Hey, I tried this with my own playthrough! One difference, I converted to Orthodox so I could raid catholics. I also got really lucky at the start, because even though I missed a province in the Greek region of Byzantium, Hungary and Serbia stepped in and actually helped Byzantium against the ottomans... And somehow, Byzantium reclaimed their entiren coastline. Which I uh... Then proceeded to steal from them, killing them and taking all their territory. After that, managed to ally Venice and Serbia, which meant that I was consistently able to hold out against the Ottomans just long enough for the Mamlucks to start hamstringing them, and slowly but surely ate the whole Kebab. I also later managed to get the entirety of Russia into a PU, and with no Prussia in the game I had the highest discipline army backed by the world's largest army. Oh, also Venice became a world power and my main rival, Aragon became Spain and ate most of France but funnily enough Castille actually still existed in the New World. And the biggest meme may be that by the end Ulm was several provinces larger than Austria and was one of the main enemies of Spanish/Venetian advancement into the HRE.

for the King of Jerusalem achievement i just played as cyprus and attacked the mamluks, when the ottomans did, moved my armies with their armies together and made sure to control the sieges. you can get enough war score for the provinces you need to form Jerusalem and it's basically only one move you do in the game so it's not that tragic to restart if you failed.

I have no idea how you guys manage to implement any plan in this game because every time i try to come up with some strategie or to implement one the game says to me. "Not today sunshine. Today is opposite day!". I tried this strategy twice. First time i got a comet and followed your lead "just follow exactly what i say" "Do not increase stability". So yeah, revolt on rodos with more then the promised 4k men. But nothing fancy hear, yet. Also the otomans did not break their sieges for athens and achea and got everything but byzantium (which was harded then it should be because i had to fight trebizond as well which did not want to peace out). So i thought to myselfe, maybe a next luck next time. You would not guess what happend this time. The Ottomans did not pull through with the war they declared instantly against byzantium because hungary joined. And suddendly the ottomans make a white peace with byzantium. I never guessed this could happen but if i rely on it the ottomans they even manage to fuck this up and i stod without navy (because the ottomans managed to loose the naval fight in some mysterious way and mine got sunk shortly afterward) against byzantium (which still had an army!) albania (untouched by the ottomans with skanderberg as general) athens and trebizond. Then i play byzantium the combined might of Hungary and Poland looses against the ottomans. Then i play holland france looses against burgundy. It reminds my off my teacher "If you want to make god laugh, make a plan."

This strategy is actually pretty great. It's still doable, I just did it on the newest version of the patch, it's just a bit more rng than before. I was a bit vulnerable while trying to get somebody as an ally, but when I finnaly got Austria which got a PU over Hungary and joined my war for land while the Ottomans attacked Venice, it was safe and the Ottomans dead. It's actually a pretty fun game so far, even the Mamluks stand no change against the anatolian powerhouse, the Knights.

Ok, slight issue with this strategy. And I did exactly what you said to do, too. I pulled off a brilliant war against the Byzantines, when they had no allies. So, I took Constantinople and Athens for myself, and vassalized the Peloponnesus remnant of the Byzantines. I moved my army back to Rhodes, and waited for the Byzantine rebels to spawn like you said, so the Ottomans would deal with them. However, they spawned in Athens AND Constantinople... and before I could even get my army to fight off one of them, they broke my nation entirely, resulting in a game over. In other words, you either need to give Athens back to Byzantium through returning their core, or let someone else take it...

Hmm i am sorry to hear that this happened. This can be fixed by simply maintaining your fort in Constantinople and then resieging Athens when the troops move into the ottomans and same again with Constantinople. The problem will occur when both provinces are occupied.

So i'm doing this strategy spot on, but i guess since there has been a lot of updates and a couple dlcs since this video was released, the strat doesn't work anymore. Or at least it can maybe work 1/100 times, but even then with allies after taking over Byzantium, the ottos still go to war with you as fast as they can. It doesn't work cause the ottos don't get distracted with the Serbs anymore, they begin to siege Constantinople and continue to siege it every time.

