad. If you’re in a band and trying to get a record label to sign you then go up toward your top budget. If you’re in a band for fun then do it in the middle to lower end of your budget. My son paid about 500 for his mic set not sure what kind it is. He bought them for Christmas 2 years back. They sound good though.

Can I ask you guys a huge favour. Could you give me some tips on how you like to tune that Pearl Reference Kick, and or maybe even do a video on it. So, mainly talking tuning, and for studio/recording. I feel like I'm pretty decent at tuning Kicks in the studio, but I've never struggled with one as much as the OG Pearl Ref. Like, I've heard lots I like, just like in this video, sounds great, but I dunno if they just have a weird range they need to be in, but so far when I try to tune/mic my 22" Ref Kick, it just didn't sound good at all.

Hi Casey. Is there any way to contact you directly. I wanted to request covering a particular group. I saw Carl Palmer last night, my favorite drummer. Simply amazing. Have you considered covering some ELP? Love watching your work.

The 1000 dollar Lewitt set was the best it was the most natural. The 3000 dollar EW one had whey too strange of a snap and i think that is not necessary. The LW dollar ones had enough body and all the low end that was necessary. No drummer needs the very thin snap of the earthworks.

This video could do a much better job of selling the budget option mic kits. Instead you put all of your emphasis on buying the Earthworks DK7 kit. Not exactly the most helpful for those drummers who do not have that kind of extra disposable income.
