This is an older video but I have the same questions pop up again and again so I'm addressing them here. First off, not all birds should be housed together. It is extremely irresponsible and dangerous to house parrotlets together as they are incredibly territorial. There are very few exceptions to this. We also don't know anything about Ella's past as we adopted her when she was already almost a year old, she had many behavioural issues including being territorial and aggressive that took us many years of working with her to curb. As for the microwave - first of all we rarely used it and it was always unplugged when not in use. Secondly we of course moved the cage away from the space when it was in use. This was a short term solution, we renovated our kitchen shortly after that and those videos show that she is no where near the microwave.

Why is it so common for people in the us to keep birds alone in Germany (where I live) it even is illegal to keep them alone every good breeder will only sell you two birds and it is possible to keep parrotlets in pairs they mostly do way bether in pairs they will only get territorial to other parrotlets if they arent used to living with a mate I keep a pair of parrotlets myself and they are inseparable they even freak out if they dont see each other and yes they are handtame
@anjachan3 жыл бұрын
@@tom4005 yay they should be ok with each other sins they live in big swarms in the nature ... exceptions are always there. Maybe it's one of them.

She is definitely a 'she'. She lays eggs occasionally. Female pacifics still have blue, she also has some small amounts of blue under her wings. The male pacifics actually have almost all vibrant blue under her wings. That's how you can easily tell the difference :)

@trainme100 From what I understood there are two types of bands - those that are clamped around the foot of a bird that's been shipped here (so many birds in the 80s etc. that were smuggled from the Amazon have these kinds of clamps) and those from breeders that are slipped on before the birds foot forms. These kinds are a solid, safe plastic thats larger than the bird's foot. Ella's is pretty loose around her leg and she won't grow any larger. Our vet also hasn't indicated we should remove it.

Have you been limiting their pellets/seeds when feeding other foods? Ella gets a big dish of fresh food in the morning and her seed dish at night (unfortunately we have never been able to get her on to pellets). It took a few weeks before she tried anything as well, they can be very picky! Also make sure to cook up a few things that may entice them like hard boiled egg, whole wheat pasta and brown rice. :)

@Mathilde Tripathy I actually just googled this as I didn't know the answer but apparently they have taste buds just very few of them - explains why they love hot peppers so much! I suppose for them it's more about the texture of what they're eating and perhaps with the raspberry as they're so flavorful Ella can taste it! Thanks for teaching me something new!

I still need to teach my baby parrotlet (14 wks old) to eat other foods. He's scared when I try to hand feed him. I might just put the food on the table/floor and see if he'll eat it.
@SAMnELLA-17 жыл бұрын
I have a Kakariki parrot & his favourite fruits are raspberries & kiwis. For both of them, he is only interested in the little seed inside. So when you slice a kiwi it has all the black seeds around the middle. My guy picks them all out & leaves all the green fruit. With raspberries, there is a tiny seed inside each little round piece & he will take that little piece off & get the seed out from the middle. He then has all the red fruit stuck on his beak. So what's a bird to do? Why they shake their head so that all the bright red fruit goes flying. What a mess. I only give him those fruits when he is in his cage. That helps contain some of the mess. And I put some towels or paper down around the cage or it ends up all over my taupe carpet. He grinds the tiny seeds in his beak. I think with Ella you can hear the same grinding when she eats the raspberry seed. She is lovely. I enjoy watching my 2 birds & other's videos of birds eating & getting it all over their face. They look like they enjoyed themselves. Cheers.

She's beautiful ❤ How did you introduce food to her/ find out what she likes? The only thing my parrotlet eats/likes other than seeds is "egg food". He runs away from any healthy food we give him :(
@SpockLover277 жыл бұрын
This is just my advice, but I've had both budgies and a parrotlet. Whenever they're scared of something it's good to leave it somewhere they can see it until they get used to it. I know you might not have meant actually runs away so you might try mixing stuff your boy likes with stuff he isn't so sure of, that way he will likely get some of the other stuff while he's eating. Making 'birdie bread' could be a good way to do it too~ There are lots of recipes or you could just try as I said before the mixing idea.

What kind of Parrot is that? What's the name exactly? Looks cute and fancy. And how can u tell if their male or female?
@Canım_Kızım_Kivim2 жыл бұрын
Pacific parrotlet. The distinction between female and male is fairly easy. Males have a dark blue back, dark blue wings and a blue eye area. However, there are female pacific parrotlets whose eye rims are as blue as those of the males. My lovely daughter's is also very blue. When she was only 3 - 4 months old, her blueness occurred. It increased in the following months. I think it will increase a little more when she reaches full adulthood. Her has a few dark blue shiny feathers on its back, as in male pacific parrotlets. Her remaining back feathers are glossy/phosphorus green, as in all green female pacific parrotlets. These blueness are caused by the amount of testosterone hormone. Despite this, my dear daughter did not bite me even once. It is not uncommon for female pacific parrotlets to have blueness around the eyes. That's why when looking at the gender of an adult pacific parrotlet, the back and wing feathers are looked at. Not around the eyes.
