@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
It's such a shame because it's a nice lens otherwise 😫if you've already tried calibrating it and it still didn't fix the issue, the only suggest I have is to take some extra photos during a shoot, which is what I did while I was using this lens just to make sure I had some sharp ones :)
@rushorahman4 жыл бұрын
It's very interesting how the same lens is super sharp and accurate in mirrorless A7iii but not in 6d mark ii. I also had the same issue with my sigma 35, even after using the dock to calibrate it properly. The dock didn't help much. Rather I Microadjusted my 6D mark ii for the lens and it's now good. No more soft focus and tact sharp on the spot. :)

Nice video but I this that Sigma might have been a dud or needed a micro adjustment on your camera. Its supposed to be super sharp from everything I have heard. You mention at the 6:05 mark that it wouldn't be an issue on the EOS R and you're right, so when are you switching to the R? :) Eye AF is sooooo much better than focus and recompose on a DSLR. Way more keepers too.

I’m also using a 5D mark iV I recently bought a Tamron 35mm f1.4 but it turns out the focus wasn’t accurate. So I fiddled around the AF micro adjustment settings and the lens sharpness is insane. Bernhard Wimair nah sigma art are very known to do this with any dslr. They focus most of the time front or back. Julia, i love your channel and style in photography, thank you for making photo related content in this high quality :) About the lens... i saw a few images with slightly missed focus, even with the really precise middle focus point. I'm using a 5d4 body myself, and i had all the issues you can possibly imagine with these lenses. Actually the 3rd copy of my 50mm Art worked properly. (the first copy was missing focus more what you can fix at home with the usb dock, the second one, even after calibration gave me shots with missed focus, sometimes it produced front focus, and then, in a really similar situation, i was backfocusing...) unfortunately, for both sigma and tamron lenses on DSLR-s, the usb dock is a must. on the positive side, if you spend that small amount of time to calibrate your lens to your camera body, it will gives you an amazingly reliable performance and the peace of mind! i had the 50mm ART, and i got the 35mm as well a few days ago, this weekend i'm gonna finetune that too, really worth a few hours just to make sure you have the AF right, and then, you don't have to worry about any focusing issues!

On a DSLR you don't have focus points on the outer edges of the frame where I usually like to have my portrait composition, so I pick the focus point closest to the eye and then focus and recompose :) I've been doing this for 10+ years so it doesn't really cause oof photos depending how you do it. Also I was using the same technique for the Canon lens which didn't have back focused images!

Julia Trotti sigma seems to have good and bad lenses and they tend to have problems with back or front focusing on DSLRs and have to calibrated sometimes. There‘s also the sigma dock. There‘s a lot of bad things to say about the art series in terms of size and weight, but all I ever hear are, that the sigma art primes are among the sharpest lenses out there, at their maximum aperture. At the end of the day I‘m not a pixel peeper anyways and would probably be happy with either lens. But if you‘re in the market anyways might as well do the research and get the best value for your money.

so if i pair sigma 35 with the latest canon mirrorless like r6, i wont face any focus problem ryt?
@fy75897 ай бұрын
I think the canon's glass is a bit sharper overall in the center and the sharpness area in the center is wider than the sigma. This is why in F/4.5 the background on the canon lens is sharper. That means the sigma lens has a much shallower focus field than the canon which is more useful for professional work in daylight portraits etc. However for night time work, having both lenses wide open, I'd prefer the canon for that case.

Here’s a quick question that is from someone not totally a noob on this. How are you getting both eyes in focus at 1.4 when they’re not on the same plane? Are you stepping back some and cropping? Maybe it’s just having high expectations of my modest gear, although I figure DOF at 35mm 1.4 is still the same regardless of gear.
@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
Mostly from lots of practice keeping myself/my lens at the right angle to the model's face. I can mostly get both eyes in focus if it's a straight on shot of the model, but if she turns to the side or has more of an angle to her face then only one is in focus :)

Sigma has been known to have focusing issues in earlier copies, so you might have that one.

Both lenses looked really nice. Hard to tell any difference. Some photos looked nicer on the canon and some with the sigma. Its to bad so many of the shots were not in focus. I guess we can see how much a mirrorless camera with eye autofocus really does help. Thanks for sharing the photos.

I don't know :( Must have been an error or something in Premiere when I added my Twitter handle!

Great video as always! I see that you switch back and forth between the Sony and Canon. Is this more for video variety or do you still love the Canon and hate to put it down compared to the Sony?
