My friend loves this band, and I’ve loved every song I’ve heard from them…now I just need to remember to put them on more often - at work, in the car, when I’m cooking, sleeping, everywhere!

That's what differentiates them from other bands from the same era. They were just a couple of normal guys who wanted to make great, timeless music. Never sold their souls, never turned into disrespectful heroin addicted junkies, nor wrote idiotic, self-righteous lyrics for pseudo-woke people. It is so much easier to relate to an artist when you know that they really are not that different from you. I've always loved that about Budgie. Be sure to check out more of their stuff. Also RIP Burke Shelley. 3 days ago was the second anniversary of his passing.

Bourge guitar work and Burke melodic voice is the greatness of this song. This band got so many gems. Other great tracks from Budgie: Stranded, In for the Kill, I Ain't No Mountain, Break All the House Rules and Hot As a Docker's Armpit. Please, react more Budgie songs!

...bly me - didn't yet discover that band... this was better than I expected ...whatever that was - I just wasn't prepared for such a brilliant piece of ProgRock; thanks Justin - I learned something new today! 😎 PS. Art work must be a Roger Dean job 👍

Their first four albums by Budgie were gold. Tony Bourge might be the most underrated guitar player ever. Some of his work is stunning. Hot as a Dockers Armpit, Young is a World and Stranded from the album Squawk are great examples of Tony’s work.

Burke wrote this when he was 15. classic. Tony may have done seagull scratching on the strings but they are from Tiger Bay. many seagulls congregated there.

One of my favourites from a much overlooked band. They could be both heavy and subtle. For some of their heaviest riffs try In For The Kill.

That was genuinely great. Maybe it was trying to follow Deep Purple's "Sweet Child in Time" but it took that somewhere fresh and melodic.

Top Stuff. Far from Perfect though. Great Reaction. Burke's singing is awesome on this, channelling fellow Tiger Bay-ian Shirley Bassey, shirley?! "Breaking All The House Rules" is better however! But Who Do You Want For Your Love? is Better than that! What's That Hippo? Zoom Club beats all of these?! Only to be eclipsed by "I Can't See My Feelings" surely this is too much hyperbole? Slipaway.... too...Oh stop it Ambassador you'r Spoiling us Doh Megadeth just rang U gotta do "Melt The Ice Away" JP Baby! Please Don't Go Smile Boy Smile! Diolch !thanks for smilin , made my day!

I always get this band confused with Badger, probably because of the names, but also because both sported Roger Dean album covers in the early 70's. This is a bit repetitive for my tastes, although there was a fair amount of this kind of thing floating around at the time. A band could almost eek out an entire live set with a single song like this. Most of the audience would be stoned anyways, so as long as you kept up the groovy, hazy vibe you were fine.

Hi JP. DP from UK. Really enjoyed this track, and you're so right about the guitar. And Burke Shelley's voice is unusual - fairly gender neutral and bizarrely he reminds me at times of a fellow Welsh singer Shirley Bassey (and that's a real complement) - Something In The Way he sings, haha. As for why the band weren't more successful, I think Jabber is spot-on - they were eclipsed by so many classic hard rockers like Led Zep, Purple, Sabbath, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep. Maybe if they launched in the early 80s as part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal ... Who knows.

I vote for this as the best review/ analysis/ critique of the song. Start here, and you'll know what to be listening for to add to it next time. One more thing, though. From what I recall (read that video's comments for a better exposition) the seagull part is the metaphor of the nestlings leaving the nest - with excitement, and with trepidation, and maybe sometimes both at the time, and meltdown. So the one more thing as far as listening goes, is to expect the guitar-birds to come flying by overhead before you reach the rocks they nest on. It's not just the same-old panning from this ear to that; these are flight trajectories you can imagine you're hearing in 3-space. (Something to look forward to next time if they just "panned" for you this time.) It's one of those songs that could easily have been so much less, but as you say, Tony elevates it above saminess into something musically interesting, as well as unique (or near unique - since I suppose birds in songs are an old idea. Great execution, though.)

Nice tune, mellow, timeless, and with some great guitar work. That said, for me, flawed slightly by Budgie's propensity to elongate songs. At 10 mins, way over length due the lack of variety in the peace. Easily could've been cut to 5 and left it there.
