One of the first metal bands for sure, but the first one that we can call "heavy metal" is Black Sabbath. When Budgie release their first album "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid" had already seen the light.

Im 62. I first heard Budgie when I worked near San Antonio Texas early 70s. There was an AM radio station better than any FM Ive ever heard. After hearing them I had to have their music importing some of it. Because of that radio station I was the first in my small town and even Dallas to hear and turn on people to Budgie,Scorpions who played in the small town in Germany I was located at,Judas Priest in the beginning when they destroyed any band they opened for and the first time ever to hear eruption Van Halen. Then the station dissapeared from the universe. It was such a wonderful time driving the car late at night with friends and max volume 2 mph for hours except when I was stopped and didnt know it due to microdots, strawberry fields, and the liquid kind that came in murine eye wash bottles that gave me a few out of the body experiences. I thought Budgie was fucking great!

Bought this album in the seventies and had to go back and listen to all their stuff. Don’t know why they weren’t more popular in the US?

Thanks to Sea of Tranquility KZbin channel for putting me onto Budgie. Blimey I m 55 and just discovering them! Riffs aplenty and loads changes. Sabbath meets Rush into Metallica. Huge!

Very, very much underrated and under promoted i think,i listened to Budgie in late 70's in New Braunfels,tx. just 35 miles from san antonio,TX. a city they played in many times, regretfully i never got to attend a show, this band should've been as big as iron maiden or the scorpions, after 40 years they still ROCK !!!
