Hello and welcome to the channel!
In this video we are taking a look at fitting wheel weights to my MN Models MN-99 (D99) Land Rover Defender RC truck. This is the ready to run has proportional steering and a big 260 motor. Very impressed with this little rig and for the money it has a lot going for it. But during the review one of the gripes i had with it, was the fact it was a little top heavy. So as usual we are going to see if we cant improve on this situation.

I'd have to agree with you entirely. Its one of the few complaints I have about the truck ands its one that is pretty straight forward to fix. 👍

@@theminiatureconstructionco4556 I went for c44 weighted wheels, nice scale look to them, overall performance is reduced due to how thin they are compared to stock 99 tyres. They definitely need stiffer shocks going forward, it's a bouncy ride to say the least 😂

Nicely done! I've put foam in my D99 tires, but imagine a foam/weight combo may work very well for me. Thanks for sharing :-)

Eh up! Your the second Stokie that's contacted me on here, and through this very video! Both recognising the accent and getting in touch! It's weird because I've never had anyone local contact me. Yes great little truck for the money, cant go wrong really. Deffo fit wheel weights makes a hell of a difference, the top heavy nature of the beast is the only thing that lets it down. Get your self over to Hanchurch Woods, there's some fantastic mountain bike tracks perfect for a little woodland trailing. More videos to follow on this wee beastie. Welcome aboard 👍😀👍😀

Make sure to keep an eye on how hot the motor gets. I put the wpl weights in all 4 wheels in my fayee 002 with a mn 260 motor and it over heated to the point that even after it cooled the truck struggled to move up a 30° incline. Maybe it was just mine i dont know but it may be something to look out for

Hello! I will do, I think that 60g was a little bit much. It was just the fact that they came as 60g strips, and it was easier to just bung them in for the test. 👍

yes.. and a 280 motor will slide right into that gearbox, problem solved! you may have to carefully tap the output shaft back about 1 mm in the output gear's spline, so the drive shaft doesn't rub the end of the new longer motor. just posted video last week with a 280 motor running a LOT of weight.

I've been using 2 mm solder wire between the tire beads on the rims. start with a spot of CA and start winding around+across, use a flat screwdriver tip to tighten the step-overs. once across the width, step up and wrap another layer across if wanted. on my MN-D90 I've wrapped 2 layers (16 turns) to the front rims, then 1 layer (16 turns) of 1.2 mm solder to the rear rims. finish by slitting electrical tape slightly wider, stretch it down over the solder 2 wraps worth and end with a spot/smear of CA to keep it locked. the solder wrapped tightly with the stretched electrical tape will keep the solder compressed tight against the rim. the MN-D90 here is rolling on Fayee rims+tires, are about 3/16" shorter with square faced tread, and they are offset wider to add about 7/16" more width to also help prevent side tipping. with my WPL C-24, its 3 turns wide 3 layers deep (9 total) to just the front widened stock rims. the Fayee look good on the C-14 "not so budget" beast, but I didn't like them on the C-24 so I grafted the inner tire beads from a spare set to the outsides making new "deep dish" stock wheels, adds near 1/4" extra width.

Great video!! I just added 60g using solder wrapped round the wheel. Climbs pretty well now, but it does seem pretty heavy!!!. Wonder if you have kept running with 60g or if you've tuned the weight at all.

I have but I'm thinking about cutting it to 40 to see how I get on. Because I noticed in the latest video in the snow it struggled a touch when the battery was getting flat (mind you it would anyway to be fair). It's just a shame the damn things are so top heavy. I keep looking at full metal axles as they would do a similar job but keep the weight off the wheels? 👍👌👍👌

Looks like you need a 370 motor and more suspension flex, Nice video
@theminiatureconstructionco4556
@theminiatureconstructionco4556 4 жыл бұрын
Personally I don't think that the flex is to bad. And I think that with a dedicated ESC in it, it would transform the 260 that's in there. I pretty certain that 60g per wheel is to much! 😄👍👍👍👍
@carloshnunez
@carloshnunez 4 жыл бұрын
@@theminiatureconstructionco4556 Yes a good ESC improves allot on the torque, I don’t know how heavy my led weights are so I can’t debate the 60g with you but on your video it looks like it needs more power and very stiff for a car with wheel weights maybe is only my perception

Hey bud, Cracking vids... I’ve just purchased one of these mn99 myself and will be looking to weight my wheels when it arrives, What weight would you suggest putting in after your test? 40g 50g? Also I couldn’t help but notice your accent, are you local to the Stoke On Trent area?

Hello! That's very perseptive of you, yes I am a Stoke resident. However the misses still thinks I have a slight black country twang! You must have been exposed to the accent because it seems normally people have difficulty placing it. I think that the 60g I used was a little to much. Your proberbly right in saying about 40g. I would try that first and see how you get on, but what ever weight you use it will make a positive difference! Sorry for the delay in replying I'm having some issues with the notifications on here. The Miniature Construction Company small world my friend, I grew up in the Cannock area so had a Midlands twang for many years, but have been living in Stoke On Trent / Newcastle Under Lyme for the last 22 years I’ve gained a potters accent and become very fond of a good Oatcake haha. This is going to be my first crawler but have had all sorts for Rc over the years and currently bash a WLtoys 144001... I have just placed an order on a Double E E568-003 Excavator from Banggood also! Once the world has returned a bit more to normal we could meet up and excavate out a course to run our mn99’s on ;)
