Fantastic Welsh three piece who ive seen live many times, great musicians and by way of contrast to this lovely number i would suggest Breadfan and Breaking all the house rules both of which are full of powerful and inventive riffs.

Possibly one of the most under rated rock bands of all time, big influence for Metalica. Glad I got to watch them a few times in their hey day.

A great band. They started in the very early 70s I think. There are a lot of great tracks oot there by them.

They formed not far from where I live now in Wales, UK. My friends Dad played guitar with them when they first formed but didn't stay long with them and just played with other bands as a session guitarist. A very Powerful trio that many bands pay tribute to as their inspiration to play in metal bands.

It's beautiful, no question. The tone of the guitar is breathtaking. I think it conveys a casual relationship between the child and adults. More from mom than dad because he was probably working

I first saw Budgie in 1980 at The Saint George's Hall, Bradford. They were supporting Gillan and the other band on the bill was Nightwing. That is one gig that I will never forget.

A classic UK band from Wales. Budgie released some classic rock albums of the 70's. Budgie are one of those bands who the more you listen to their albums the more you begin to appreciate the subtle artistry of their music. Just ask Pete Pardo at 'Sea of Tranquility' on youtube how good Budgie were. Cynthia has certainly caught the subtle vibe of Budgie's greatness.

Very cool, that you guys are listening to this and liking it, it's def an under rated classic from the 70's, actually not that different than Stairway to Heaven.. My favorite Budgie tune for sure... You guys should do a listen/video of LORD OF THE AGES by MAGNA CARTA...!

Burke Shelley, the lead singer, bassist and main songwritter sadly died just over a year ago. He was a Christian gentleman, just like his parents. Budgie are probably best known for the fact that Metallica have covered two of their biggest songs, Beadfan and Crash Course in Brain Surgery. In an interview with a member of Budgie a few years back (I forget which member) he admitted that due to all the royalties he got from the Metallica covers, he'd managed to buy a large farm, not far from where he was raised. Makes you wonder how rich members of Metallica must actually be.

The seagull sound is emulated by reversing the in and out cable on a wah pedal . I guess Tony Bourge get this trick from David Gilmour who did it first on Echo.

I remember they always had cool covers, in that opulent 70's manner. Not my thing at the time,I was too young to get it, I can't say that's changed on the evidence of this.

That was really pleasant to listen to! 😊👍 Another band I'd known by name forever but had no idea what they actually sound like 🙂 Before you guys paused the song and referred to the singer as "he", I'd totes thought it was a woman! 😅 Budgie also is the stage name of Siouxsie & the Banshees' drummer, I think 🙂

I never got the Rush comparison other than them being a 3 piece and Shelley having a slightly similar voice, IMO sonically the band didn't really sound the same, Rush were far more proggy and up-beat sounding, Budgie were heavier and more blues based, I've always considered them in the same lane as your Zeppelins, Sabbaths, Deep Purples. Love both bands though!

I saw them supporting Ozzy back in the early eighties. I have to say they sounded like a knock off Rush to me. Just another mention/request for The Stranglers and 'The Raven'. Cheers!
@philjones45 Жыл бұрын
Strangely though, Budgie were formed in 1967, a year ahead of Rush. And they don't have THAT much in common besides being a three piece and both singers having quite high pitched voices.

Saw them on the same tour with Ozzy in St Albans, and a couple of times before that. Rush, I only saw once at Wembley Arena in '81 I think? Love both bands, but other than them both being three piece units and the lead, singing in a higher pitch than most, they are different. They may both be rock bands but much of Budgie's music was hard blues influenced, whereas Rush was closer to progressive rock, mostly! Saw an interview with Burke shortly before he died where he said Budgie were hard blues or even rock but definitely not metal! BTW, Phil Jones is right, Budgie pre-date Rush.
@youreatoilet Жыл бұрын
@@philjones45 Exactly! Rush were far more proggy and less heavy in my opinion
