Kerry, I do this with my roast potatoes and also my Yorkshire puddings (homemade aunt bessies LOL), a tip for you, if you spread the potatoes & veggies on a tray (baking tray) then put into freezer until frozen, you can then bag them up and they won't be a big lump and you can literally take them out the freezer and straight into the air fryer (oven) - also means you can make a load and just take out a few if that is all you need.
@budgetcookinguk2 күн бұрын
I'm definitely trying this with the tray, you're the 3rd person to mention it lol. Top idea 😀👍💕I've frozen homemade yorkies before, that works so well. Was a bit worse for wear on the day, so just about managed the basics lol🥳🥂😜

Lovely,who doesn't like a plate of roasters,we used to go to the Carvery in the Carlton Hotel Pretwick and as well as normal road potatoes they had cajun ones as well,they were delicious,I knew the Chef Ian and he told me he roasted them in a spicy oil and he gave me the recipe 1/4 cup of olive oil 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning 2 teaspoons dried thyme or oregano 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Great video Kerry Happy New Year ❤Xx

@budgetcookinguk You're welcome Kerry,no snow yet but we've had a severe weather warning of snow for the weekend but it doesn't really get that bad(much to Heidi's disappointment 😂)because we're on the coast with the salt sea winds,it's very heavy frost tho,I had to scrape the windscreen yesterday before heading to the shops ❤️Xx
@budgetcookinguk2 күн бұрын
@pikricky it was absolutely freezing here this morning Ricky, but I did see one shooting star 6am this morning putting the rubbish out - pitch black still. I bet Heidi was disappointed, being on the coast it's a rare thing. We used to live in Frinton and walton on the naze, seaside towns. Frinton is known as gods waiting room the amount of people who move there to retire lol. Was very quiet after living in east london😂 and mild!

Looks fantastic, I tried something similar with leftover fat from Lorne Sausage, it really gives the veg an uplifting taste. A lot of home cooks today don't cook in leftover fat and it's becoming a dying method, which is sad really. A lot of flavour in roast dishes is lost when cooking with just oil. I've been considering getting a larger air fryer for these type of dishes, think I'm going to jump for one now.

Hi Kerry, I nearly always have frozen roast potatoes (along with Parsnips and Carrots) in the freezer ready to go for a quick roast. I do the same method as you and par boil them and steam dry them, then when cool (instead of part cooking them at this stage) I separate them so they are not touching each other and place them on a plastic tray that will fit in my freezer. Then when fully frozen I remove them from the tray (they sometimes need a little encouragement to become free, so I twist them or lever them with a spatula if needed) and place them in a zip lock bag and put them back in the freezer ready to cook however many you required straight from the freezer (so basically because you open freeze them first they don't stick together in one clump in the bag).

Hi Kerry Not sure of this information but I read somewhere that the fats in things like your roast potatoes, meats,fish etc interacts with the plastic in the bread bag (for example) and break down the chemical oils in the plastic bag. That’s why that kind of plastic is used for bread. Other bags that are designed for other foods ie meat fish, fats and are labeled as food safe and suitable for freezing. Maybe someone else here might know if that is correct or not.
@budgetcookinguk2 күн бұрын
Interesting, I've just looked this up and if putting hot food in plastic bags such as my bread bag, there is a potential leaching effect of the chemicals. I'm not worried, as my pots etc were barely lukewarm but it's really good to be aware of this. Thank you Audrey!😀👍💕
