Man, I love this formula of the review - instead of overly focusing on technicalties, you took 2 really good lenses, put them side by side and asked people - Can you see the difference? That's exactly what I needed. I work for Leica and am responsible for color calibration firmware, so I'd say my eyes are pretty trained, and honestly, in half the cases I couldn't tell which lenses are which. I want to go to Hong Kong for the first time in my life next year and was looking for just one lenses to take there with me. After watching this video, the Canon ones win for the trip, because the difference is negligible, only they're so much lighter!

Keep killing it, the quality of the videos are really underrated for the channel size. Easy 50-100k or more for this channel with consistency like this. With that said, I been battling which lens is next, do I want the 85 or 35, maybe even the 70-200. But I think if I go 35, the RF is solid enough to save the $300 difference. Great comparison.

Question - If you shoot wide open at an f1.4 aperture in bright daylight... the shutter speed hits the 1/8000 limit very easily! (clips, can't go any higher) with a Canon R6 or a Sony a7iv Electronic shutter limits also 1/8000. Do you use a ND filter to get around this issue? thanks With my Fujifilm X-T3 in MS + ME mode, it auto switches when needing above 1/8000 to ES mode up to 1/32,000 - thus never had this issue before!. On my Canon R6 if I choose iso 50 L (from 100) to help, this just blows out the highlights images look yuk!!!. I don't want to just raise the aperture to say f2.8 to stop this happening - Canon and Sony need faster Electronic shutter speeds... maybe a firmware fix?
@mariodevon_ Жыл бұрын
Great question. You’re shooting in some seriously bright sunlight. I personally have never needed anything faster than 1/8000. But yes, the ND filter is your best bet. Some cameras only stop down to 1/4000 shutter, and ND is necessary. Good thing for photos, you can shoot RAW, so you can compensate for any color shift from the ND. If you’re willing to splurge, look up the Nisi True Color ND filters. Minimal color shift. Hope this helps!

I have the Sigma (from my mkiv) but now that I have the RP I’m debating the RF 35. I actually guessed right in all of these because something I’ve noticed in my sigma that bothers me personally I that the edges of a subject are not as sharp even when not at 1.4. (Like feet or hands are sometimes blurry) I noticed in your photos the canon kept the sharpness throughout the shot and the colors look great…not to mention it’s much smaller and lighter. So I might be getting that lens next.

@jensfrankjakob2 жыл бұрын
Late answer but the adapter does not affect quality since it does not cotain any glass elements and the electronics contacts are more or less passthrough. If anything they will perform better due to the technical advances of the newer camera bodies (DPAF II, IBIS). The benefit of the canon is that is lighter, more compact and the STM AF is less noisy while filming. Other than that both should work alright.

Great video, but shooting both at 1.8 isn't an even playing field, it's hamstringing the wider lens! I can actually see a bit yellow cast in the pictures captured by the Sigma. i prefer the canon over the sigma..

I've been shooting with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art for the last two months and I love it. I was able to pick out the Sigma between the two in most of the photos you provided and it honestly backs up my love for what Sigma does with their lenses. I shot with a 35mm RF for about a week before I got the Sigma and wound up taking it back. It's not a bad lens, just didn't do what I wanted. Love the point you're driving though. You don't have to have the sharpest lenses in the game to produce great photos and 35mm RF 1.8 is a solid first lens choice.

Do you think it’s worth considering buying a used Sigma 35mm ART 1.4? Will it have a better image? The price is equal to the new RF 35mm 1.8. So I wondered if it was worth using it for work and photo shoots?

@@stefan_es honestly, it's dependent on the shape the lens is in. If the 35mm Sigma is in good condition and the price is right, I'd say it's a solid choice however, it really comes down to preference. I know everyone is looking for an "absolute" answer, but it comes down to the photographer/videographer testing both out and deciding which feels right and delivers the results they're looking for. For me, after using both in a store, I prefer the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens. I haven't used either out in the field, but I know the feel from the 50mm and it blew my nifty fifty out of the water in terms of sharpness. I personally love the quality images I get using Sigma glass more than the more affordable Canon native glass. However, I wouldn't turn down a 35mm RF 1.8 because it is still a great lens and makes for a better travel lens due to it's lighter weight. Either way, no matter what you choose, I don't think you can go wrong.

This is exactly how a comparing lens video should be made, with quizzes in every photo. Great job man. They seem to perform very similar, moreover it's not excluded that the sigma need to be adjusted for back or front focus at the lower aperture with the usb docker. Did you do such work for the Canon EOS R?

Front- / backfocus isn't an issue on mirrorless anymore. It used to be a problem due to how phase AF of DSLR cameras works, this does not affect DPAF.

If you shoot hybrid, go for sigma. You'll face focus issues on low light with rf35 canon

Great comparison and excellency model per composition. I have the Canon 35mm rf . The difference is more pronounced with the Canon 85 rf f2 and the Sigma art 85mm but the 35mm in very close. I shoot with an R6 so the difference seems smaller. Canon Rf mount is not a great place the live for reasonably priced lens

I must say the Sigma is better. Canon RF for the price as for Canon is wonderfull lens but the bokeh of Sigma is just better. No split lines no split circles etc. making the background silky smooth.

I guessed every time which was the Canon lens. I noticed that Sigma always blurs the clothes and only the eyes are in focus, while the Canon lens is different, with it both the eyes and the clothes are in focus. I like Canon lens more because of that feature.

I had 💯 right answers based on background/ bokeh qualities of lenses. RF had less “washed” background. 🤴

So except the last picture I got all of them right. Your videos and pictures are awesome. Keep up the good work, man! You’ve earned a new follower.

A fair comparison would be giving both lenses to someone that is clueless about photography and editing. You ma boy can do bangers with 18-55mm and still will look dope

You can tell which one is the sigma just by the depth of field in each picture. But nice video!!

Actually all of the photos are set at the same aperture. The bokeh has different character. But the apertures are both set at f/1.8

Especially if it is only going to be posted on Instagram….. they compress the shots so there isn’t even a need for like a 45MP camera if you are only shooting IG.

I definitely want the Canon. But I will have to opt for the Sigma

I like them both! I actually like the image sharpness from the Sigma's more though