You will have limited options to expand early. Therefore i suggest religious first. After that it totally depends on what you want to achieve. I would take expansion and begin colonising via the red sea. ;)

I reestablished Kingdom of Jerusalem as Cyprus on normal difficulty ironman. My strat was to first delete my tradeships and the fort on the island. Turn down army maintanance to zero. Mothball the navy while you set a spy to get a claim on Ramazan (the red minor south-east of the turks). Attack them before Karaman does. Rebells may become a problem. Go over your force limit if you must but remember to turn down maintanance so that you don't go negative in ducets. Improve relations with the Ottomans as they otherwise may attack you. When the rebells are gone, set army main' to zero again and mothball your fleet. Attack the Mamluks when the Ottomans does. Remember that the three nearest provinces in the region Palestine is your primary goal. Siege them before the Ottomans. When you have seized the land you need, sell the province in the north (the one you took from Ramazan) to the Ottomans. You may need to go over your force limit because of rebells in the Jerusalem area but you should have enough money from the peace deal and from what you have accumulated while at peace. Game is complicated but i think Portugal is a very nice begginer nation. Just try to keep good defensive relations and chill. Let the game play out and colonise get a good grasp of how your economy improves over time, and then begin completing easy tasks like destroying much lesser nations around the world. Look at the Portugues achievements. You can prob get these as a bigginer good luck have fun. ;)

Has the spamming mercs thing to get rid of the negative penalty been patched because I had 30k troops and it didnt have any effect at all, also my byzantine rebels just sieged down Constantinople and Athens and they flipped back to the byzantines not a big deal becuase they're still my vassal

Modifier will not go over 20, it goes from -20 to +20 modifier based of military power. Also that is bad luck with rebels i would suggest a restart. try to have units in position to siege back athenes or constantinople as soon as the rebels move off province. Also if the stack at Athenes is managable it might be worth killing them.

In this patch, Austria get its 5 diplomatic slots up only one month after the game begin, Hungary rivals Venice like always so u cannot use them , and theres no more 100% for Poland getting PU, plus your Monastic Order, so its inpossble to use royal marriages. and if THIS not was enough , Ottomans almost immidiacly neither ally France or Lithuania if he dont get PUd, so my allies focus on them while Ottomans crush me. what should I do?

Did the national ideas of either of these nations change recently? I'm looking at them on the wiki and Jerusalem's ideas seem better than the Knights. Same discipline, same yearly papal influence, straight manpower bonus instead of a manpower recovery bonus, bonus land leader shock, more and stronger missionaries. I'm not as good at the game so maybe my read on these is off but Jerusalem's ideas seem more generally useful.

On my second try, before anyone declared war on Byzantium, Albania beat the Ottomans (with a lil help from Hungary) and gave them back 6 cores :( FML gotta try again! Nice strategy though :)

Albania has really good odds of beating Ottos with the help of Hungary, both Albania and Hun have really nice generals and Hungary has cav combat ability 20% the problem is very often Albania gets attacked by Venice aswell.

Well I'd like to point something that happened to me in my current try. Everything went fine and I was waiting for Austria to get 10 favors (Hungary was crushed by Ottos and Bohemia in two wars so I let them be for a while). Poland was whiling to join in a war against the Ottos in exchange of some sweet clay. Just raiding and waiting until the Ottos attacked me only with Novgorod as ally and Crimea/Theodoro as their vassals. Ok, so Knights/Byzantium, Austria and Poland/Lithuania vs Ottomans/Crimea/Theodoro and Novgorod. 86k vs 47k. But Jesus Christ that GREAT POWER THING in this last patch... FRANCE joined against us because there were 2 vs 1 great powers at war... So I managed to make peace with them all buy paying a few pens... and no clay to me. :D Just pointing this out for you all to make sure about declaring war to the Ottomans. Maybe waiting for France to be at war or something. I couldn't stop it as the Ottos attacked me first.

In my case i managed to pull both hungary and poland in exhange for some land. Declared as soon as otto's went to war in anatolia, I gave serbia which the ottos had taken to hungary and nothing to poland. then allied Austria. Each game is going to be difrent just try to do your best.

BudgetMonk 119 So the best way to beat the Ottos at first is to use only one Great Power as I read here. Because I tried it with France getting rekt by Spain and England and after both wars finished, England joined against me to help the Ottos...

You must be Catholic in order to get the achievement (form Jerusalem) however once you have goten it you could try flip back via rebs, considering you can now raid and loot all of europe it could be worth. Catholic is op if you are getting tons of papal influence.
